I don't want to drink today. Anyone else?

Fed up. Drinking far too much on pretty much a nightly basis. Inspired by Dinny's thread last night I've decided to take a one day at a time approach to cutting right back/stopping. I'm posting this because I decide this pretty much every morning but usually give in later in the day - but if I've made some kind of public committment then I have a better chance of sticking at it.

If anyone else would like to join me in not drinking today, that would be lovely.

Hi..I think I should try tooo..I am feeling really crap co I have just started the atkins diet..only temporary so I can fit into my jeans ok again ..but have told DH that I am doing my version with a large red in the evening to help me through ..I cant believe I have got to this point of not even beeing able to go one night..

NOLASTAR · 14/09/2006 13:38

Weird thing is I thought it was me and my friends who were lushes..so reassuring to read this girls..who's been using the " well if we lived in France/Spain" excuse?!

moomooland · 14/09/2006 13:44

Go for it nolastar!

NOLASTAR · 14/09/2006 13:50

Thanks moomooland..I really am going to think just one day at a time..and maybe try and cook something that doesn't make me automatically reach for the wine..

Sanity · 14/09/2006 14:16

Good afternoon everyone...I would just like to say I made it through my third day without wine...or beer, (I used to think beer wasn't drinking!) I don't think I realised that I thought I had a problem with drink...in fact I have a habit/general rut problem.

Yes I admit I have shouted at DH last night, but that was his fault...should have rung to say he was on his way home....not stroll in at 9 and expect me to cook! I feel in much more control today....and that is the key, control.

Finances/kids/weight/drinking it all amounts to the same thing, get one in order and the rest will follow, I don't know I have been on Mumsnet for 24 hours and feel so much happier....

Am I preaching now, sorry...lack of adult company today, I had a chat to my 15month old twins about this this morning and the only solution they could come up with was a building block!

Berrie · 14/09/2006 15:06

Nolastar, i find baked beans on toast does the trick!

zippy539 · 14/09/2006 15:07

That's brilliant sanity. Well done. I laughed about beer not being drinking - that was my attitude exactly. Are you drinking tonight?

Sanity · 14/09/2006 15:11

What night is it....Thursday NO I WILL NOT DRINK TONIGHT - but hey, FRiday night is different altogether!!

expatinscotland · 14/09/2006 15:11

Haven't had a drink in ages. But have next Monday off and a works function Sunday night .

nolastar · 14/09/2006 15:19

OMG! Berrie I love beans on toast it would be my desert island dinner..but got a horrible feeling they are not atkins approved..i'm off to check their carbs..

Berrie · 14/09/2006 15:28

I'm fond of beans too but I don't sit there thinking, 'mmm what this needs is a lovely glass os chilled Sauvingnon Blanc.' Surely you don't?

Berrie · 14/09/2006 15:30

Sanity, I love the way that you make that declaration. I can't do it as it seems to tempt fate for me, I came so close last night, bought the vino and everything. It's still in the fridge now, I should take it out and shove it in the airing cupboard shouldn't I!

Berrie · 14/09/2006 15:33

Now I am a controlled supermum type person, I have been thinking ahead and preparing the kids food for tonight in advance. Turned the gas on under the wrong pan...the one with a plastic colander in it. Supermum's children now all breathing in noxious gases....Super mum breathing in noxious gases....in fact.....uurrrgghhhbleurrrrrgh (collapses on floor!)

nolastar · 14/09/2006 15:40

Its before I start eating thats the problem..you know chopping and stirring anything tomatoey or with garlic automatically has me reaching for the red..it makes me feel like I can cook!

Berrie · 14/09/2006 15:54

Yeah Nolastar, it's such a nice time to chat with DH too. Proper children free conversations before tv goes on and we begin to ignore each other.

nolastar · 14/09/2006 15:59

lol..ahhh and watching him snore ..now that does give me and the kids endless laughs..theres so many variations..

livelife · 14/09/2006 16:10

Read recently that you should start from presumption that you have absolutely zero willpower and so don't have any drink in the house at all, not a single bottle...sadly mr tesco is not helping me with this by clearing the booze aisle! Yep chopping n stirring onion, tomato, garlic...chit chat...red wine...is it too early to start cooking?!!

Sanity · 14/09/2006 16:11

I can be positive about my decleration, until now...I have picked up DD1&2 they are fighting hitting, pinching, crying, now I want to drink...by the time they finally go the bed I will be numb, thats when I reach for my first drink...my sigh of relief at the peace..then they come down and scream for a drink and I will bark GO TO BED the real me is emerging...

Berrie · 14/09/2006 16:47

Be strong Sanity! I'll speak to you later. By that time will have been to the inlaws for their shopping list then to the supermarket with kids. will feel like you too! We can do it!!! Do you think it's telling that I have not put the wine in the airing cupboard yet?

Sanity · 14/09/2006 16:52

Some nights it would not matter if the white were warm and the red cold..as long as it is 12 - 14.5%! Have fun with the inlaws berrie and thank you...

dinny · 14/09/2006 19:16

hi, all, really pissed off as just been to dentist and he grilled me about sugar/fizzy drink/alcohol intake as enamel not looking good. am shocked that fizzy water is bad for teeth - have got so much Badoit inm it's the one thing keeping me going!

am scared have f**d my teeth now and will get mouth cancer from all the wine I've drunk.

Berrie · 14/09/2006 20:07

Oh Dinny, sitting here sipping bloody fizzy water! What crap news! Take my bloody teeth now!

Berrie · 14/09/2006 20:09

Sanity, you still with us? 3rd night for me, Now I know what the buzz feels like it is perhaps a little easier...a little

dinny · 14/09/2006 20:32

so peeed off, Berrie! though did just speak to dh and he says most people he knows don't even go to the dentist and mine is too thorough! lol.

Sanity · 14/09/2006 20:36

Yes people I am still with you - only 6 minutes lef t on the pasta, so I will be gone in a minute....still no alcohol....water is bloody boring...especially without the fizz!!! what can we do nowadays...you see the more they tell us the worse our lives get!
