Urgent! What works for chronic constipation to the point I simply can't go?

Not been to the toilet for over a week now. Got to the stage where I cannot eat. Nothing is working I have tried exlax chocolate, suppositories, laxido (8 sachets) & dulcalax pico pearles plus lots of water. The out of hours GP prescribed the pico pearles last night & I took them about 10 1/2 hours ago as well as the max dose of laxiod again & suppositories. Supposed to work within 6 to 12 hours, still nothing.. What else can I try? I don't want to spend Christmas day on the toilet or unable to eat. :(

It is definitely not normal constipation.

I just want to know if OP is okay.

Please come back pixiedust and let us all know that you are fine.

A friend's daughter (early teens) got blocked up (chronic constipation sufferer from birth). She was given lactulose to soften up stools so it could get out and senna to break down the old stuff. Took 3 months.

This was after x-rays etc, so they knew what the blockage was.

Hope OP is ok, and that is all it is.

Hello, Sorry for forgetting to update. Thanks for the PM Lilliput. :) Things have been moving along reasonably well but I went to my GP on 2nd January to see if the blockage was completely cleared. He said he can still feel something so has referred me for further investigations, what this will involve who knows? In the meantime I am feeling fine apart from still having the chronic pain & needing the codeine so am taking Laxido regularly to ensure things don't get as bad as they were. Am going to Wales this weekend with my Fiancé (his family live there) to go to wedding fairs & see potential venues. All very exciting. Thank you everyone for all your lovely & sometimes quite funny posts which really cheered me up during what was a horrible time. I will endeavour to update the thread when I have more news. :)

Hi Pixie when I was having issues I was referred to specialist who took my history etc He referred me for gynae scan as well as flexi sigmoidoscopy. This is where they stick a magic eye up your backside and have a look on the camera. Sounds bad I know but worth it for reassurance etc and usually means you don't need an aesthetic which is a plus! I imagine your case will involve something similar but guess its different from place to place;-)

OP, have rtft (honestly Grin) but can't remember all the details, sorry

So, I don't know if this is of any use, but my DD who has IBS (though has only recently tried to give up gluten etc completely) started taking \link{http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acidophilus-Bifidobacteria-Probiotics-Supplement-Intolerance/dp/B0096BW8YK/ref=sr_1_6?s=drugstore&ie=UTF8&qid=1389470883&sr=1-6&keywords=Probiotic%5Cthese&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 probiotics} a week or so ago, & from endless horrible cycles of constipation/diarrhoea (mostly constipation, she got through tons of senokot) has entered a magic world of comfortable regularity - she is amazed!
