The grossest Mooncup-related question ever: really, do not read if averse to TMI and a bit squeamish

IIRC, it's only about a few tablespoons or so of blood (I think!) and a lot of other stuff.

Iklboo · 05/07/2006 13:56

It's a mixture of some blood & a lot of mucus. I suppose it varies from person to person. Mine goes from brownish discharge to watery bloody stuff to a bit darker/thicker and then back again (I don't use a mooncup yet though) during the course of AF

sounds normal to me - it's uterine lining not just blood so can be v different

[more tmi alert]
check it doesn't smell funny though - smelly watery discharge is worth a gp trip.

[extra double tmi alert]
wait a couple of days and it will probably be dark and clotted and lumpy

charliecat · 05/07/2006 13:57

If youve only just came on wait til tommorow, you also may have rinsed it before you put it in and diluted the blood with the water?
Mines not watery IIRC but im thinking it could be at the start of a period.

I think mooncups are fantastic too. In fact if I didn't think I'd be arrested, I'd stand by the tampon section in Sainsburys and try to persuade other women to try one! I love never having to buy or cart around sanitary protection!

harpsichordcarrier · 05/07/2006 14:03

hello pruni
yes there's a lot of mucus and stuff too.

PrettyCandles · 05/07/2006 14:03

Varies a lot IME. Can be thin, pale and brownish/quite liquidy and red/thick, gloopy and purpley at various times in teh cycle.

Are you really comfy with it first time? Wow, lucky you - took me months to get used to it.

harpsichordcarrier · 05/07/2006 14:04

I am quite keen to get a mooncup actually but since I learned what one was (on here, natch) I haven't had a period
can I borrow your's pruni

charliecat · 05/07/2006 14:09

I had to go out for my driving lesson with it in sideways LOL

OMG! Is this my 15m of fame!?

charliecat · 05/07/2006 14:18

Was thinking I was gonna have to get dp home from work with the pliers

shimmy21 · 05/07/2006 14:21

I'm a bit tempted to try one.
can I ask what on earth you do in a public loo???

NotQuiteCockney · 05/07/2006 14:24

I used to use a bit of sponge and some dental floss ... but public loos foxed me, as you really did have to rinse it out.

I probably should consider a mooncup, but am hoping pelvic floors will start working properly again and then won't need tampons or mooncup.

Nanou1 · 05/07/2006 14:32

charliecat!!!! was caught laughing my head off at work reading your note. and they all wanted to know what was so funny . how did the driving lesson go? i would never have been to concentrate!!!! did you hit a lamppost?
LOL LOL LOL a question to all if i may... am very tempted on using mooncup but found since dd's birth that tampons don't seem to want to stay "put" anymore so have resigned myself to sanitory towels - gosh this is all very personal!!!. my question is: would i have the same problem with mooncup? thanks guys!

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 05/07/2006 14:32

shimmy, I'm yet to take the plunge, as it were, but I once asked that very same question - some people said that it wouldn;t harm not to rinse it; some said they carry water round (ie just a bottle of drinking water) and give it a slosh with that; the other option, I giess, would be to nip into a disable loo as they usually have a sink in the same room

Mooncups ROCK!

Flamesparrow · 05/07/2006 14:42

Anyone about who is using one after a baby gap... Is it like riding a bike, or am I going to have to go through the whole learning how to get it in right again???
