ok franny isn't here so I've done it. Cos I'm like that

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Filly, you weren't really upset were you?

I know we are all sensitive types on here and insulting someone else's food is very rude, sorry. As usual I was trying to be funny...

Papillon, I am usually very hungry and in a rush at lunchtime so almost always have just a sandwich, a nice big thick one with either hummus, peanut butter or cream cheese. I like the idea of veg and dips etc, and we do often have that at the weekend when dp is here, but when it's just me and ds, things are usually a bit more rushed and hectic.

Plus, but I actually have to watch ds and limit his veg intake, as he would just eat fruit and veg all day and nothing else given a chance. Lunchtime is my big effort to get some carbohydrate and protein into him, so I only serve sandwiches for that reason as well.

Papillon · 09/10/2006 08:08

Hurah finally off to ostopath today! Although it did have to concide with my sisters arrival. Hopefully I will find her wandering around Bern later.

Filly Might need agatha later for the case of the missing sister.

Breakfast - Had sliced tomato on toast with black pepper. Have run out of Marmite And won´t have any till NZ in January.

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 09/10/2006 08:30

oh god, fran, no! God, I find Boris funny, am not really easily offended.

no, I just thought it was funny!

Just had RL to content with for a bit.

also I can't post on this thread unless its in active convos, cos I'm too crap to find it and it doesn't come up under convos i'm on for some reason.

(btw was scanning the HM threads yesterday and getting increasingly mystified-WTF is MSN? )

OP posts:
Papillon · 09/10/2006 08:36

MSN is microsoft messenger - a chat programme

Franny I sometimes have cream cheese with my sandwich, but it is quick and easy to throw in a lettuce leaf and cucumber etc.

In fact we of the Paps household often walk around eating raw cucumber like its ice blocks

FrannyandZooey · 09/10/2006 08:36

Papillon can we send you some Marmite? I mean I loathe the stuff so the less of it in this country the better IMO

Filly, phew, I did think you were finding it funny but have not forgotten upsetting people on here last time.

MSN is a messaging service which sits on the side of your screen - you can see who is online (amongst those people you have added from your friends) and send each other instant messages back and forth. I don't have it but I met dp on a similar sort of thing

Papillon · 09/10/2006 08:39

I need the Sanitarium Marmite and not that even sticky stuff found on the shelves in Britain (and that I could buy here but am not desparate tooo)

Is that available in UK - if it is we could do a swap and I could send you some of this - comes in Vanilla or Coconut...

cor this might be my last chance to MN for a whole week - I am trembling at the thought, will you all miss me terribly if I am absent

FrannyandZooey · 09/10/2006 08:50

I am sorry Paps, I thought you meant the ordinary stuff

I am missing you already; why are you abandoning us?

FrannyandZooey · 09/10/2006 08:52

Just remembered it is NQC's birthday, please post for her here

Papillon · 09/10/2006 09:15

Overrun · 09/10/2006 10:50

Hi, why havne't we started a new thread this week?
Off to a good start with apple, banana and museli for breakfast.

FrannyandZooey · 09/10/2006 12:09

Oops sorry re the new thread

oh let's keep this one for a bit longer, shall we? It's not that long this time

Overrun · 09/10/2006 12:13

No problemo.
having a really lazy day, not doing much, kids playing happily and me on the computer, not how I envisaged motherhood. Still normally we would be out and about in the morning, no harm in a home day

tracyk · 09/10/2006 12:16

Hi girls - had a lovely weekend in St Andrews - v.posh hotel. Saw Matthew Pincent - yum yum! Just missed Ronan Keating and Jonathon Edwards damn!

I shall forget all my food of the weekend - but I did do 45 mins in the gym and a sauna.

Did 10 mins on cross trainer this morning and some sit ups. Had my granola and chopped apple for b/fast. Have goats cheese and salad brown sarnies for lunch.

Will try the delish carrot cake recipe - thanks Tatties.

btw - a bowl of granola and fruit really does keep me not hungry for a good 3 or 4 hours! Wonderful stuff.

Overrun · 09/10/2006 19:54

sounds nice traceyk, hey where is every one? Its like a ghost town on here today, unless you want to talk about what went down last night
i want to talk about the fact that I had savoy cabbage for tea (with bacon), butter beans with garlic, onion, celery and tomato. Steamed courgettes and then poached pear for afters yum yum

Tatties · 09/10/2006 20:23

Good evening, just back from my hour of pilates - I feel very stretched! My thighs are still aching from Saturday though; I spent much of the day trying out a mei-hip carrier for 18mth old ds. I thought it was going to be tough on my shoulders and back, but actually no, it was my thighs getting the workout.

Made a nice parsnip, carrot, sweet potato and yellow split pea soup yesterday and had have just had the leftovers for dinner. Have been nibbling on cashews, dried apricots and had a cream cheese, celery and apple sandwich for lunch, and I've had a glass of fruit juice. Oh and I shared a kiwi with ds, but I think he got more of it than me

Tracyk glad you had a lovely weekend! I must try granola - I have a big problem about getting hungry again very soon after breakfast. I am loving my porridge atm, and it does a better job than any other cereal, but I would be amazed if something could keep me going for 3 hours or more!

Oh, sorry aviatrix, I didn't fancy that particular one tonight. Maybe another time...

(and I can't agree with your last sentence at all)

Everyone's food sounds wonderful and I did manage 4 portions of veg as well as my fruit. Will try to increase that for tomorrow.

beegee · 09/10/2006 22:26

Tatties - i had an hour of pilates too tonight OOOoohhh it feels soooo good.

Yesterday I did a yoga class followed by an hours 'body jam' - reaalllly good too!

Had some asparagas with supper tonight - hadn't had it for ages - it tastes so yummy with lemon squeezed over it. Makes your wee smell, though

FrannyandZooey · 10/10/2006 08:32

So tell me about this pilates hoohah then, please. What do you actually do and why do I have to pay silly amounts to go on an induction course before I am allowed to go to a class?

tracyk · 10/10/2006 10:05

Tatties - granola keeps me feeling less hungry for longer than porridge. I don't feel full for ages - but on the other hand I don't feel hungry either iykwim. I've been trying to do my Paul McKenna and ask myself if I am ACTUALLY hungry before eating anything.
10 minutes on the cross trainer again this morning and some situps.
Is anyone losing weight on this diet - or is more about being healthy and more energy.

Tatties · 10/10/2006 11:59

Franny, pilates is lots of stretching, focussing on breathing and strengthening your abdominal muscles. You are mainly lying down, lifting your legs and stuff. You don't get out of breath doing it, but it can be tough! Supposed to be relaxing too, but I find that as a beginner I am still quite tense, worrying about whether I am doing it right... My local sports centre does an hour's class for £3.60, didn't have to do an induction as you just take each exercise to a level you are comfortable with. I like it because it concentrates on your tummy (mine could do with some work...) and it is one of the rare chances I get during the week to get away from it all.

Beegee, I wish my sports centre did yoga too (Well they do have a class but it's for over 50s! ) I have seen the odd independent class advertised but they always clash with ds's bedtime (which I am an integral part of atm...)

Tracyk, I am not trying to lose weight on this, for me it's about trying to make more of an effort to get more f&v in, trying to eat healthier snacks during the day instead of biscuits, and making time for exercise in order to feel energised. If I end up looking any better it'll be a bonus

FrannyandZooey · 10/10/2006 12:03

Tracy I have put on weight.

I am smugly presuming it is muscle. Don't disillusion me please folks.

Hmmm @ Pilates. Hmmm. I would really like to try a class but here you have to go to this 6 week intro course and I would have to pay for it on top of my gym membership. I get all other classes and use of the gym for free, but not that one.
