Come and join us if you are waiting, pre-op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards or just need a bit of advice.

My wonderful body has decided to remind me for one last time the positive reasons for this opSad , so I'm with you there Jenny.
As for the 'out by 11am' it most probably will be as my op is also NHS in a private hospital, so own room and ensuite for me tooGrin (maybe it is a hotel!). Foxes glacier mints, now I can eat those. Off to buy a huge supply tomorrow. It is certainly all becoming more real.
What's happened to Annie? Have I missed her posts?

gingeme · 14/05/2014 08:00

What is the carb drink for ?
I'm having my gynecologist appts and had my hysteroscopy in a lovely little private hospital so fingers crossed I'll have my op there too Smile

marymoocow · 14/05/2014 09:20

No idea what the carb drink is for. Roll on next week, have been sent home from work this morningSad .

Shewhowines · 14/05/2014 09:38

For my radical abdo hysterectomy I had the 6 drinks. Mine were lemon flavour and were surprisingly ok. I think they were to aid recovery-goodness knows how! I also had 4 weeks worth of injections that we had to do at home in my stomach every night Sad.
I had to wear the stockings for 6 weeks. It didn't depend on activity levels. The nurse said 2 weeks but the consultant said new guidelines say 6.

I could have managed the school run by about 2 weeks but I think I was still shuffling at that stage.

Tbh the recovery was really quick in the first couple of weeks, so much so, that I started planning things in the thought that I would be fully recovered by 4weeks. However after the first couple of weeks the recovery tailed off a bit. It was still steady but not at the same fast pace. It took 6-8 weeks to be really up to speed. I was lucky in that I had no complications or infections

Shewhowines · 14/05/2014 09:40

I also had to do a special diet for three days beforehand. No fresh fruit, meat herbs or spices etc. I haven't heard anyone else have that

JennyOnTheBlocks · 14/05/2014 10:25

The drink is call 'Preload' and we're given it to drink twice the day before and early on the morning of surgery. No dietary restrictions, just advised to take on extra fluids.

I'm used to wearing compression socks after running, might take my own snazzy ones in to liven up a dull day on the ward.

Shewhowines, 6 weeks to be up to speed sounds brilliant to me, some of the RL people I've been talking to have said it's taken that long for them to be able to lift a kettle Hmm

Been having a lot of pains this week, think my body really wants to have a massive period, but I'm still taking the norethisterone so keeping most of that at bay, I don't have time to have a period when there's so much to get ready for after surgery Confused

Shewhowines · 14/05/2014 10:45

I must admit I didn't iron or Hoover for a lot longer than 6 weeks - not because I didn't feel able, but because I was frightened of doing my self damage. I was doing everything else though.

notapizzaeater · 14/05/2014 14:18

I hope I'm almost back to normal by 6 weeks, at 6.5 weeks we are going yo the commonwealth games - decided to go by train just In case, but don't fancy 5 hours in train in agony ....

gingeme · 14/05/2014 15:02

iron ? what's that ? Dh does the hoovering Grin that and mowing the lawn are his jobs Wink

JennyOnTheBlocks · 14/05/2014 17:28

ginge

i don't do ironing either, and i only ever vacuum downstairs, upstairs is DHs department too we don't have any lawns to mow, but the hedges need cutting - that'll keep DH out of trouble inbetween school runs and dog walks next week [hopeful]

gingeme · 14/05/2014 19:20

No hedges here and he will love taking the dog over the field for an hour or so to give me some real peace.Hes not the quietist of folk lol

marymoocow · 15/05/2014 12:50

On the final countdownSmile . And not a moment too soon, another lost day from workSad . Dc3 is starting to get clingy (although its SATs week too, so that could also be it). Hope everyone is OK today

JennyOnTheBlocks · 15/05/2014 12:57

when do you go in, mary?

marymoocow · 15/05/2014 13:14

On Wednesday JennySmile . Pre-op assessment tomorrow.....

JennyOnTheBlocks · 15/05/2014 13:16

OOOh, I'm still first next week then Shock

monday, 7.30am

had pre-op a few weeks ago, gave some bloods up last friday

it's funny how different areas have different procedures for the same ends Confused

marymoocow · 15/05/2014 13:57

oh good luck Jenny. Ordinarily I would be panicking about anything like this, but it all just seems like a huge relief (may need reminding that I said that on Tuesday eveningGrin )

JennyOnTheBlocks · 15/05/2014 14:05

thanks, i'm swaying between nerves and relief that this will finally be over

i don't know about you, but every twinge and pain that normally i'd be brushing off is now playing on my mind, i'm so looking forwards to not having to think about whether i've flooded a chair, and timing trips out on the worst days.

marymoocow · 15/05/2014 15:22

....or having to get up 2/3 times in the night. The main reason I have taken today off work is because I couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't have to run out on a class full of children, that and I'm shattered by it allSad Its good to have someone going through it at the same time, with similar symptoms

JennyOnTheBlocks · 15/05/2014 16:57

DH keeps saying 'you look so tired' and then asks if i'm overdoing 'it'

yes, i'm active, but i don't climb everest every day.

i shall once this is done and dusted though Grin

gingeme · 16/05/2014 09:48

Good luck for Monday Jane x

gingeme · 16/05/2014 09:48

Jenny even Blush

marymoocow · 16/05/2014 14:00

Pre-op assessment all ticked off. EGG was an amusing experience (being the first time I've ever had one), and my usual miniscule veins decided they weren't going to be particularly forthcoming. There's a possibility I might have a spinal anesthetic - anyone experienced one? for's and againsts?
I'm also hopefully 1st on the list as long as there aren't any diabetics (due to my latex allergy). I knew there would be an upside to allergies eventually in lifeGrin . In fact most of time talking was spent discussing my allergies rather than the op!

gingeme · 16/05/2014 14:27

Well I have just got a copy of the letter they sent to my gp. Turns out I dont have endometriosis I have Adenomyosis.

notapizzaeater · 16/05/2014 15:57

Runs off to google it .....
