Hi
For the last few periods I have been having labour like pains when I try to poo. It's only for the first couple of days but it's awful. I'm scared. I'm really heavy those days and if I need a poo it pushes to want to come but my body stops it for the pain. I've been sat on the loo for half an hour and can't go as it's painful but as soon as I get back into bed it starts moving again. I have mentioned it to my doctors, one made a comment of "I don't know why that is happening unless you have endometriosis" and the other said it's perfectly understandable as I have an inflammatory arthritis. She gave me some mebeverine as my bowels cause me gip too. Am due to have a colonoscopy.
It's Christmas Eve and I don't want to spoil it for the kids or end up at the docs, I really wanted it to be their day. I'm so upset, if anyone can help u would be grateful.
Xx

I have a weird swallowing disorder and when I have food stuck they give me something called buscopan which is a muscle relaxant. They give it to me in a cannula but it's available OTC in tablet form, I believe for IBS. Maybe the pharmacist would be able to suggest something?

Galvanized · 24/12/2014 07:38

It's early enough for you to phone for gp appt today! Do it, get painkillers. When I used to have heavy painful periods (including "contractions"!) I was prescribed mefanamic acid, a life changer.

SunnaClausIsComingToTown · 24/12/2014 07:39

Sounds like IBS. Mine was much worse at period time.

Inthedarkaboutfashion · 24/12/2014 07:40

I get it sometimes. A dose of dulcolax sorts it out very quickly. I'm not even sure it is actual constipation but anything to get it out and stop me trying to push it out every hour is worth it.

mandmsmummy · 24/12/2014 07:45

Thanks all for replying so quickly. Love my Mumsnet friends xx

I've heard about buscupan so I might nip to the pharmacy.
I'm reluctant to get a docs apot, I went yesterday and promised the kids it's their day today. Im there a lot with my arthritis so really don't want to go. After the first couple of days it settles down, it's just the first two days.

Meant to say, I'm been convinced for ages I have IBS so could it be that? Would it affect my periods? X

I have that during periods and was coming on to say buscopan- good luck Flowers

PrintScreen · 24/12/2014 07:51

I get the same. It's like everything is do inflamed inside that it's agony to poo. I have been scanned but no sign of cause. It's awful. Constipation def makes it worse so I take mild laxatives on the days leading up to my period. I also take lots of Inuprofen as it helps much more than paracetamol. Tampons make it much worse too so I use pads now.

I hope you feel better soon.

mandmsmummy · 24/12/2014 07:56

Thanks all. I suppose if it wasn't christmas I would t be so panicked.
I will get some buscupan, can I ask is it ok to still have a drinkie? It is christmas after all! X

I used to get that and its agony, but it seems to have stopped since I started taking tranexamic and mefanemic acid.

ToAvoidConversation · 24/12/2014 08:35

For over the counter stuff...

Buscopan
Ibuprofen lysine (femimax or generic brand)

Try a really hot bath too.

mandmsmummy · 24/12/2014 09:42

Thanks all, sorry for info but I've managed a poo so a bit less uncomfortable now. Will get some buscupan. Thanks xx

I have that too, went to the chemist and spoke to a pharmacist who recommended I try combined Paracetamol & codeine tablets and they're fab, they've really helped me and only cost about £2 over the counter. You can't take them for more than 3 days in a row but they really take the edge off it. I'm in the exact same situation to you right now so I know how you feel!

mandmsmummy · 24/12/2014 12:38

Feel for you Twiglet! X

It could also well be a case of endometriosis.
I would try a hie water bottle on the abdomen to try and calm the pain down.
I also found that some positions when I'm say in the loo help. I end up bent on a weird angle but the pain is better.

TheFriar · 24/12/2014 13:01

And yes I have that too and had it for years now.
Pain us only during my very short periods thanks fully.

Problem with codine based meds is that it can make you constipated. So be wary of that.

hulahoopsilove · 24/12/2014 13:39

i have endometriosis and the pain comes around my period...when I went to see my Dr i said in fact the pain sometimes is like labour pains in fact worse sometimes. She referred me to a gyno that specialises in endometriosis - I cant stress to you how important that is..got scanned and had treatment still get pain every other month but during the scan they also found a small cyst on my ovary that can cause pain during periods.

Dont dismiss go get referred many, many drs pass it off as IBS insist on seeing someone that specialises in endo

Sid77 · 24/12/2014 13:50

I used to get constipated around my period time, and then had horrendous period pains combined with poo pains while the constipation, ahem, worked itself out. I had fibroids and read on Dr Google that they can swell and put pressure on the bowel causing constipation. I put it down to that. Luckily for me, since having 2 children I don't seem to suffer anymore but Feminax ultra and fibrogel when my period was due helped me

mandmsmummy · 24/12/2014 15:44

I've been told in the past I have a 'fibrous' wall. Could it be that?
Is endometriosis bad? Bit scared xx

mandmsmummy · 24/12/2014 15:45

Can you see endo with a scan? X

Does endo cause pain while pooing just on your period or other times?
Just been, it hurt. Period is always really heavy first two days then all fine. Could it just be hormones? I can't see a gp until Monday, do you think that will be ok? X
