Urgent! What works for chronic constipation to the point I simply can't go?

Not been to the toilet for over a week now. Got to the stage where I cannot eat. Nothing is working I have tried exlax chocolate, suppositories, laxido (8 sachets) & dulcalax pico pearles plus lots of water. The out of hours GP prescribed the pico pearles last night & I took them about 10 1/2 hours ago as well as the max dose of laxiod again & suppositories. Supposed to work within 6 to 12 hours, still nothing.. What else can I try? I don't want to spend Christmas day on the toilet or unable to eat. :(

Merry Christmas! So sorry you are in hospital but so glad you are there and they are sorting it out. Smile

CinnamonPorridge · 25/12/2013 07:47

I hope things are moving!

I agree with Branleuse to try giving up gluten.

Hope you can come home today. Flowers

ChineseFireball · 25/12/2013 08:15

Merry Christmas Pixiedust I hope things are moving along for you and that you don't have too rotten a day!

revivingsnowshower · 25/12/2013 08:31

Merry Christmas and sorry it is in hospital but get well soon, and look on the bright side at least you are not at the in laws! X

gussiegrips · 25/12/2013 08:55

Blooming heck.

Hope the drip does the trick, glad you'll be feeling better soon.

SantasComingEarlyHisSackIsFull · 25/12/2013 09:06

I've been following this and thinking of you, PixieDust. I hope you are more comfortable now and in the nicest possible way, I am glad you are in hospital, your symptoms started to sound a bit scary.

How are you feeling today?

CadleCrap · 25/12/2013 09:17

Never in my life have I wished for a complete stranger to have a poo!

Good luck!

Pixiedust1973 · 25/12/2013 09:32

Doctor came round. They are sending me home. No results whatsoever. Can't do any investigation now coz its Christmas & they need the bed for all the drunks coming in later. Why waste my time admitting me then? I feel worse than when I came in. Good old East Surrey hospital. :(

Pixiedust1973 · 25/12/2013 09:34

They didn't bother with the drip in the end. Lol at you all wishing me to poo. Bless you all. Much appreciated all your kindness. :)

Oh Pixie. That's not what we wanted to happen. Poor you.

Home, warm bath, warm hot water bottle and a sprout?

Pixiedust1973 · 25/12/2013 10:00

Unfortunately I'm due to spend the day at my mother in laws & stay over. Will have either no bed downstairs or bed some distance away from the toilet which I will be sharing with 5 other people. :( Maybe I should just get pissed up so I don't care lol.

CinnamonPorridge · 25/12/2013 10:04

What?
I don't believe this. Can't you insist on the drip? Is there a hospital near your inlaws?

soupmaker · 25/12/2013 10:05

Happy Christmas Pixie. Have been willing you on. So sorry it was to no avail. Constipation is just mean. Hope you manage to have some fun. Thanks

PrimalLass · 25/12/2013 10:15

Maybe drink lots of beer? That has dramatic results for me.

howmuchworse · 25/12/2013 10:19

Can't you insist on staying home Pixie, you sound so unwell?
Hope for relief for you asap. Thanks

underthebluemoon · 25/12/2013 10:20

You poor thing. You need to be at home. You have just spent a night in hospital - your in laws will understand.

revivingsnowshower · 25/12/2013 10:29

Pixie I think you need to tell mil what is wrong and she will probably either be understanding of you staying home or at least give you room near toilet.

tribpot · 25/12/2013 11:13

You need to stay at home, Pixie. What did the hospital say about follow-up?

DeadMansBones · 25/12/2013 11:25

you poor thing, can't believe the hospital didn't give you the drip!

Pixiedust1973 · 25/12/2013 13:23

They couldn't be bothered with drip when they realised I had no cannula in my arm to attach it to. Can't really get out of going. Don't want to spoil the day for dp & my dad too. Mil is pretty selfish & wouldn't understand. Dp wants to please everyone. Had a couple of hours sleep now so feel a bit better. Will see how things go. :)

They told me I need to go to my gp & get referred for ultrasound or other investigations to see what is wrong.

OP posts:
tribpot · 25/12/2013 13:39

At least come back tonight?

So they've done an x-ray and can see a blockage, but now you're to wait for a primary care referral before they can be arsed (no pun intended) doing anything about it? WTF do they suggest you do in the meantime?

CheckpointCharlie · 25/12/2013 13:42

Oh no. Can't believe it?! Poor you. Can you drink through it?

RockinAroundTheXmasTreeHippy · 25/12/2013 13:59

Sorry you've had such a crap experience with your hospital & are still ill, my DF has just had similar after a very nasty chest infection & he was so ill with it, it seemed he just wasn't recovering at all, once it cleared it was like a miracle recovery, within 10 minutes of going to the loo for a good clear out, he was back to his old self

As its Xmas day it will be difficult for you to get hold of much, but if they have apple juice - drink litres of the stuff - its a natural laxative & a good one too.

& when you can - you need Senna Tablets very very effective & again natural, our GP agrees its much better than anything she can prescibe.

hope its shifted soon

clio51 · 25/12/2013 14:15

That is disgusting! So you've basically just sat around had no sleep nothing done really! And feel so ill.

Sorry pixie but I couldn't go somewhere and pretend all was well when you feel so ill.

Could your dad not go with your hubby and come back later with a plate dinner for you. At least you would be able to relax cause that's what you need to do! Not have thoughts of other people and how far the toilet is you need to look after yourself!

Really hope it sorts it self out.
