New Thread...
Over here for the hand holding

One in five women in the uk will have to have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives

Come and join us if you are waiting, pre-op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards or just need a bit of advice.

Hello everyone, Marshy directed me to this thread after I posted about an endometrial biopsy.
I was referred after heavy bleeding and pain and the consultant wanted to do a biopsy though she thought it very unlikely it would come back showing anything serious.
But I am feeling quite poor. I had it done a week ago and found it very painful.
Had mild bleeding afterwards which was light all week which got worse on Friday and is now painful and quite heavy (mooncup and pads and passing clots).
Have any of you had a similar reaction? Not sure if I need to get some medical advice or just wait until tomorrow when everywhere will be open again.
Would be very grateful for any advice/hand holding. Thank you!

notapizzaeater · 05/05/2014 09:16

I had a womb biopsy and I just bled a little, (one towel for a couple of hours) no clots etc, I'd phone nhs direct as that doesn't sound right.

Daisy - how do you feel today ? Temp ok ?

Pannacotta · 05/05/2014 09:33

Thanks notapizza. NHS Direct has closed down now so may have to go to the out of hours clinic.

BubaMarra · 05/05/2014 10:33

Hello, just been admitted to the hospital for conisation. Hopefully the procedure will be done tomorrow and will be back home on Wednesday. Eyes are ok now. Thanks everyone.

Shewhowines · 05/05/2014 11:00

scarlet I was referred for ct and mri scan immediately, so I don't think they will be expecting to find anything.

Hi panna welcome

buba are you calm? How come they've admitted you today if you aren't having it done till tomorrow? Are you in Ireland?

anni hope you arent getting too worried about Wed.

LackaDAISYcal · 05/05/2014 15:34

There is a 111 number isn't there Pannacotta, or does your local NHS trust do an OOH service? or is there a walk-in clinic local to you? I would think you need to get seen asap, especially if you are feeling ill. Could be an infection.

Good Luck Bubba; I hope you manage to have a god rest tonight.

I feel grand today; tummy button feels much less tight and sore and jeans are more comfortable, so I guess it was just a stitch going pffft. I guess I'll be back at work sooner rather than later

Shewhowines, no not in Ireland. I needed to come in one day before the procedure to get all the pre op stuff done. Don't know why, probably it's more complicated procedure than usual lletz conisation because of GA and because bigger chunk of the cervix will be cut. I feel...don't know...sad because I see many pregnant ladies around ( on another ward) and wish that was the reason I am at this place again (gave birth in this hospital both times). Melancholy would be the right word I guess.

Talked to the anesthesiologist who will be there during the procedure, she was all relaxed until I mentioned that I had a cold and then she started asking million questions about it and going back through my bloodwork. It's a common cold! The only reason why I am not freaking out about GA is because I try NOT to think about it. And now this.

gingeme · 05/05/2014 16:52

Good luck buba hope all goes well tommorrow Grin
penna get to the gp first thing in the morning.
I'm having my biopsy Monday. Should I expect bleeding after ?

Pannacotta · 05/05/2014 17:27

Thanks will see GP tmrw.
Yes gingeme expect bleeding and take some painkillers before your appt, I didn't know I was having it done, if I had I would have taken some ibuprofen beforehand.

gingeme · 05/05/2014 17:44

Thankyou I shall.
Keep us posted. Hope it isn't anything bad xx

Pannacotta · 05/05/2014 18:06

Thanks gingeme that's kind if you. Am recently separated and have two young boys so am feeling extra anxious which doesn't help.
Good luck with your apt, hope it goes ok.
Daisy you sound on good form, how long are you off for?

gingeme · 05/05/2014 18:17

Sad pannacotta. Anxious times indeed . x

LackaDAISYcal · 05/05/2014 18:47

I'm four and a bit weeks post op Pannacotta, and signed off till a week Friday. Buuut, I have quite a physical job and not sure if I'm ready to heft bodies across beds on slide sheets just yet Confused though I suppose I could go back on lighter duties, if they have hours available for me (zero hours contract)

Good Luck with the doc tomorrow and keep us posted.

Ginge, take some ibuprofen and paracetomol an hour before your procedure; I didn't the first time and felt quite crampy and sore. Second and third times round I was more prepared. Are they doing a hysteroscopy examination as well?

Good Luck Buba!!

gingeme · 05/05/2014 18:54

Yes Daisy. I'm guessing thats an internal scan as the letter said to tell them if I have any latex issues. I've had so many I don't understand why I have to have another one. But hey it's another step closer to my op Smile

Pannacotta · 05/05/2014 19:14

Thanks Daisy and take care of yourself, no rush to get back to work surely?!
Hope you are being well looked after by your clan.

LackaDAISYcal · 05/05/2014 21:54

My clan keep telling me to take it easy. DH says I've done more houswework since my op than I did in the 9 years prior Grin

Gingem, they will have a look round inside with the hysteroscope...you should be able to see it too. It's quite interesting seeing the inside of your own womb. I'm glad I had the chance before they yanked it out through my vagina! Wink

On another note, DH is making ever harder to ignore "stroke me" noises. I know that being out of action vaginally shouldn't stop us being intimate, but bloody hell, the thought of it is the furthest thing from my mind. I couldn't care less if I ever got my mojo back, but I can tell DH is getting a bit frustrated. I really can not be arsed and am doing the denial thing; going to bed super late so he is already asleep, finding excuses not to cuddle, wriggling out of his embrace and making jokes if he tries it on I've tried to talk to him about it, but I just clam up.

Isn't it 6 weeks before you can even consider it ...

LackaDAISYcal · 05/05/2014 23:13

Are you sure it's not 12, pizza? WinkGrin

notapizzaeater · 05/05/2014 23:16

One of my fiends convinced her hubby it was 12 weeks after having a smear, and she "had" to have annual smears ... BlushBlushBlushBlush

LackaDAISYcal · 05/05/2014 23:20

Is that a euphamistic "friend" pizza? Grin. Genius though!!!

Naw mines too, wise Hmm. They are divorced now though !

AnnieIncognito · 06/05/2014 02:21

Thanks for checking in shewhowines. Surgery is Weenesday and I'm finally calm about it. One more day of work and then nearly 3 weeks off!!! Bliss - well aside from the whole surgical removal of an organ, nerve-wracking bowel movements and general discomfort. But way-hay nearly 3 weeks off! Wink

BubaMarra · 06/05/2014 06:12

Hello Annie, good luck for tomorrow. Good that you are finally calm about it.

gingeme · 06/05/2014 13:01

Hope your surgery and recovery go well Annie Smile
Suffering with a bloody migrane today Sad it's all the hormones and stress. Period was very light and lasted just 4 days. Good news as far as biopsy is concerned. Thank God for Migraleve I say.
How is everyone else ? Smile

LackaDAISYcal · 06/05/2014 14:54

Only three weeks off Annie Shock! I'm four and a half weeks post op and am only now starting to feel normal. I don't think I could go back to work yet, but my job is quite demanding physically and there is a lot of driving involved.

Good luck for tomorrow Flowers

Feeling great today, but I have been sitting on my arse all day after a bit of a busy weekend. I'm generally fine, but if I overdo things, I get a bit of pain and discomfort and also a bit of vaginal discharge. Hence sitting on the sofa with my knitting today. I need to decide whether I feel fit enough for work next weekend or to see the doc about another couple of weeks.
