Urgent! What works for chronic constipation to the point I simply can't go?

Not been to the toilet for over a week now. Got to the stage where I cannot eat. Nothing is working I have tried exlax chocolate, suppositories, laxido (8 sachets) & dulcalax pico pearles plus lots of water. The out of hours GP prescribed the pico pearles last night & I took them about 10 1/2 hours ago as well as the max dose of laxiod again & suppositories. Supposed to work within 6 to 12 hours, still nothing.. What else can I try? I don't want to spend Christmas day on the toilet or unable to eat. :(

Pixie - hope you ok.
Never been as bunged up as you but just straight forward constipation is painful enough.
Hope you get home to your bed/own loo soon.

Still in hospital I'm afraid. Had 2 enemas which didn't work so being kept in. They are about to put me on a drip. Oh deep joy. Will laugh about it one day. Thanks for all the advice everyone. Hopefully things move tomorrow & I can go home. :) Happy Christmas to all & crappy Christmas to me hopefully lol. xx

Oh dear. Have they done an xray?

Report
Pixiedust1973 · 24/12/2013 23:52

Yes. Did x ray & bloods. Can see blockage. Its quite high up, hence enemas & suppositories not working. :(

Poor you, no wonder you've been feeling so sick. What a horrible thing to have at this time of year. Another time, do go sooner - it can really make you very poorly with fever, etc., and you can even end up vomiting faeces. It's no small matter and nobody will ever think you're being melodramatic.

Hope you are ok OP. I too have reached the enema-in-hospital stage, that is grim enough let alone that failing to work. Hope you have some answers soon.
