New Thread...
Over here for the hand holding

One in five women in the uk will have to have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives

Come and join us if you are waiting, pre-op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards or just need a bit of advice.

I'd ring the hospital atsea, or try and get a docs appointment. Better to get it checked out.

I have finally been able to leave the dressing off the wound from my drain and it appears to be healing nicely.

Do any of you have scabs along your scar ? I do and the practice nurse said 'oh that's just dry blood you can pick them off'
Well they are very attached and I will not be picking them off for fear of unraveling lol.
Will they just dissapear ??

Yrs I have dried blood, saw it yesterday when she took the remaining staples out. She gently wiped it but they are attached, she said when have my dressing off (she recovered it) they will just wash off in the shower, but not to rub them let them come off naturally. She's back Thursday and if it's all ok think she's going to leave my dressing off.

Hi Nutcracker

I took my dressing off yesterday and have a few places with raised bumps, including one which I think is the last stitch, which hasn't dissolved. I don't want to pick at it, for the same reason as you basically lol, but the surgeon told me that it would help the scar if I applied a thin layer of Vaseline onto it, so I'm doing that.

Atsea - I agree with all the others on here who say you should ring the ward, or NHS Direct (does that still exist?) or your GP or somebody with medical knowledge sooner rather than later about that rash. It may be nothing to worry about, but if it is an infection, it won't go away on its own and the longer you leave it, the harder it will be to sort it out.

Thanks to all those who post - I've found it really helpful to have other experiences to compare mine with.

I have no follow up appointment, and was told to see my go when I 'felt like taking HRT'. So very confused. I have no transport to hospital or GP, so nothing I can do really today but I will ring ward this afternoon and see what they say. Smell seems to have gone now at least.

Sister on the ward said she'd never heard of it and said 'it's got nothing to do with your op', to which I replied of course it has, I've never had a rash on my fanjo and thighs before until I had op so it must be related somehow!
Anyway I'm going back in at 6pm when I can get a lift.

Hi all. Five weeks today since my op, I'm still sore and tired but went out for lunch today and can do a lot more. I had a CT scan last week to see if the ovarian cancer they found has spread and am waiting for results by phone this week which is horrible. I just want to know so I can get my head around what comes next.

Good luck, Dippy

Mary, I'm 6 weeks over now and beginning to ease back into 'normal' life (whatever that is)
Still can't handle dog walking though. Pooch's training has gone all to pot outside the house so will have a task on my hands during the summer holidays.
keeping fingers crossed too that DD's playscheme is accessible to her this year, otherwise I'm going to have two unruly beings about the place

Hope you're ok now, AtSea

Off back to the doctors this morning. Wound is bleeding quite a bit where the infection is. I'm afraid I'm not getting anywhere near to normal Jenny, annoying when I was doing so well at the beginningSad . Good luck with the doggy training, and childcare. Not sure which would be easier to be honestGrin .

Oh Mary that doesn't sound good at all. Hope you get better soon.

Good luck Dippy, take some peppermint cordial in with you, I didn't and found the hospital had ran out. I didn't find the trapped wind as painful as others. I had mine last Thursday.

The hospital left me waiting in the corridor for 4 hours last night, before a nurse saw me and asked 'what have you had done?' Even then she made me go and sit back on a hard chair. I asked for pain killers as mine had worn off but got told I couldn't have any until the doctor saw me.
Doctor wasn't concerned about my rash and just prescribed canestan and told to see GP on Monday if it doesn't clear up. I'm much more mobile now, pottering at parents home, in a bungalow so not tackled stairs yet. Appetite finally returning, eating it helping to shift the bloating. On the plus side I needed to lose a couple of stone, to get in to size 12s, so this will certainly help.

Swab taken, dressed wound with iodine strip to be changed everyday and an appointment to see the nurse again on Monday. She's hoping that it will have dried up by then. Hurts more than when I came out of hospitalSad . Strict instructions to not do anything againAngry .
Good job I was signed off for 10 weeksGrin . I'm thinking I shall need them all......

Beginning to realise I don't seem to know when I need a wee - only realise when my tummy hurts - my growth was pushing on my bladder, could this be a side effect of the catheter ?

Also tmi needed here but if you've had the cervix removed does everything just drop out straight after sex ? ( this is presuming I'm going to have sex again ! Currently DH is going to be going nowhere near me for months ......)

I've just had a letter telling me my op date is much sooner than anticipated! I'm having a subtotal hysterectomy with sacrocolpopexy as well so tend to go on this and the prolapse thread. I'm terrified now!

Dippy, sounds like you are doing brilliantly to be walking already.
Mary, you poor thing, sounds awful. I do hope it dries up soon and you are more comfortable.
Pizza I have absolutely no idea, but as I've had my cervix removed I am waiting intently. Though I am NEVER having sex again, just the thought of it right now is unthinkable!

Im back from my checkup and my growth was 6" round and was cancerous. Luckily for me it was totally contained in the middle of it and after the surgery my doctor did a wash to check for cancerous cells anywhere else and I'm all clear so no further treatment for that. Back to see him in 4 weeks.

Wound healing well, def have to wear these silly stockings for another 3 weeks.

Report
AtSea1979 · 04/07/2014 13:26

Pizza that is great news, well that it was contained anyway.

I've finished my jabs, really didn't like those nasty stingy things.

Sounds like you are doing great dizzy Grin

I had my stents out yesterday. Wasn't the nicest feeling in the world but it's done now and I no longer feel like I constantly need a wee.

I'm 3 weeks post op today and feeling pretty good so far, long may it continue.
