I've lost 5 stone since xmas, now about 9 stone -

But my lips and gums are so sore, is it a vitamin thing??

Have cut out total carbs and sugar, is it that?

Oops a, you are not well.

Your body will continue to break down further now because it's effectively starving to death.

Please please go to your GP as soon as you can.

oopsadaisyme · 19/04/2014 22:48

I have been eating recently, still carb free, was worried it was lack of carbs causing but lemon made sense -

What have you eaten today OP ?

ItsSpringBaby · 19/04/2014 22:51

Sorry to sound a bit blunt, but you need to eat well and try to lose weight sensibly, or your body will fuel itself by consuming muscle (in extreme circumstances this can include organs such as the heart etc) and a poor diet will lead to nutrient deficiencies.

The end result is an unhealthy and flabby looking body - even if you are thinner. The lips and gums are perhaps a symptom of a bigger problem. I'd go to the dr. and have a chat if you're under a lot of stress. They could also give you some advice on your diet too.

antimatter · 19/04/2014 22:52

you may be suffering from www.nhs.uk/conditions/Scurvy/Pages/Introduction.aspx

we can't diagnose - only a gp with a help of blood test can help you

it isn't as simple as just eating an apple, because you need to balance it with calcium and so on and so forth

have your periods stopped as well?

AreWeThereYeti · 19/04/2014 22:52

I'm sure you know the answer to this Confused. You don't have to eat loads but you really do need to eat healthily. It's not rocket science.

oopsadaisyme · 19/04/2014 22:53

Ive read back and really I think I came across worse than I meant x

Have lost alot of weight and so appreciate concern (your a kind lot!) but really not ill x

I do eat when hungry, but just maybe not the right stuff- have listened to all your kind comments and will eat better !

You don't need to explain or justify yourself on mn
Do see your gp though, get checked up

gamerchick · 19/04/2014 22:54

yeah that's right.. eventually your body will start to eat your heart.. you aren't taking in any if any potassium so are at risk of a heart attack anyway.

Just go on blaming the lemon though.

PLEASE go and see the doctor.. you are harming yourself.

oopsadaisyme · 19/04/2014 22:55

anti sorry, but yes my periods stopped two month ago??

Basically, there are a number of vitamins & minerals which interact to maintain oral tissue. If I was to hazard a guest at the thing you're most likely deficient in, it would be the B vitamins because of no carbs. Having lost the amount of weight you have in the time you have with no attention to the nutrient content, I do think that you are probably generally malnourished. That's to say I don't think popping to a pharmacy or health food shop and buying a tub of vitamin B complex will sort you out without also increasing the vitamins & minerals from food. Bottom line is that the body doesn't' absorb nutrients from tablets as well as it does f food. Over time the effects of deficiency have a more serious effect on things like your nervous system & blood.

It is also quite possible that you have a kind of oral thrush that you need treatment for - it doesn't' always manifest as white patches in the mouth.

Please see your GP. With the best will in the world, we can't properly diagnose you on a forum.

oopsadaisyme · 19/04/2014 23:01

anti why do you mention?

Listen, I don't want to hurt myself or anything, I'm just really not hungry amymore, I'm so sorry -

If I was to be honest, yes, maybe because of my break up, and everytime i tried to eat I just heard 'fat cow' in my head.....

Now everyone saying how much weight i've lost and maybe it made me feel better...

bit upset, but not spoken, and maybe there something, maybe

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 19/04/2014 23:03

Appetite, self image, self esteem are all linked to food.youve restricted your food after a turbulent break up

gamerchick · 19/04/2014 23:03

maybe you can tell us about your break up.. have you spoken to anybody about that? Have you heard from him since christmas?

Quinteszilla · 19/04/2014 23:04

This is not good for liver and kidneys.

ImSoOverIt · 19/04/2014 23:07

You are probably seriously malnourished. Could be scurvy.

oopsadaisyme · 19/04/2014 23:09

gamer Cant go into it really -

Really upset, think Ive been trying to control certain things on my own, and maybe not done aswell as I thought -

OP posts:
ImSoOverIt · 19/04/2014 23:12

You really need to see a gp for a proper re-feeding program. You have been starving yourself.

PatriciaHolm · 19/04/2014 23:13

Your periods have stopped because you are overly stressed and have lost too much weight too quickly; you are undernourished. The gums and lips are symptoms of stress and malnourishment too.

I don't think you appreciate the damage your current lifestyle is doing, possibly permanently. Please see your GP!

oopsadaisyme · 19/04/2014 23:13

imsoover It's not scurvy!!!! just lost some weight fast and have sore gums and lips -

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 19/04/2014 23:16

Speculation about causes isn't helpful.and it makes you feel attacked
You don't have to justify or explain on mn,and I think you feel got at
Do book immediate gp appt.this is a conversation for real life, not mn

ImSoOverIt · 19/04/2014 23:18

Scurvy is vitamin c deficiency. It causes sore gums I gather you are not eating fruit if you are low carb? There is every possibility that you could have scurvy.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 19/04/2014 23:18

Your periods stopping following such a drastic weight loss and restrictive diet is a big concern. When your body is malnourished, it desperately tries to conserve energy by ceasing non vital functions such as; mensuration. If you carry on down this road, your vital body functions e.g. kidneys will suffer. Please see your GP.

member · 19/04/2014 23:20

You have done well at controlling the weight aspect ; now you need to refocus on your health.

oopsadaisyme · 19/04/2014 23:21

Thanks for your advice - but really ok -

bye
