lol pizza. More or less the same thing except endo it all over the outside and the other is all on the inside !! Still a hysterectomy is the end result Sad

gingeme · 16/05/2014 16:15

Why a spinal Mary ?

marymoocow · 16/05/2014 16:27

I ran off and googled too pizzaGrin . The spinal is a possibility for extra pain relief and comfort when I come roundHmm . I would still be asleep throughout the op. I won't know until the aneathetist speaks to me on the morning. My gut reaction is 'no', but have no idea really, which is why I wondered if anyone had any experience.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 16/05/2014 16:34

ginge as soon as i saw the word i recognised it, that's what the consultant was talking about with me too!

i get sharp abdo pains, not like cramping, and all the symptoms of having fibroids, but no sign of them

so we have periods coming from out muscle tissue - no wonder i get so freaking tired Sad

still, the physio session today was very informative (quite a surprise) - i was told the pelvic floor exercises i'd been attempting (and managing at times Grin ) were gold standard, so thanks to Gussie Grips and her threads here Thanks also, she gave some really useful tips about what's good movement and what isn't in the early days.

things like button up shirts instead of over-the-head tops and forget your bra as long as possible unless someone is going to do it up for you, and if you have to make a drink, do it sitting down resting your elbows on the worktop/breakfast bar.

gingeme · 16/05/2014 18:41

Ooh Mary I don't like the sound of that at all .
Yes it makes alot of sense to my symptoms ie ready to go to bed by 7pm . Sharp groin and abdo pains. Migraine galore especially latelySad anemia to the point my gums are pure white. Still havnt had a proper period since Jan though. Because it's all clogged up probably Sad Roughly how long do I wait now till I get an actual op date? Is that a bit like ' how long is a piece of string?' Hmm Hmm

marymoocow · 16/05/2014 21:41

I am seriously thinking of saying no. I would rather have the pain relief after I thinkConfused .

gingeme · 16/05/2014 21:46

That's up to you but personally I wouldn't . Why have they suggested this to you ?

LackaDAISYcal · 16/05/2014 22:20

Gosh it's all go here!! sorry that some of you are suffering; a friend of mine has adenomyosis and is in lots of pain with it; she wants more children though so is holding off on the hysterectomy. But....the end is in sight for you all! six weeks post op and I am pretty much back to normal, though I'm not back at work yet. It'll be interesting to see how I'd feel after a 10 hour shift! I'm sorried about my poor veins now after ditching the stockings Blush

signed off for another three weeks though and have a possible infection. I've had a bit of discharge; it was there when I had my three week check, but registrar said it was normal for that stage of healing. It's been on and off since then, and recently has turned a rather vivid yellow colour, but only appears after I've exerted myself! No temperature, but I have been feeling a bit headachey and fluey but was blaming that on the lupus/eyestrain as I need new specs. So, doc has done a swab (she said the wound looks OK, but she couldn't tell whether it was open or not and didn't want to crank the speculum too much in case she nurt me/did any damage) and given me two lots of ABs to start "just in case" one is four times a day and the other is three times a day...how I'll manage all that I don't know, I'm so forgetful. I'm thinking of holding off till the swab is back though as I'll have to stop my lupus meds when on the ABs and I'm in a bit of a flare and really don't want it to get any worse.

In other news, my kids school has a children's centre attached and they are soon to be starting 2 year old nursery provision. I've got an interview next Weds for a nursery assistant job...term time only working...whoop! Wish me luck!

The end is in sight. Think I'll make that my new mantra Grin

notapizzaeater · 17/05/2014 00:00

Good,luck Daisy x

JennyOnTheBlocks · 17/05/2014 18:26

Hoping the anti bs are kicking in, Lacksa?

I'm just packing my case - it's like I'm going on holiday Confused also got horrendous abdo pain, and headache and flooded whilst on a walk today, wasn't even aware I was bleeding again, so medicating with a cider and knowing that's the last walk that will be overshadowed

GnomeDePlume · 17/05/2014 18:36

Not sure if I am in the right place (so tell me to push off if I'm not!)

Finally my heavy periods caused a crisis meaning that I had to have something done about the aneamia (6.3!) resulting in DVT. So far I have only been treated for the DVT with warfarin which of course is making the heavy periods much, much worse.

The appointment with the gyneacologist arrived today. I'm not really sure what to expect. I have had ultrasound exam. The sonographer wasnt telling about the result - it's my body but her ultrasound machine!

So where does this go? From symptoms I am guessing fibroids. Is a hysterectomy the answer? My fear is being dismissed again. I cant live with heavy periods any more. Really I just want this over and done with.

Sorry i'm rambling a bit.

marymoocow · 17/05/2014 18:47

welcome GnomeSmile . That all sounds so familiarSad . Hope you get sorted soonThanks Thanks .

Shewhowines · 17/05/2014 18:53

Good luck tomorrow Jenny Thanks Soon be on the recovery sofa.

Hi, gnome - everybody is welcome. We wont tell you to push off!

GnomeDePlume · 17/05/2014 19:24

Thank you for the welcome.

Best wishes for your surgery Jenny.

I am sorry other people are going through this. The problem I have had is getting the GP to take an interest. I went several times saying I had heavy periods but I think that the GPs to a man (and woman) have heard the words heavy period and assumed I meant long period or irregular period not regular periods but with abattoir levels of blood loss.

I wonder if this is a common problem?

gingeme · 17/05/2014 19:24

Welcome Gnome Smile when is your gyne appt ?
How are you feeling Daisy ?

gingeme · 17/05/2014 19:25

Eek Jenny hope you sleep ok tonight xx

GnomeDePlume · 17/05/2014 19:26

Gyne appointment isnt until 20th June. I have private medical cover through work so I am thinking of seeing if I can use that to get seen sooner.

notapizzaeater · 17/05/2014 21:24

I'd go private, I'm going private and my appointment was 4 days later. I've booked in for surgery to suit me.

LackaDAISYcal · 17/05/2014 21:53

Welcome gnome Smile, but sorry you made your way here Sad. I'd definitely use the private health care card, as it will speed things up for you. I'd have used ours, but fortunately Hmm the cancer card gets you bumped up the queue as well!

I haven't started the ABs yet; I want to call my rheumy dept on Monday and ask their advice, or wait for the results of the swabs.

I had a prod round today Blush. You know when you make something and you do a shabby seam but think "ah well it's on the inside so no-one will see it". That! Confused. And no cervix just feels downright odd. I feel very sad about it all. Not sure I'm emotionally ready for sex just yet.

OP posts:
gingeme · 17/05/2014 21:53

Private sounds good. If only I could afford it Sad

LackaDAISYcal · 17/05/2014 21:54

that was a bit proprietorial of the sonographer...when I went for my initial ultrasound, he told me he could see something that looked like a polyp or fibroid.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 18/05/2014 05:48

Morning everyone, and welcome to new faces

I think the GP's understanding of what a 'heavy' period means to the woman experiencing it, is paramount. At our surgery there is only one woman GP who will talk gynae issues, the other male GPs seem to use this as a get-out-of-jail card to avoid talking about them at all. And all the woman doctor does is refer you on. We should not be confined to our homes for days at a time because of our gender.

I'm probably about to launch into a sleep-deprived and hormone-induced rant now, so I'll shut up

AnnieIncognito · 18/05/2014 17:18

Hi everyone. I am still here and still doing well. Sorry I haven't updated.

I am 11 days post LAVH and feeling wonderful. My surgery went well and my recovery has gone very smoothly. I have not had the need for painkillers since 2 days post-op. I have had some mild discomfort, but no pain. The only issue I have had is fatigue. I have been struggling to keep my eyes open and have slept away the bulk of the last 11 days.

Just wanted to quickly update everyone. Going back to read and catch up on the thread.

gingeme · 18/05/2014 19:46

Hi Annie. Wow sounds like you've sailed through it so far Smile
