It's an odd bug

He is exhausted, is being sick but intermittently more as a reaction to a temperature or shaking & he is sweating (it's not hot here)

He looks awful, no diarrhoea but going to the loo often, feeling queasy

He doesn't really get 'tummy bugs' and the few times he has had one (over the last 20 yrs or so) he has been fine within 6-10 hours - this has been going on since Sunday evening.

He has chronic asthma & lung disease (Bronchiectasis) so takes a lot of drugs and I'm a bit worried but I'm not sure why, something I can't quite put my finger on

Hope it all goes ok today. I've had plenty of endoscopies (camera up botty) with a bit of pethadine. Not pleasant, very undignifying as always done by a gorgeous Dr. I've always been awake enough to see my insides, rather surreal, but never noticed quite how many people are in the room with me.

Just be aware that picolax might carry on working and affect him after he's eaten tonight! That's what happened to ds1, but he wad only 3 so was able to use the potty in the middle of the city where the procedure was done! The prep for colonoscopy was much worse than the procedure. Hope he's okay.

digerd · 12/08/2013 08:52

What time does he have to be back in hospital today?

KatyMac · 12/08/2013 08:58

Back at 1:30, second dose at 7:00

I've been able to book time off (fortunately) to go with him

Un dignified as it might be - id put a sanitary towel in his knickers as he might be able to control much after that 2nd dose. Remind him some people pay a fortune for clonic irrigation GrinGrin

I think the thought is far worse than the procedure.

Do they 'pressure washer' the whole of the lower intestines before the endoscopy so it is spick and span for the mirror to be able to see everything clearly? Just a thoughtHmm.

It is quite a long time to be waiting in hospital from 1.30 -7pm. And when will the actual deeds be able to be done?

Roll on tomorrow when it's all over and he can eat again Smile

KatyMac · 12/08/2013 17:10

I'll ask him about the pressure washer

Sorry he had the 2nd dose at 7am & went in at 1:30

However he is still here

3 polyps in in his stomach & a test for Helicobacter pylori
2 polyps in his bowel & a few diverticula

The polyps have been biopsied & there was nothing significant that have caused last week

OP posts:
KatyMac · 12/08/2013 18:37

& he did have a pressure washer

OP posts:
notapizzaeater · 12/08/2013 18:53

That's a relief ..... Grin

KatyMac · 12/08/2013 19:10

I guess so

However apart from knowing that neither his gall bladder, liver, stomach nor bowel caused last weeks symptoms we are no further forward finding out what did & preventing it - so it could reoccur at any time.

Which is possibly unduly pessimistic

digerd · 12/08/2013 19:17

That's a relielf 7am not pm. Thought he'd be having the endos around midnight!!

Is he home now? < happy and ravenous?>

notapizzaeater · 12/08/2013 19:53

If he's iron defienct did they Check for coeliac when looking at bowel ? Often the first symptom in people.

KatyMac · 12/08/2013 21:07

They took a biopsy for coeliac I think

How is dh now ?

KatyMac · 18/08/2013 07:42

Drained & a bit grumpy

He is 'uncomfortable' which is as much a discription of pain as we ever get

He is eating better - but not on top form

He hasn't replaced the weight he lost & his bowels are a bit irratic

How much of where he is now is due to recovery from the anti-biotics & procedures, I don't know.

Thank you for asking

OP posts:
KatyMac · 18/08/2013 10:20

But then he hads a little tooth 'niggle' which was an abcess that needed a root canal so maybe his perception of pain is off
