Hi
For the last few periods I have been having labour like pains when I try to poo. It's only for the first couple of days but it's awful. I'm scared. I'm really heavy those days and if I need a poo it pushes to want to come but my body stops it for the pain. I've been sat on the loo for half an hour and can't go as it's painful but as soon as I get back into bed it starts moving again. I have mentioned it to my doctors, one made a comment of "I don't know why that is happening unless you have endometriosis" and the other said it's perfectly understandable as I have an inflammatory arthritis. She gave me some mebeverine as my bowels cause me gip too. Am due to have a colonoscopy.
It's Christmas Eve and I don't want to spoil it for the kids or end up at the docs, I really wanted it to be their day. I'm so upset, if anyone can help u would be grateful.
Xx

Hormones relating to your period can have a huge affect of either making you constipated or having the runs. If it is making you constipated then def take laxatives on the lead up to your period.

It does sound like you need endo. ruling in and out though too.

I've done both today, normal poo and soft upset. Feeling really fed up. Hope it's not endo x

Sorry to say this describes me to a T and I have endo (lasered away via laparoscopy) and IBS. Think you need to see your GP - mine all resolved since laparoscopy and IBS has really settled down

GothMummy · 24/12/2014 22:34

I suspect that I have endo too, but so far have only had scans that showed "fibrotic tissue" and "minor abnormalities" but apparently they are nothing to worry about. Ho hum.
The fact that I bleed so heavily for up to 10 days and got severely aenemic also makes me suspect it.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 25/12/2014 13:17

You need a referral to a gynae, preferably one who has a specialist interest in endometriosis and do not take no for an answer.

what you are describing reads like endometriosis to me and it can and does affect the bowels too. in fact many women who are told they have IBS likely have endometriosis instead.

I doubt very much this is or has anything to do with arthiritis and would think a colonoscopy would not show anything either because. it's a laparoscopy that is needed here.

Ok thanks all, it was only the first day of my period this time. X

I get this too so i'm watching the thread with interest. I thought i was going to pass out with the pain once it was so bad. Like you it's just during the heaviest days of my period.

mandmsmummy · 27/12/2014 23:17

Hi purple!
Weird isn't it? Everything points to endo but I don't have other symptoms.
X

Very weird. I'm pregnant at the moment so haven't suffered it for a while but I'm dreading the pain coming back. It's so hard to describe too. It's not due to constipation in my case; it feels like something inside is ripping as it makes its way down. It's horrible.

I think endo came up when I googled it a while ago. Weird that it's only during the first couple of days of a period though.

Glycerin suppositories are great for when you know it's there but can't face pushing. Less than £2 at sainsburys and once you pop one in works in 10mins.

mandmsmummy · 30/12/2014 22:12

I wonder if it's a hormonal thing too.

Glycerine suppositories? For constipation? I can go it's just so painful x

Yes, discovered them after the birth of my DD. Definitely worth a go.

judydoes · 30/12/2014 22:34

I get this too. It's horrible, I agree.

I think mine's IBS. I've always just thought it was normal, horrid but I know from googling It's quite common.

mandmsmummy · 30/12/2014 23:13

I wonder about ibs too and I reckon the hormones make it so much worse x

As predicted, I've now had my baby, am bleeding postnatally and the pains have returned with a vengeance Sad
