New thread !!

OP posts:
weebarra · 17/10/2013 19:56

Yay handbags! That sounds tough malt, and handholding and boxsitting for your wait gigs.
Well, I do have Grade 3 BC in both breasts. Looks as though I will have to have mx on right side as lots of it, and in the lymph nodes but only a little on the left so might get away with a lumpectomy.
Having the genetics screen and depending on how that comes back, cons may recommend bilateral mx.
Chemo first though, starting pretty soon as long as nothing bad comes back from today's tests - radiologist already confirmed liver ok, so just waiting for results of chest xray and bone scan.
Back in on monday for "the plan" - docs do like a good plan don't they?!
thanks for all your support.

Gigondas · 17/10/2013 20:06

There is news- need chemo as movement in lungs and bones (which is causing swelling).it is outpatient tho and I can go to Paris which is good.

Am ok about it now I know. Maybe we can be chemo buddies wee. That's good about your results do far.

kitkat1967 · 17/10/2013 20:16

boo hoo for your news Gigs but at least there is a plan and you do get to go to Tesco Paris next week. Are they suggesting starting before you go Shock or are they letting you have your hols first?

glad you got your results too Weebarra - you're right they like a plan but in my experience a plan is a good thing and you'll feel better once you get it. Good that liver is clear.

It's probably too soon for you to think about but I'd be seriously considering the bmx if it was an option (I had 1 side done at end of Aug) - there are lots of plus points but of course it is not for everyone.

Gigondas · 17/10/2013 20:29

No I can start when I get back which is good news as that was a concern (like topsy I knew chemo was due at some point so not a shock).

kitkat1967 · 17/10/2013 20:31

that's good then - make sure you enjoy your hols.

Do you know the details of your chemo yet - what and for how long or is that something to find out when you see the onc?

malteserzz · 17/10/2013 20:35

Sorry to hear that gigs but I'm pleased you can still go to Paris, will be a nice break before you start Smile

jchocchip · 17/10/2013 20:44

Sorry to hear your news gigs I know you say it is not a shock but it is still :( to have to have more treatment so soon. Lots of french treats prescribed...Cake Wine

topsyturner · 17/10/2013 20:48

Oh feckitty bollocks Gigs !
What kind of chemo this time ?
Are you going to have the inpatient one again ?

Weebarra yes the surgeons and the oncs love a good plan !
How many and what type if chemo for you ?

Malt am a bit Envy of your slanket !

DH home from work , and did his usual trick of pissing everyone off within 30 seconds of walking through the front door !
(Did I tell you I'm grumpy and spotty at the mo ???)

amberlight · 17/10/2013 20:51

Gigs, oh grr, though pleased that you get to go to Tesco still. If you can, remind me which type of this rudely behaved one you have - there are around 50 sorts and there are interesting snippets of news on some of them...

Gigondas · 17/10/2013 20:59

I do t know exact regime but it's two types a week apart and it's outpatient chemo.

Amber - there was some confusion about whether it was spindle cell or fibromyxosarcoma ( see how much attention I pay to detail -also Never read medical letters as it distresses). I think one of main things in my favour is my age as sarcoma tends to be a very young or very old persons cancer.

I will lose my hair so scarf and wig time for me.

And I can be chemo buddy to anyone else starting in November.

Gigondas · 17/10/2013 21:00

Think they think it's the latter amber

Shootingatpigeons · 17/10/2013 21:01

Shit gigs, the bugger, it would have been nice if it held off longer but at least you have a plan, and a trip to Paris. What is the plan, how frequently, will you have good weeks for outings we can get on with planning?

Topsy Must be something in the air. DH going for complete arse this evening. Not me at all, not grump or hairy can recommend epilator which gets rid of them for weeks

Weebarra Glad you have a little more certainty, though another bugger

handbags and really another set of twinnies [welcome]

reallyreallyworried · 17/10/2013 21:09

Sorry to hear your news gigs. Will probably be joining you with Chemo in Nov. Have appointment with Oncologist on the 30th Oct. Currently enjoying being back at work Smile was pleased to have 2 whole weeks without hospital appointments. A chance to be 'nomal' but the truth is as soon as I sit down for 5mins, it's the only thing on my mind Sad xxx

BetsyBoop · 17/10/2013 21:15

oh buggery bollocks gigs :( but glad you can still make your tesco visit.

weebarra - it's honestly better once you get a plan, it's like you gain a bit of the control back after a few weeks in freefall :)

Gigondas · 17/10/2013 21:30

Ooh really that's not a shock that you think about it but it will fee
Better when you are treated.

Pigeons should have good weeks and on bad weeks will be around fir coffee .

Marshy · 17/10/2013 21:34

Evening all,

Just catching up with updates. Good that some of the waiting is done and plans forming.

How long will you be in Paris gigs?

amberlight · 17/10/2013 21:42

Gigs, ha! I think it's renamed myxofibrosarcoma now and there's been very interesting new research about something called ASS1 (no, really, that's it's name!) clincancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/19/11/2861.abstract refers. They have to use 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine to boost the ASS1 levels, which is the protein that your sort of rude bits is short of.
I think it trades under the name of Decitabine and is currently used for other rude sorts. Trial stuff, but interesting.

Might be worth pushing that in front of the specialists and see if they nod/faint/sigh.

Tiny100 · 17/10/2013 21:52

Thanks all for the tips, they will be put to the test tomorrow.

KitKat - I am so glad that I spotted your post before heading out of the door, as I was going to go for a pixie cut. Although I have now gone short there is length there on top, so I have some wiggle room if I get a few patches that I need to cover.

Betsy - Not sure why it is just the EC. I know my BC is not hormone receptive so that maybe why. (Still awaiting my HER2 results - if not then I guess it must be triple neg.)

Handbags - Whoop, Whoop, blurt away, this is great news.

Weebara - You will feel better once you have a plan in place. Sounds like we will be doing chemo around the same time, I start my course tomorrow.

Gigs Sorry about your news, but here's to Paris, sounds like you have earned this holiday ten times over.

weebarra · 17/10/2013 21:58

Gigs and Tiny - yes looks like we will be chemo buddies.
Don't know what type yet but will be getting 6 cycles, 3 weeks apart.

kitkat1967 · 17/10/2013 22:14

Tiny - I went for short with some length on top and I think Malt kept hers at bob length.
I was also wondering why you aren't get the 'F' part - I think the E is the red wee bit so watch out for that Smile. I wonder if you'll get less SEs.
Also I don't think anyone mentioned to get a silk pillow case (Malt and I got one off Amazon) - no panic though as nothing will happen on the hair front for several weeks.

foofooyeah · 17/10/2013 22:46

Thanks amber loads of grim news about but ASS1 make me giggle.

gigs good luck with your next round of chemo and enjoy tescos first.

weeb I kept my hair as a bob, chemo #3 next week and still have hair but its a bit thinner. Used horrid cold cap and also try not handle hair. Don't wash for as long as you can afterwards.

I wasn't sure whether to mention it on here but i lost old friend to he dreaded C on Tuesday. Same age as me, known her for over 20 years, and our eldest children are the same age. She was diagnosed same time as me and died much earlier than expected. I'm not saying what type of C out of respect to her and people in this group. One reason for sharing this is that I had on my list of things to do: ' go and see X '. I didn't manage to do that. So my message is: don't put off seeing people, go see them tomorrow.

foofooyeah · 17/10/2013 22:59

Sorry not sure I should have put that last post. Hope I have not upset anyone. Been a tearful couple of days.

jchocchip · 17/10/2013 23:01

Aw foofoo. sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

PictureThis · 17/10/2013 23:06

Oh bloody hell Gigs how rude of it to be on the moveAngry but yaay for Paris Tesco. I've been thinking of you a lot over the last couple of days, have a marvellous time in France Tesco.

Another grumpy DH here too. He's been in a foul mood since he came in from work, thank God he's gone to bed.

Foofoo I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

smee · 17/10/2013 23:22

Oh foofoo, that's sad. Sad Must have hit you to hear that. ((((gentle hugs))))

Gigs, am right-royally-*-off for you, though mighty glad it won't stop you going away. More chemo might have always been on the cards, but it's still bloody tough. xx

weeb, good to (nearly) have a plan. You must have a lot reeling round in your head. Ask us anything you want to. Will keep all crossed for clear scan results. I'd bet they will be okay. Smile

Hope it goes alright tomorrow, Tiny. You'll feel loads better once you've started.

Marshy, try and get some sleep tonight. Will keep all crossed for the best news tomorrow. Smile

Hope you're okay, Malt. Are you on steroids? Can't remember, but if so, am sending you sleepy vibes.

Bonnie Greer on QT's fab. Do love her. DH keeps shouting at the tv, but not at her. Good job too, or he'd be off the sofa. Grin
