how common is this?

I've only been aware of it during the past few months - but since then it has been really bad. Like an awful period pain. Lasts for aboout half a day on and off.

anyone else?

Yes, I get it but not every month for some reason. I don't find it goes from one side to the other. Sometimes I ovulate but don't get the pain (I know cos I conceived ds2 on a month when I didn't get the pain). Very painful, lasts about 1/2 day. I usually take paracetamol or ibuprofen which dulls it a bit.

Yep I get it every month it's called mittelschmerz pain! I have just had the mirena coil fitted so I don't know if this will alter anything, will have to wait and find out. Can be quite sore!

naswm · 25/09/2006 20:02

well what a lot of us there are!

Reading these posts has reminded me that I didnt get this pain until after I had my dc. and after each it has got worse. What is the connection then??? And will it ease up or get worse as we approach the menopause (my GP thinks I am possibly peri-menopausal - but I dont see how if i am ovulating regularly...)

ooops cupcakes sorry I didn't see your post! Nothing like an echo!!

tribpot · 25/09/2006 20:06

naswm, I thought mine was better since ds cos the ovaries had been shoved up practically into my throat and had settled into a less painful position on the way back down? I can't see what menopause has got to do with it.

naswm · 25/09/2006 20:09

lol tribpot!!!!!! not seen you on msn for a while btw - all ok with you??

yup, get this every month...
sometimes it is just like someone stabbing me, othe rtimes it is dull period pain and lower back ache...

gosh, in my next life i am coming back as a man - gotta be less painful...

tribpot · 25/09/2006 20:22

Not only less painful, but every time you so much as have a papercut you can take to your bed for five days and be looked after

(Grossly unfair, not only to most men but particularly to my dh who lives in chronic pain and just gets the hell on with it. But funny anyway).

peegeeweegeewoo · 25/09/2006 20:33

sorry tribpot, didn't know about your dh

but from a period pain / ovulation pain / birth pain point of view, it has got to be easier being a man....

tribpot · 25/09/2006 20:40

I agree - my dh is the exception, most men seem far less able to cope with pain than him! (Obv does not help me when I want sympathy for period pain!)
