Morning all, new thread, croissants on trolley, and I'll put a brew on.

Goodness me Gig - how did you dredge that up.

I went to see Tom Jones in 2000 but by then there was a large amount of corsetry involved in his outfit and thankfully no stripping.

Whilst the tone is suitably lowered I should take the opportunity to report that I had a very nice male nurse working both the nights that I was in hospital - certainly brightened the stay up Smile.

kitkat1967 · 04/09/2013 19:42

My browser won't open that latest link - I suspect it is probably good news for me. Am starting to worry about how Gig spends her time.

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 04/09/2013 19:56

What was I thinking, reading about bowel cancer on Wikipedia Hmm sometimes I think I'm deliberately trying to scare myself Confused as I feel weird that I've never had much anxiety or upset about it all.

gigs yuck! Last Xmas I saw a Cliff calendar, twelve half naked pics of him, what a treat... I turned it round on the shelf so no one else would be traumatised.

amber you're very reassuring, thank you, selfishly hoping some of the new things will work for bowel cancer too! :)

betsy sorry you're having an even worse time on the tax! Definitely tell them all the side effects you've had, I had to have dose adjustments and things, they need to strike a balance between zapping cancer and making you too ill :)

topsyturner · 04/09/2013 20:00

Gigs !!!!
Stop posting Lord Sir Tom and The Sloop B !!!
You can get enough of a good thing ... GrinGrinGrin

topsyturner · 04/09/2013 20:01

And Ruby if you keep looking for medical facts on Wikipedia , I'm going to have to suspend your Internet privileges !

topsyturner · 04/09/2013 20:04

KK sorry to hear about your DS and his partner and their jobs .
I was reading about the prisons closing today , and the new one that is (apparently) going to be built to replace them .
Really hope they get so
Etching soon .

Eco bastard nodes !
I had something like 14/17 (is it bad that I can't actually remember ?) with nasties in them .

Waves frantically at Smee
Missed you !!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/09/2013 20:05

oh God, old men with dyed hair - dreadful.. also his transatlantic accent bugs me. Ditto Paul Macartney.

PictureThis · 04/09/2013 20:10

Oh I love you lot, You know just the right things to say to put the fear back in the box even if it took a picture of Cliff to raise a laugh. Gigs I agree, who buys his stuff? One of life's mysteries.
Needless to say DaughterofEMIN My thoughts are with you and your family.
Ecori 10 of my nodes were affected and I'll be having a full node clearance after my chemo finishes in Oct/Nov but as Kurri says, one step at a time.

Malt I've just seen the Downton trailer....oh too excited, I love it. As an aside, Whitechapel is on tonight, bit partial to that too.

DH and I watched GBBO last night, laughed a lot at custardgate and yes Howard does look like an Aardman creation but can I just say.....how annoying is Ruby's voice?! I'm sure she's a lovely person but my God her monotone is beyond unbearable.

malteserzz · 04/09/2013 20:28

I am disappointed I thought it was going to be the other orange one, the one who really really loves his children Grin
Beautiful evening here just been for a walk with dh

malteserzz · 04/09/2013 20:29

Loved it gigs ! Don't think he's got a 6 pack like that these days
Watched another quality programme earlier, dinner date ! They actually ended up dating at the end too

They haven't said when downton is on yet just coming soon

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 04/09/2013 21:33

I'm beginning to think I might be safer if you suspend my Internet privileges topsy, if gigs continues to share links! Grin

I had some exciting news, I've been selected to go to a fashion workshop thingy in London :) just trying to work out if I will really be well enough to go up to London next week...

I've had an appalling headache all day and my temp went up to 38.2 so I've been moping around feeling pathetic Hmm

KK forgot to say, bugger about DS and DDIL's jobs, especially as they haven't had the best luck lately have they :( I hope they get new jobs sorted soon, hopefully something they love even more :)

malteserzz · 04/09/2013 21:34

Am also looking forward to educating yorkshire tomorrow night, enjoyed educating Essex when that was on. Will then ask dd if her school is like that or maybe I won't want to know !

SparkleRainbow · 04/09/2013 21:34

Oh Daughter of Emin, I am so sorry for your loss, and though I know no words will lessen your pain, or fill that void, I hope that to know her special spirit is with so many others, and their families, helps, she is with us still. All our love. X

I was watching the children play in the sunshine today, and wondered at the wonderful innocence of the first day of term, their enjoyment of the warm autumn sunshine, their open happy faces ready to learn, and become the wonderful people they will be. So hard to see such things on a day when you know the same day is filled with sadness for others, but it struck me how important it is to fight for these things and enjoy these moments, these are just a few of the things in life we fight for. My candle is lit for Earth, but my spirit still tries to soar to respect and honour her.

Remind me of this when I have to take ds to London next week, to start a new chapter of support for my little boy, now 10, who has been in pain ever day since 16th September 2009, and we still wait for certain people within the nhs to even attempt to help.

Waves to sometimes and kurri

malteserzz · 04/09/2013 21:37

Ruby fashion thing sounds exciting what exactly do you get to do ? Hope you will be well enough Smile

Gigondas · 04/09/2013 21:39

I aim to please/ nauseate.

SparkleRainbow · 04/09/2013 21:39

Sparkle waves ridiculously to MAS - how are you doing?

Gigondas · 04/09/2013 21:40

Sometimes that is a lovely post - you are right about appreciating every good thing.

Do keep us posted about ds as I think of him often. Is this the gosh appointment ?

Gigondas · 04/09/2013 21:43

Sparkle Blush- sorry being dopey. All I can say is if his specialist next week is of same calibre as people who sorted me out(which I hope they are), then I think ds is in great hands.

My bil is neurologist so I know that the specialist are there but often centred on the special/ London hospital so harder to get hold of. I have my now pain free fingers and toes crossed.

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 04/09/2013 21:44

sparkle that is very true. I find so much pleasure it simple things like that, and I think it has helped me find this illness easier. Every night when I'm grumpily trekking back and forth to the bathroom I catch a glimpse of the night sky through our landing window, it is always so beautiful and often I end up standing there marvelling at it and forgetting all about everything :)

I'm so sorry the NHS are doing little to help, and that your son is in so much pain, I can't imagine how difficult it must be. I hope next week is successful and he is able to get the help he needs.

malt it's an evening workshop type event, there's a magazine editor and a fashion designer, they will talk about their jobs and about the latest fashions, and how to choose things that suit your personal style, and also how to care for your clothes (event is sponsored by Ecover!) I've never been to anything like that before! :)

SparkleRainbow · 04/09/2013 21:59

Gig - not GOSH yet, this is a paed EDS specialist, who may be able to help with pain management and will be able to support neuro referral. Important we see her, another step on the road for ds, unfortunately we have to pay privately cos her nhs waiting list is about 18 months and our local service rheumie won't refer to her because he fears he won't look good if he does, even our GP has given up on local service and just talking to London drs seen privately.

LadyBeagleEyes · 04/09/2013 22:00

So, back from the hospital today and I've been prescribed Capecitibine, 4 tablets a day for two weeks then a week's break with 6 sessions to look forward to.
I'm still confused as though I expected chemo, I was told that there would be hormonal therapy too since the primary came from the breast.
Mine is in the lungs and also in the liver, though I have Hep c and in that regard she told me my liver was healthy considering.
I won't lose my hair, my very silly and vain dread, but I still feel i know nothing.
I need to talk to someone don't I, a Macmillan nurse or my GP.
I don't think i took anything in today TBH, my sister offered to come and my friend but I feel i asked all the wrong questions.
Anyone here with a secondary that has had oral chemo?

SparkleRainbow · 04/09/2013 22:01

RubyTuesday - Enjoy those stars, I will think of you now when I go out and watch them with my ds, he loves star gazing, we shall find one for you and name it appropriately!
