Molluscum bloody contagiosum

Ds2 has this on his neck, in the crooks of his elbows and back of knees. He picks at the little blisters, making them sore and bleed.

Is there really nothing I can do to make it better or go away? GP says there is nothing to be done.

Why has he got this?

My daughter had it, GP prescribed cream to reduce itching, it went away by itself eventually. GPs won't do anything for it, if you burn the things off you could end up scarring your child for something that would have eventually just gone away by itself. If memory serves making sure the child gets enough vitamins I.e. has strong immune system can help it go away faster.

It's a viral skin infection, there's nothing that can be done about it tbh. Some drs used to 'prick' the individual lesions to try and get an immune respone to trigger all of them disappearing, but it often does not work and risks infection/scarring so it't not really done any more.

They are horrible. The itch can be treated, as can infection, but the actual spots will have to resolve themselves.
Which took 2 years for DS2…. and all his brothers caught them off him. Ack.

We are about to invest in molludab because anything has to be better than DS picking CONSTANTLY at the bloody things on his torso. He is doing it again now. after 6 months of this, we are sick of the constant footling and bleeding from him scratching at them, and GP says nowt to be done.

Oh yes, I've heard of Molludab - it works just like wart paints in principle: it breaks down individual skin cells thereby allowing your body's immune system to 'notice' that there is a virus there and fight it. In theory treating a few lesions successfully should lead to them all melting away.
You'll have to be patient though and treat really every day.
I am also not sure how easily tolerated it is for kids with eczema who are at higher risk of catching MC.

yes, it's an alkaline treatment as opposed to acidic wart treatments though. not sure what difference that makes to the efficacy.

I think we need to try something though, because DS is really clawing at his all the time, and bursting them hasn't worked.

I have no idea why it's acids for warts and alkaline stuff for MC

All I know we treated DS2's verrucas (dozens of them - he seems to be prone to all this kind of stuff - I blame his eczema) religiously every night (DH became quite obsessed with them) for 18 bloody months. They did not budge. Then, suddenly, they all disappeared, virtually over night
Bastards.

I used homeopathic stuff and they were gone in 2 weeks. My GP said it could take 2 years for them to go. I thought forget that and did some research.

Even I was amazed at how fast they went and so was DD

What homeopathic stuff did you use Sweetdreemz? DS has had these things for over a year now and nothing else I've tried has had any effect whatsoever.

Both DDs had them, they were horrible and then one day they just disappeared. DD1 had them worst, hated us squeezing them (so stopped trying in the end), for the ones she let us near it did seem to get rid of them though.

we used an elderflower cordial drink and a sliver particle spray that I bought from an online herbal medicine shop. It went away within two weeks.

DS had this when he was about 6 yo. They lasted a good few months - then flared u really badly and vanished. The GP said there was nothing that could be done. He wasn't too bothered by them though.

I pricked and popped out all DD 's. They scabbed up a bit and then disappeared. It didn't hurt her at all.

The problem is that once you scratch, prick, make them bleed that is when they become most infectious and spread their viral load. My DD ended up having to have a GA because they had spread under her eyelids and were causing horrible eye problems, and it took a while and a lot of anti biotics before referral to an eye specialist identified the problem. They removed about 30 from her face. Doctors don't mess with them for a reason.

Doshussalie, please can you give me a link or anything - I would give anything to make these things go away in two weeks! Especially with summer coming up - the horrible wart things are all over my DS's legs. I'd hate for him to be self-conscious when wearing shorts. Thank you.

We used a homeopathic treatment from amoils.com and it cleared my daughter's mc completely with no scarring. We had to apply it every day. I went back with my daughter to show our GP as had been advised that nothing could be done to clear it without risk of scarring. He contacted me some months later as his son had developed it. It worked for him and he called me again a few weeks ago to ask as a patient had come in with a severe rash. I remember how miserable it was for my daughter - hope you find something that helps your son.

My son had this a long time ago; it didn't bother him but individual spots would flare up and then go. I took him to the GP who prescribed a homeopathic treatment and they disappeared very quickly. I'm sorry, as it was so long ago I have no idea what the treatment was, but a homeopathic specialist should be able to help.

On a lighter note, DS had these when he was about 8. One day at school (I work there too) his teacher came running in from the playground to tell me to stay calm but that DS had had quite a serious accident. She took me to the first aid room and whispered that he'd slipped on the rope bridge, caught his chest, and 'sliced off his nipple' . I walked in the room to see a fair bit of blood. I lifted up his t-shirt to discover he had burst his molluscum. The look of horror on his teachers face still makes me giggle .
