Molluscum bloody contagiosum

Ds2 has this on his neck, in the crooks of his elbows and back of knees. He picks at the little blisters, making them sore and bleed.

Is there really nothing I can do to make it better or go away? GP says there is nothing to be done.

Why has he got this?

There is plenty of good research around about molluscum. Research undertaken by Johns Hopkins University Baltimore showed that half of children who have molluscum have it one year minimum. Many have it for up to two years. Also once one child has it other members of the family are very likely to catch the molluscum virus.

All our three children got molluscum and we tried all sorts of ways of treating them (I hesitate to say "every way").

The most important I think to combat molluscum in order are:

• most importantly, getting on top of it quickly. We left our first children who caught molluscum for too long (on advice of doctors). Our other two we got on top of very quickly and limited the spread
• plus once caught, good hygiene is vital.

Things that worked for us:

apple cider vinegar
Mollenol - on OTC
clove oil - very harsh

OTCs that didnt work:

Conzerol - seemed to stunt growth
Zymaderm - not much impact
Derm Allay - worst of all.
