Fear of being sick - emetophobia

I have read with great interest the number of messages on this site concerning fear of being sick (emetophobia). I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist based in London and treat many ladies suffering from this unpleasant phobia. Emetophobia is the fifth most common phobia but it is rarely highlighted in the media because it is (according to an editor I spoke to recently) too yucky to read about in a newspaper!
This is an extremely complex phobia that can lead to a number of other issues such as fear of pregnancy, fear of flying, claustrophobia, social phobia, fear of eating out, fear of travelling, fear of illness and in extreme cases sufferers are fearful of leaving their own homes.
Using Regression Hypnotherapy, the subconsciously hidden root cause of the issue can be located and subsequently fixed.

Er yes just a tad, but I have to trust DH and honestly I do, IMO its upto 5 days but hopefully as you only have one child it cuts down your chance of contracting it!

She will be back to her old self by Friday BB (or is it you you are thinking of?)

If you feel the slightest bit unwell, can't you simply postpone your visit? Your parents will understand. They won't want you anywhere near them I should think if you are harbouring a bug!

Oh, not so easy to cancel then. But I don't think it will be a problem. Dd will definitely be fine by then (kids bounce back quickly) and you are not going to get anything definitely!!!

If your dd has ben snotty for some days, her immunity to all bugs will have been lowered. Think along those lines, and keep telling yourself that your immunity is in excellent condition - it must be for you not to have been sick for more than 30 years.

pinkchampagne · 14/02/2007 21:39

Keep up the handwashing & have a bottle of pepto bismol nearby just incase! It's vile, but it's great stuff!

pinkchampagne · 14/02/2007 21:40

I slept with a bottle of the stuff on my bedside table for around a week following my DS's last bug, just incase!!

pinkbubble · 14/02/2007 21:41

Honestly and I mean honestly if DD has got a bug she will be over it by fri, that is how I would look at it and if you get it on the train then you know you can deal with it- honestly this actually happened to me not on a train but an aeroplane! (I started being ill at 2.30 in the morning and had to fly home from Spain with 3DDs, with me throwing up- luckily the flight was late so by the time I actually got on the aeroplane I had stopped being sick but I was so worried about DDs being sick if they asked for something to eat I gave it to them my thinking in this was they normally stop eating if they are going to be ill!) As soon as I saw DH at Stansted I practically threw dC at him and closed my eyes and ignored everyone else!

Remember you are an adult so hopefully if your'e feeling ill you can manage to get it in a bag or the toilet- just make sure you take some with you- but look on the other side ther is s good chance you wont get it!honest how is your little lady now?

pinkchampagne · 14/02/2007 21:57

It's a vile thick pink medicine which is great for relieving the symptoms of D&V.
I always have some in the medicine cupboard, just incase it's needed!

sorry to be thick but never hear of it! Does it actually stop you from being sick or just relieve the bubbly tummy?

pinkchampagne · 14/02/2007 22:01

Relieves the feeling of nausea & stops the squits!

pinkbubble · 14/02/2007 22:02

TBH either you would panic ypurself into not being it or your body just takes over- mine just takes over!My motto is "better out than in!" and all my DC know that saying well.

twoisenoughmum · 14/02/2007 22:02

I always drink quite a lot of brandy if my two are ill with d &/or v. Never drink it otherwise. Prob. Old Wives Tale but someone said it kills the bugs in your stomach. At least it makes me feel like I'm doing something pro-active. It's the not knowing and not being able to do anything that's so awful.

I have a vomit-radar in my brain. I can overhear a playground conversation at 100m distance along the lines of "oh yes, darling Z*, was sick in the night a couple of nights ago, only just brought her back to school today". Even if this child is someone I've never clapped eyes on before, is not in the same class or even the same year as my child, then the heartrate starts to rise and I will think about it, oh, about 1,000 times during the course of the day.

Today, during half-term, I went out with 2 friends and their 4 dcs to a local museum. One of the Mums cheerfully announced that her youngest had been sick twice last night! It was all I could do not to make my excuses and go home again. And so, now of course, I will be expecting my 2 kids to get it and probably me as well and also my husband ... and what if he gets it at the same time as one of the kids and I end up having to look after them and ... on and on and on ...

Honestly, you are not alone BB. We are all thinking of you.
