Not been to the toilet for over a week now. Got to the stage where I cannot eat. Nothing is working I have tried exlax chocolate, suppositories, laxido (8 sachets) & dulcalax pico pearles plus lots of water. The out of hours GP prescribed the pico pearles last night & I took them about 10 1/2 hours ago as well as the max dose of laxiod again & suppositories. Supposed to work within 6 to 12 hours, still nothing.. What else can I try? I don't want to spend Christmas day on the toilet or unable to eat. :(

I'd be tempted to go to A&E sooner.

It sounds like you have a blockage too high up for any suppository or enema to reach, which in itself is quite unusual. Most people would be feeling very blocked and uncomfortable in the rectal area, but you aren't, which is kind of strange.

I really, really feel for you.

revivingsnowshower · 24/12/2013 12:03

Good luck! We do like to joke about this but it is not funny when it is happening. Hope you feel better in time for Christmas. Might be worth trying to find out what has caused it, see if you need to change diet or something x

ILoveGlyfada · 24/12/2013 12:04

Please don't wait any longer, go to A&E asap!

scripsi · 24/12/2013 12:04

I also think you need to go to A&E rather than bombing your system with more of the same. I would do it early today rather than later (with it being Christmas Eve).

ppeatfruit · 24/12/2013 12:12

Do you eat 'wholemeal wheat bread'? if you do STOP immediately and cut out anything made with wheat . You could be allergic to it. Iam and get the same effect from it. I don't touch it now. (i always know if I do Grin) Good luck!

Pixiedust1973 · 24/12/2013 12:15

I have to wait for my partner to get back from picking up my dad first before I can go anywhere anyway. It took him half hour to get what usually takes 10 minutes to drive to. :( Hopefully the rest of the journey will be quicker. I would imagine he'll be a minimum of 3 or 4 hours. GP could feel hardness but said it wasn't really high up. Must be quite high as I can't even drink anything without wanting to puke now. Would a hot bath be a good idea do you think?

How often do you normally have your bowels open?

Pixiedust1973 · 24/12/2013 12:17

I have always suffered to some degree, but have recently been on codeine tablets so they are he culprit here I would say. Don't really eat wholemeal bread much ppeatfruit. Can't eat anything now anyway. :( Maybe ill lose some weight.. Every cloud eh?

poor you, have you tried exericse?
i hope you get sorted out swiftly

IHaveSeenMyHat · 24/12/2013 12:27

Exercise? If you've ever been badly, BADLY constipated you'll know you'd feel too wretched to walk around the block!

Pixiedust1973 · 24/12/2013 12:28

I think its beyond anything like that now sadly.. Wish I could postpone Christmas. At least my kids aren't here I suppose.

You have my full sympathy. I was like this after having DD - I definitely think it was the codeine (had CS) that bunged me up so badly. I felt bloody awful & drained of energy the whole time.

I went 10 days without going & the HV was talking about readmitting me Sad

In the end I had to 'help' the impacted stuff out & after that everything started moving.

I then couldn't stop going because of all the meds I'd taken! Felt soooooo much better almost instantly though!

Good luck, I hope you get it sorted.

SauvignonBlanche · 24/12/2013 12:30

Some people regularly go every other day, or once a week, everyone's different.
Codeine can have that effect.

Bonsoir · 24/12/2013 12:30

A long brisk walk and several litres of iced sparkling water. Only eat raw apples and oranges (whole fruit).

HavingAnOffDAy · 24/12/2013 12:31

And yes to a bath.

My HV advised me to take 2 paracetamols & have a warm bath. Massaging your tummy in a clockwise motion - sorry Grin - should help too.

Pixiedust1973 · 24/12/2013 12:33

A walk is out of the question. I can't even leave the house right now. Have been drinking water constantly to no avail. Its got really stupid now. Im resigned to the fact ill be going to A&E later. :(

Ok, thanks HavingAnOffDAy , will go run a bath. :)

Califig works wonders.

Pixiedust1973 · 24/12/2013 12:35

Am dreading when it finally does get going. Im supposed to be spending tomorrow at my mother in laws with 5 other people & one toilet. Supposed to be spending the night too in DP's old room which is nowhere near the toilet. Think id rather stay home.

DrunkenDaisy · 24/12/2013 12:41

Double espresso and a fag?

tribpot · 24/12/2013 12:43

Ugh Pixie, you can't be doing that. Whether things have moved on or not, you need to be at home.

Viviennemary · 24/12/2013 12:44

I know you've tried a few things. But Syrup of figs is quite good. But you should definitely see your GP and get somebody to look at your diet.

schroedingersdodo · 24/12/2013 12:45

Massage and some stretching/yoga (if you can exercise) while you wait to go to a&e.

GoingGoingGoth · 24/12/2013 12:45

Hope the bath helps OP, it always did for my DD and used to have horrendous constipation.
