General health

How many fillings do you have and how old are you?

I was talking to someone today about dental health and that my children's teeth are a big concern of mine after being drilled many times as a child myself.

I am convinced that lots of people around my age (38) have lots of fillings because of an over-zealous filling policy dentists seemed to have in the 70's and 80's. So, please humour me and tell me your age and the number of fillings you have.

It's not scientific, I'm just wondering!

Cheesy grin for you!

47 and 6 (I think), had them all by the age of 16. I've had some replaced over the years but no new ones in adulthood.

I'm 35 and I must have over 20! I had 4 by the time I was 7. I had fillings for years and years. I now only have 25 of my 32 teeth due to extractions. I'm due to have a filling soon but I don't think I've had one for a few years. I agree with your theory!

29 and none. Although DP makes up for that by having 99% fillings Hmm

  1. One filling. The other was filled but after falling out every time it turned into an extraction

37 - loads. Almost every tooth apart from the front top and bottom. Also have four missing/broken teeth at the back/bottom.

One was pulled the other 3 lost when pregnant. Pregnant with dc4 so might lose another yet Shock

Terrified of the dentist now due to some work gone wrong about 15 yes ago and have never ever been back.

Interesting theory! I'm 38 & have about 15 fillings. One's a root canal with porcelain crown. Had a lot of work done as a child. I remember being four years old, sitting in a giant leather chair, holding a kidney dish under my chin & watching it fill up with blood. I'd had 4 abscess teeth removed. The dentist gave me a chocolate wafer bar for being a good girl.
My early experiences mean that I've never been afraid of the dentist. I go every six months & there's always something. I take after Dad, who had false teeth by the time he was twenty. I'm very conscious that I'll have to look after my teeth as I get older as they feel knackered now. Giving up sugar is the answer...
Other than that my teeth are nice looking & I've never had any orthodontistry done. Would like to get them lightened a shade but I'm afraid of doing anything like that. I get them polished regularly though.

Bear in mind the OP is now 46/47 as this thread is 8 years old! Perhaps she has dentures now...

Me 36 - none. DB 38 - none. I do think it's down to genes though, my mum's family have trouble with their teeth, my dad's family have really strong teeth. Negative side, they discolour really easily.

I’m 55 and have 16 fillings, my dentist refers to my teeth as post ration pre fluoride. My parents rewarded us with the sweet treats they couldn’t have because they were children during the time of rationing, also during the 1960s and 1970s fluoride was not added to the water supply or toothpaste, I remember a lot of controversy during the 1970s when the government of the day were considering adding fluoride to people’s water supply.
I have 3 children 2 are grown up and 1 is 14 years old, none of them have fillings. I also have a mother who is 82 and she has better teeth than me, most likely due to rationing of sugar and sweets during the 1940s and 50s.

Late 40’s and have 6. Many of them really big. All from childhood butcher dentist.
Have had no new fillings since I was 14 but the teeth he butchered treated are now seriously weakened Angry

None. I'm 38.
I think it's genetics, I don't do anything special just brush them twice a day.

45 and had my first filling last year. That said, it probably wasn’t necessary but the dentist here (I live in the USA) knew that I hadn’t used up my employer’s dental allowance for the year so it wouldn’t cost me much. It was an insurance fiddle, I’m sure.

I'm forty and all my back teeth have fillings and one at the front. I'm Scottish and tooth care really wasn't a thing in my family. My children are teenagers and have none so I've done better with them but to be honest it really makes no difference to my life.
