ok franny isn't here so I've done it. Cos I'm like that

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here

Filly you star Thanks for keeping the thread going

Welcome all newcomers and hope you can find the thread inspiring - don't worry if you are not achieving the goals at first (or at all) - we are all just trying our best on here and using the thread as a fun way to remind ourselves what we want to achieve.

Am slightly bothered we seem to have lost so many people from previous threads - I do hope you are all ok and will join us again one day perhaps?

I have been away from home so quite hard to keep up my 10 / 10 but did fairly well on the veg front - dinner at NQC's was particularly fab and I am sure my 2 portions bread and butter pudding counted for something. It had cranberries and stuff in. We ate here today and I had a superfood summer salad, hummus, some fruit salad and some cole slaw (which I didn't like, it was all weird and minty). I am currently recovering from the stresses of the journey home with a packet of white chocolate covered strawberries

Did less well on the exercise front but will fret about that tomorrow I think.

Pann · 03/10/2006 22:35

Extended sesh at gym at 6.45am ( and was I!).

Veggie curry (homemade - so packed with dead veg.) - various fruity nibbles in the day - and a courgette/spaghetti at dinner.

We do appear to be smut free at mo. - is this an edict I have missed, or is pap just being ever so restrained??

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 03/10/2006 22:55

franny

that is an obscenly poncy restraunt

was it nice?

OP posts:
FrankenZooey · 04/10/2006 07:43

Filly, it really wasn't poncy, and it was very nice indeed (except for the aforementioned mint fetish that the chef seemed determined to indulge)

Pann there is only so much fruit and vegetable related smut the mind can take, I think

maybe if we move on to grains or perhaps condiments?

MadameMorticiaMills · 04/10/2006 07:49

Yesterday - 40 minute brisk walking

stewed fruit
pear, apple
2 plums,
plate of salad vegetables
pomegranate (slightly more gratifying than yesterday)
squeezed orange juice
green beans, peas,
chopped up courgettte, spring onion and red pepper in my bulgar wheat
banana

Over and above I think

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 04/10/2006 07:55

i have head of them

an not so secretly

That does look fab, and reasonably priced too.
Am still coming to grip with the Swedes love of full fat dairy products.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/10/2006 08:06

Leon really is a lovely restaurant, it's one of my favourite places to eat out - tasty and lovely, and no need to have white carb, so I don't feel all slow afterwards.

There was a reasonable amount of veg at Sofra, too.

I am doing ok, but biking far too much (95 minutes/day minimum, Monday - Wed this week). Probably getting enough veg, too, made a giant stir fry yesterday (onion, brocolli, mushroom, beetroot, carrot, some bean thing, aubergine) and ate loads. And had apple and plum crumble for dessert.

Oh, Franny, there was dried fruit in the bread and butter pudding, so it counted a bit at least.

Those dried mangoes with white choc didn't last very long, either so I must be doing ok.

tracyk · 04/10/2006 09:54

I had a lovely stir fry last night with courgettes, yellow peppers, mushrooms and noodles. Have decided to try and cut down on dairy too. Bought some feta cheese and goats milk to try.
Trashed all my effort with 5 bits of shortbread and a packet of Walkers crisps before bed!
Am also trying to have my 8 glasses of water a day.
Tae bo tonight so a good hours sweat to be had! No exercise yesterday tho!

Tatties · 04/10/2006 11:42

Hello, not signed in for a while. The veg box has been a success; I have found that because you know exactly how much you've paid for it, you absolutely don't want to waste anything, and I have managed to get loads of things made: veggie bake, soup, pasta sauce and carrot cake New one arrived today and I am ashamed to say there is something in there and I don't know what it is

Ds and I have blimmin' colds again though Well I have a bunged up nose and he has a runny one! Dp so far touch wood has managed to escape. We need to up vit C! This morning I have had some apple juice, a kiwi, some dates and some grapes. Dinner will be some left over veggie pasta sauce. And it's a lovely sunny day so I think we'll have a brisk walk into town to get some fresh air.

DeadCocoPapscanScream · 04/10/2006 13:31

Tatties describe this unknown vegetable to us and we will figure it out!

First prize is HERE

Busy today, dh birthday and have small tribe coming for dinner, including a cousin have not seen for about 7 years!!! YAH. We are having Som Tom as entree and Spring Rolls with noodles and salad (with mint - but its divine in this) and hoison sauce.

Huge chocolate cake in the oven.

Had very healthy pumpkin and vegetable soup for lunch. Am really getting into the pumpkin atm and bought lots of different types recently to experiment with.

Exercise today is all the nervous energy of running playgroup this morning and baking this afternoon.

How did the goats milk go TraceK ??? Not my favourite things from the goat - smelly!!!

MoonFrog · 04/10/2006 14:27

I love goats milk and cheese, and the yoghurt is to die for

Not doing too bad today
a grapefruit w/ nat yoghurt and seeds
an apple
more home made veggie soup (bacon, tin of tomatoes, onion, leeks, turnip, celery, flageolet beans, courgette, cauliflower w/ sun dried tomato pesto and large splash of chilli sauce)
Kiwi fruit

For supper I'm planning Pork fillet cooked with garlic and rosemary w/loads of broccoli, courgette, leeks and sweet potato. Yum (licking lips emoticon)

No "official" excercise yet, other than the normal rushing around, so looks like it'll be The Archers Workout(tm) again

Tatties · 04/10/2006 21:47

Ok DeadCoco, by looking at the long list of possible contents of my veg box, I have narrowed it down to a few... but I think it will be more fun to describe it and see if anyone guesses

It is pale green, very similar to a leek in texture but fatter. That's about it really...

Also I have something in there which looks like a lettuce, but more pointed. Any ideas?

God I sound thick don't I. I'm not really, honest

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 04/10/2006 21:49

fennel?

is there a bulb at the end?

OP posts:
FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 04/10/2006 21:51

pointed thing-it could be a weird lettuce

or a loose leaf cabbage (chinese leaf?)

OP posts:
FrankenZooey · 04/10/2006 22:15

Paps is that you hiding under that bizarre and sinister name?

I am not sure I like it at all. And I don't get it, either

TooTickyTheAppleMuncher · 04/10/2006 22:33

The pointy thing sounds likea hispi cabbage.

cowmod · 04/10/2006 22:34

go and have aburger and some fat

Tatties · 04/10/2006 22:34

Hmmm, fennel is what I feared. But it doesn't really have a bulb at the end. Well it's rounded but not a pronounced bulb. Is fennel aniseedy?

lol at weird lettuce!

Tatties · 04/10/2006 22:36
