Doctor says "Do it"; Dentist says "Don't"! What do I do?

It's use Corsadyl mouthwash (I have bad ulcers)

So who do I believe & why?

Why does the dentist think you shouldn't? I thought it was a medicated mouthwash so surely would have the approval of a dentist too?

i would trust the dentist over the doctor on this one..... did either of them explain why/why not?

Dentist here. I'd say not. If you've used corsadyl you'll know why. It's soooo strong and astringent. Can really irritate. Is stick with peroxyl or hot salt water.

Dentists are oral specialists so that's who I'd go with. My mother was once told to only use hot salt water for some problem, she used something else and the dentist could tell.

Use cinnamon flavoured gum for mouth ulcers. You might be able to find some on Amazon or in a shop that sells US imported foods/candy.

Believe the dentist, it is a mouth question and the dentist is a specialist in that area. The GP isn't unless they have a special interest .

Optometrist here. I know far more about eyes than most GPs. I would think the dentist would also know more about mouths than most GPS. Go with the dentist!

mathan cinnamon is a significant cause of oral ulceration, cinnamonaldehyde being an irritant. I'm not certain that's great advice. Horses for courses though.

Paying my bill at the dentist's, I was earwigging a conversation between a member of staff and a dental sales rep concerning Corsodyl. The staff member mentioned the large number of complaints they had regarding teeth staining by Corsodyl users.

They are infected (this week) last week they were an allergy so I'm taking Doxycycline & antihistamines

Liquorice is also a good healer for ulceration. Preferably a tincture that you can add to water, swish around your mouth and swallow.

I'd be going with the dentists advice on this one.

I use salt water gargles for bad ulcers. There was a topical ointment called adcortyl in orabase that was amazing. I'm not sure if it's only available on prescription now or discontinued. Ask your dentist.

It sounds hellish, go back to the dentist if it doesn't improve by the weekend.

Adcortyl isn't available either on or off prescription

I use salt (ouch!) - never tried liquorice....I'll see if I can find some
