I was told to expect 8 weeks off......so that's what I've told work. Hope they don't change their mind!

AnnieIncognito · 07/05/2014 13:28

It's D-day for me and I'm feeling surprisingly calm about it. I have to leave for the hospital in just over an hour so need to get moving. Thank you for the support thus far - it means so much! X

I am 7 hours post hysterectomy and I feel wonderful. I have had anti-inflamatories but no pain meds and still feel great! Not at all what I expected. I have mind period-like cramps but otherwise feel fab. I have been walking up and down the halls for the past 3 hours and am shocked at how well I feel.

gingeme · 08/05/2014 08:00

Grin annie how are you feeling since your last post ? Still wonderful I hope x

notapizzaeater · 08/05/2014 08:14

Annie, Wow, that's great but don't overdo it.

Bubba how are you ?

BubaMarra · 08/05/2014 09:47

Annie, so glad to hear that you are feeling great! Was thinking about you yesterday. As others said, just don't overdo it.

Compared to Annie I am a total wimp obviously. I had the procedure on Tuesday morning and was in such a pain for the whole day. They gave me a pain killer that did nothing (and I mean NOTHING) and changed it to another drug that did the trick and the pain susbsided. I was told that I might feel period like cramping, but actually it felt like labour contractions - waves of horrible pain followed by period of rest. I still feel achy especially if I am sitting or standing for prolonged period of time. And this procedure was nothing!

Shewhowines · 08/05/2014 16:47

buba No you are not a wimp. I only had a local for my cone biopsy. They were cutting a huge chunk out of you under GA. You said they were cutting a lot out, so don't say it was nothing. They cocked up with the pain relief too. If they had sorted that out properly, it would have been a much better experience.

Hope yoiu are still feeling good annie

marymoocow · 08/05/2014 16:52

Glad to hear you so positive AnnieSmile . Bubba hope you are feeling a bit better now.
OK, after being the picture of calm all these weeks I have just gone mega wobbly. I have my pre-op assessment a week tomorrow (mental note to find out what that really meansBlush Blush Blush Blush ). It suddenly seems real. I still haven't had my op date in writing so just phoned the hospital to find out if that was normal to be told the letter was either done yesterday or today (she'll be typing it now thenGrin ) D-day is the 21st, 8am admission - now wondering about the practicalities of getting dc's to school...
Sorry for the ramble

LackaDAISYcal · 08/05/2014 17:50

Bloody hell Annie; 7 hours post op I was still half unconscious and throwing up everywhere! Just shows how different people react to anaesthetics. Did you have a general or an epidural?

I hope the rest of your recovery is this good!

Take it easy bubba. It's a big chunk of tissue removed, not like an incision that can be stitched up neatly, similar to losing a chunk of finger from a bite being much more painful than a cut!

mary, we're here to help you through your wobbles. Pre-op assessment is a mahoosive health questionnaire, blood tests, swabs for MRSA, height and weight for determining the amount of anesthetic needed etc. If needs be they may do an ecg as well; I had one as I occasionally get palpitations.

Not hysterectomy related but I was at my rheumatology clinic today for my lupus and they have decided to change my medication as the one I usually take isn't working as well as it should as I currently have bursitis in my shoulder and hip and my finger, toe and elbow joints are very inflamed and they don;t eant me to rely on the steroid injections that I have every 4 months. So, as of tomorrow I will be on a low dose chemotherapy drug for the forseeable future Sad. Main side effects are nausea, anaemia, jaundice, acute hepatitis and cirrhosis, so they have told me that I have to give up alcohol Shock. Bye, bye lovely Wine Sad. But if it gets my pain under control a bit better....

Marshy · 08/05/2014 21:34

Hi all,

Just a quick update from me. Had my biopsy results appointment today and it was all clear! Cue tears from me and doctor scrabbling round the office looking for tissues!

I'm going to talk to the breast care team now about going back on the tamoxifen. Will be having a follow up scan and gynae appt in 3 months as they saw an area of darkened tissue that they're not worried about but want to keep tabs on me cos of the tamoxifen.

So a good day overall.

Daisy - is your new meds methotrexate? I have psoriatic arthritis and was on that for a while. No side effects to speak of but found the blood test regime difficult to manage and it was a pain having to closely monitor wine intake!

I'm now on humira which is a bit scary in terms of potential side effects but has reduced arthritis symptoms to virtually zero. Don't know if that's licensed for lupus.

Good luck to all undergoing tests or treatment.

Marshy x

LackaDAISYcal · 08/05/2014 21:49

Grin Marshy

I hope you are celebrating with some wine tonight. Have some for me Wink

I'll see how things pan out. If it helps the pain and inflammation...

OP posts:
Marshy · 08/05/2014 22:14

Yes daisy, champagne has been had! It's not much fun having joint pain, completely with you there. I'm overdue my humira injection as you have to be clear of it pre surgery as it reduces resistance to infection and I didn't know what news today might bring. My joints are a bit sore in the mornings at the moment so I'm looking forward to having my jab tomorrow - won't trust myself to do it tonight! Hope the new meds work for you xx

gingeme · 09/05/2014 08:05

Morning all.
How are you today buba and annie? Smile

BubaMarra · 09/05/2014 08:54

Hello everyone, thank you all for your support Thanks

Shewhowines, I always try to put up with pain as I am just not a natural moaner so to say. So when they gave me the first drug and I realised that 10 minutes later I was in some kind of crawling position in my bed trying to find a position to ease my pain, at that point I realised that I could not last longer like that and asked for another drug. And was given immediately.

Marshy that's GREAT news! Yaaay! What a relief for you!

Hope Annie is ok.

Daisy, sorry to hear about your lupus. On a different note, how's your sewing course going? Hope you enjoy it.

Dh is away for two nights and I actually find it really nice to be home alone Grin. I did school run yesterday and was ok with it, took the children to the park after that and watched them play happily with their friends. I really enjoyed it. Now I am sitting here, doing nothing apart from drinking coffee and MNetting. Life is good Grin

Shewhowines · 10/05/2014 07:35

What a relief marshy

buba hope you enjoyed yesterday.

lack hope you have organised more time off work. Don't even consider less than 6-8 weeks.

annie where are you?

mary you'll be fine. Honest.

marymoocow · 10/05/2014 12:17

Thank you to everyone. Common sense head knows I'll be perfectly fine, and it will be the best thing ever. Think it was just one of those moments where something that has been talked about for ages suddenly has got to being within touching distance. On the positive side I've been out and bought my last lot of sanitary suppliesGrin . Yes one more round to go.....
Hope everyone else is OK this morningThanks .

JennyOnTheBlocks · 10/05/2014 17:38

hello there

hope it's ok for me to join in here, i'm not new to MN, but this is a new account

booked for total hysterectomy very soon after a whole adult lifetime of prolonged/painful/heavy menstrual bleeding

i bled on the pill, the implant and mirena, and now, after 30+ years of going back and forwards to the GP, i'm having everything removed.

smears have always been clear, biopsy showed an acute infection which i had awful anti bs for, but the bleeding still continued - 35 days in a row with a 2 week break was 'normal' for me

i can't WAIT for the op tbh, it's the recovery i'm dreading. I'm fit/active and need to get back up and on it asap - help me stay rested

LackaDAISYcal · 10/05/2014 17:57

Hi Jenny; welcome Smile

If you are fit and healthy, you should have a pretty good recovery. Are they doing the op laparoscopically? I'm five weeks post lap assisted and if I didn't have a physically demanding job, I would be happy to be back at work next week.
