ovulation pain - anyone else get it?

how common is this?

I've only been aware of it during the past few months - but since then it has been really bad. Like an awful period pain. Lasts for aboout half a day on and off.

anyone else?

me too! lasts about a day or so and feels like period pain.Who would choose to be a woman

kiskidee · 24/09/2006 21:45

me too. have had a good 15 yrs now. i could even rely on it as a form of contraception iykwim

Kiwiem · 24/09/2006 22:17

Like clockwork middle of every month - only just got periods back after baby arriving in Feb this year, and had forgotten how painful it can be! Useful re contraception, though.

Tillyboo · 24/09/2006 22:34

I had these for several yrs before I had dd. Like clockwork each month and much, much worse than period pains. Way more deep and intense. My mum told me that my body was trying to tell me that ' I needed a baby' - I was 38 when she told me this. Sure enough they did go away after I had my dd but now my dd is 2.5 yrs they have started to come back again. I get sort of spasms that peak into really intense pain ( bit like IBS spasms). They build up and up and then fade after about 5 mins.
If I have a wee this seems to kickstart the spasms. Very miserable.
So if anyone has any suggesions to ease the pain I'd be very grateful .
It'll be the bloody (peri) menopause next ......

Quootiepie · 24/09/2006 22:35

yes...even went for a laparoscopy! Presume its ovulation pain anyway...

Heartmum2Jamie · 24/09/2006 22:52

Yep! Some months are fine, other months are agony, it is sooo much worse than period pain and can last anything from an hour or 2 to a day and a half

Tillyboo · 24/09/2006 22:58

Yep, I get it for about 3 days before the pain and spasms totally disappear. It really is a horrible pain isn't it.

biglips · 24/09/2006 23:00

i had it Friday just gone and couldnt sit down or laugh cos the stabbing pain i had that runs thru my tubes!! . it went the next day

Olihan · 24/09/2006 23:00

I do, but mine is more of a stabbing pain on one side, low down in front of my hip bone. Lasts for maybe 5 - 6 hours then goes. I'm 99% sure that's what it is because we conceived dc3 on the day I had the pain and hadn't BD'd at any other time that cycle.

theheadgirl · 24/09/2006 23:03

I get it too, a dull ache that last a few days. It even has a "proper" name i understand - mittelschmirz in other words 'middle pain'

biglips · 24/09/2006 23:04

dont know whether caused cos im on the mirena coil or cos ive had a emergency c-section? as ive never had it before i got pg as i just had my usual dull pain but now i get both

naswm · 25/09/2006 10:10

lots of posts - glad I am not alone! Cant belive it has a name....

tribpot · 25/09/2006 10:25

I used to get it, haven't had it so much since I had ds. Was the key to my success in conceiving in the first month - ah, crippling pain in side, let's get it on

Mine was more like a stabbing pain, less like a period pain though. Joy.

multitasker · 25/09/2006 10:31

If you make a note of it you will see that it goes from left to right by month, thats how I know that its ovulation not anything else.

naswm · 25/09/2006 17:50

Does it REALLY work like that multitasker?!?

OP posts:
multitasker · 25/09/2006 18:36

It does for me - maybe I'm a bit different.....

fullmoonfiend · 25/09/2006 18:40

Somebody remind me in a month's time that at the moment it's my right side...!
Never noticed if it changed sides but I have to find out now

naswm · 25/09/2006 19:39

ok, and someone remind me in a month that it was left ish (lol) for me!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Kiwiem · 25/09/2006 19:42

Not for me - only ever my right side!

tribpot · 25/09/2006 19:43

I think I only got it on my right side as well. Freakish!

Kiwiem · 25/09/2006 19:45

Maybe we've only got one that works!

tribpot · 25/09/2006 19:48

One between us or one each?!

Kiwiem · 25/09/2006 19:49

God, one each I hope - that really is too weird

cupcakes · 25/09/2006 19:52

I've had this evr since having ds. Sometimes the pain is incredible - like a knife twisting in my abdomen - and at other times it is just a dull ache.
Useful when trying to conceive though.
It's called Mittelschmerz Syndrome (I even saw a gp about it).

cupcakes · 25/09/2006 19:52

and mine was on the right and felt worse every other month (I always thought that maybe the good months were on the left).
