Has anyone ever tried to market the "Drink 4 litres of Water a Day" diet, because if not I think they should

I have to drink 4l of fluid a day atm (ivf related shenanigans).
I haven't been hungry in days, or able to finish a plate of food.
Sadly I feel there is no money in this idea...... Grin
Is it a crap idea?

flushing out

FlameBoo · 20/06/2006 08:27

I really should drink more water anyway... I like the bottle of water with you at all times idea.

fairyjay · 20/06/2006 08:54

So funny to see this thread. I know I've lost weight before when I've drunk lots of water, and this morning I thought to myself (jokingly) that I'd drink 4 lts. a day until my holiday!! Grin
If I'm in the office I can drink the water, but if I'm out and about I forget! Managed the first 50 cl so far.

spook · 20/06/2006 09:09

It is so funny that this thread came up today. I was going to start one asking for help to up my water intake! I drink approximately NO water Blush
I can honestly say the only liquids to pass my lips daily are coffee and wine.
My BF is constantly nagging me about it. I must be like a dried up old husk inside. (and outside come to mention it)

fairyjay · 20/06/2006 09:19

Right spook - that's you and me both. I'm sat here with a bottle beside me, and it's coming everywhere with me today. By the end of the week I'll look great in a bikini Grin Dream on!!

MeAndMyBoy · 20/06/2006 09:35

Fairyjay I'm impressed 50cl already!!! I haven't even touched my bottle yet.

If you don't drink any water at the moment rather than trying to go from none to 2l's in a day you could try and build it up slowly - so aim for 50cl's over the next couple of days and then increase that to a litre by Sunday and then increase over the next week until 2l by 2 weeks today - you won't end up on the loo as often as your body will adjust a little bit more slowly and it won't feel like such a mountain to do :).

spook · 20/06/2006 09:38

OK-thanks girls. Lets report back later on how we're doing. I have had 3 coffees so far and no water. Will go and buy a bottle now. Is one of the big bottles a day ok?
50cl Fairyjay-RESULT!!!

FlameBoo · 20/06/2006 09:58

Found a 1 ltr bottle... will let you know how I get on!

norah · 20/06/2006 10:21

You have to drink 4 litres at least per day with Lighterlife - I did it last winter and to be honest after about a month my bladder had really adapted - I could drink a litre and then get in the car for an hours drive without having to stop ! Skin was fantastic and I felt so much healthier !

But have reverted to bad habits now and hardly drink any !

I think you can drink TOO much - but it's over 8 litres I think. It is a fantastic detox !

MeAndMyBoy · 20/06/2006 10:51

One of the reasons you do need to drink so much when you are dieting is to help your kidneys flush out all the toxins that are being released by burning your body fat. Also the bigger you are the more it's recommended that you drink.

4l's Shock I really don't think I could manage that much - 2l's is about my max. What were your results like on lighterlife?

ponygirl · 20/06/2006 10:56

I'm going to try and drink 2l a day. I'm usually like spook: just tea and alcohol! Blush Could do with losing some weight too...

I've put a 2l bottle of water in the fridge and will try and drink all of it today. Refill tomorrow etc. Of course, I famously have no will power, so we'll see...

Pruni · 20/06/2006 11:18

Where did all this drinking water advice spring from anyway? I'm pretty sure it's a nineties thing.

I am intrigued now to know just how much I do drink per day. I have a 2 litre bottle of tap water upstairs, so I don't have to come down when I need a drink. I reckon I get through most of that in a day. Probably about as much again drunk downstairs. I am guessing I drink 3 litres. But my skin is not all that, to be honest. Maybe it would be a lot worse if I didn't drink so much water? :)

Pruni · 20/06/2006 11:40

Gah. Have managed about half a litre so far. Am slightly losing the will to live.

MeAndMyBoy · 20/06/2006 11:46

Pruni - stick with the 1/2l that's an achievement if you don't normally drink much water at all.

Leave it for today and then do the 1/2l again tomorrow.

You can add squash in to some of it - just not all as it would increase your calorie intake quite a bit and defeat the object of losing weight lol.

My Gran always drinks lot of water, so think it's been around for years, but is pushed more now cause like fruit and veg - lots of people just don't get enough, and some weight gain can be used by water retention caused by not drinking enough water.

Pruni · 20/06/2006 12:24

no I have to do 4l to "flush my ovaries" or something!
ivf is a bloody palaver I tell you

After reading \link{http://www.weightwatchers.co.uk/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=8101\this}, I endeavour to drink at least 4 pints a day. I'm losing weight and I feel more energised. I also no longer keep running to the toilet every 5 minutes so you do get use to it.

spook · 20/06/2006 12:38

Oh feck. Just got back and forgot to buy any water so consequently so far today have had-none.
I will go and drink some tap water-yack.
Then I will return in a few minutes to polish my hydrated halo (and probably have a wee)

ernest · 20/06/2006 12:41

well I've decided to go for it too. I've got a 700ml bottle so have decided to drink 1 every 2 hours till 6 (so I've got plents of time to get rid of that, don't want to be weeing all night). That's 6 x 700, ie 4.2 L. So far drunk 4 bottles full. And been on loo constantly.

btw top tip -
mil told off by her doc for not drinking water (she's a big tea drinker) and his suggestion was she had a glass of water every time she made herself a cuppa & it seems to be working for her.

spook · 20/06/2006 12:43

People tell me to do that with wine Ernest but I always feel that would be wasting valuable wine time and energy.
Still not had any.....going now Blush

ernest · 20/06/2006 12:56

oh yes, I agree. but with tea during day it's easier. Just neck a glass quick while the kettle's boiling

not had any what yet - tea, wine or water?

spook · 20/06/2006 13:00

Water. Just had a glass. Its like torture.

JonesTheSteam · 20/06/2006 13:03

I don't drink anywhere near enough water. Think I might join in as well - off to hunt for a litre bottle - think there's one in the picnic bag from the weekend.

ernest · 20/06/2006 14:00

oh go on spook. get it down yer... There beeps my alarm for my 5th bottle of the day. hic

suejonez · 20/06/2006 14:04

You sure they're not just winding you up Pruni?! I had three cycles of IVF and don't remember any advice like that.
