Hello all! New thread as we have almost filled the last one. Help yourself to chocolate chip muffins from the trolley! :)

OP posts:
topsyturner · 05/08/2013 18:31

No knowledge of GOSH , other than the fact that a friend of mine has just had her referral for her baby turned down for the second time . And us now having to pay privately to see the exact same consultant that has just turned her down !
Naturally , he is more than willing to see her once she waved some money at him !

Gigondas · 05/08/2013 18:34

No personal knowledge but I do know that gosh works alongside the national neurology hospital which is right next door so it is absolutely the best place to be.

Talking of which spoke to surgeon about my back op earlier ( having worked myself up about it). He was very calm and reassuring - said op not so urgent that cant wait til post holiday. However i do need MRI to assess what is going on with tumour damage as ct scan good on bones only ( I guessed this). Until this done cant decide what type of bionic rod/ cage I need.

Had a bit of wobble after as thought of op hit homeSad. Luckily lovely mr gig and nanny cheered me up and we did some retail therapy at outlet place ( Envy malt?). New handbag , tops from joules and some Lindt for later ( which will share).

Sanity restored and having a cheeky Wine while mr gig cooks.

How was wig fitting malt?

Copthallresident · 05/08/2013 18:57

I would second what gigs said. I did get referred to a sleep clinic they ran there with Big Copt and had a very positive experience including of neurological tests, but that was 21 years ago and it fell victim to cuts long ago. A very good friend (one of bc buddies Sad) has a DD with severe dyspraxia and epilepsy and she was really upset when she became too old to be treated there and had to be referred next door. They don't ever seem to have got her epilepsy as well controlled as GOSH did. She is a nurse and thinks that they knew her so well and treated her as a person whereas at the grown up unit they seem more concerned with using the latest most fashionable drug regimes, and that has resulted in some traumatic side effects. I also had a work colleague whose son was treated for a terminal brain tumour there and it was GOSH who diagnosed him after all the other hospitals had been giving them the run around for months. She was really grateful for the level of care and the support he received there and the sensitive way in which they supported and handled their feelings as parents.

I hope you are alright. I am sure that GOSH are even more used than most hospitals to meltdowns.

gigs Does anyone take ops in their stride without even a wobble? but it sounds like they are doing what is needed to get you right again.

I am in Shock as little Copt spent the day cleaning up the student squalor. I await Big Copts account of what this cleaning actually achieved......... Very quiet, and eerie here Sad

malteserzz · 05/08/2013 19:29

Sparkle no experience here but thinking of you and sending calming vibes. Liked thought for the day Smile
Gigs yes jealous of shopping I've still only made it to the co op which doesn't quite cut it
Wig fitting went well, nice lady seemed un phased at my mini meltdown telling her why I was there but I was ok after that. Have gone for a very similar style to mine now, tried a longer one more similar to how my hair was but if didn't look so natural. Shes cut into it and I do like it, family were quite positive about it too Smile

Gigondas · 05/08/2013 20:06

Little Copt doesn't fancy trip round to ours? Wink

Tee shirt idea is a good one - I will buy one.

Gig sounds like wig shopping was a success.

Talking of which, I am promised a trip to the morrisons by mr gig. Cos I am in no way sad and like going to different supermarkets.

malteserzz · 06/08/2013 06:38

I like morrisons Smile
Am awake early but have slept all night so that's fine
I do feel bit happier now I have my wig, I wore it home and it was raining so my friend went to get an umbrella from the car. While I was waiting a man said oh that always happens to me, have my hair done and it rains ( he was bald and joking ) so I was quite pleased he didn't clock it was a wig

Gigondas · 06/08/2013 08:17

Grin At man that didn't notice but you really wouldn't know unless you got up close.

Took me ages to get to sleep last night as still bit wound up about the op. but we are off to morrisons to get picnic for the beach so a nice day out planned. Just have to remember to put my sun screen on as got burned on Sunday.

malteserzz · 06/08/2013 08:51

You're bound to be a bit wound up about it but good that you've got morrisons and the beach to take your mind off it a bit. Hope you have a good day Smile

SparkleRainbow · 06/08/2013 09:07

Thank you my lovelies. I will go and talk to gp about getting the referral. I need to do something to move ds forwards.

I am all right, I didn't sleep well as I rehashed a slowed down version of my verbal train crash..... but I will get over it, and it the words of Jane Austin, probably sooner than I should Wink

Gig - of course you are wobbly about the op, it would be surprising if you weren't. I do hope you get some more reassurance from the surgeon before it happens. Try and think of that lovely balcony! I hope you have a great day at the beach.

Malt - Grin at wig, rain and man.....very funny.

Copthallresident · 06/08/2013 10:46

gigs it is rotten to be facing yet another op but you have been so limited and it has been so depressing that if it is something they can fix it is going to make such a difference. Remember no spread so you do need to be able to get on with life. I was amazed at how well you had recovered when I first met you after first bionification. And I am looking forward to posh snacks on the balcony. [selfish]

I hope York has one of the mystical misty Morrisons, that was the holy grail of supermarkets, the one I visited was in Harrogate but would have thought York would be as posh. Sadly one in our High Street has opened but clearly they have decided we are not posh enough for misty herbs and vegetables, not so much as a sun dried tomato. Cheap opening half price offer on Cava though, it is very nice too, had a sample yesterday evening, rattling about in my eeriely quiet house.

I wouldn't get too excited about Little Copts cleaning, it will have been tentative and probably wholly ineffective but the point of it (though i think the point of cleaning has been overstated) may have dawned on her without the fog of "my mother is so mean making me do this" I asked why she had it this willingly and her reply was" because I am a guest" which is weird because I have commented many times that she behaves as if she thinks she is a guest in this house Confused

malt wig looks great, much better than mine . Grin at man, that just has to be fate thinking it had to give you a boost!

Thinking I might plan a trip to Stratford when little gigs returns, as seem to be seats for some good productions, not that I am going to spoil her when I get her back or anything.......back to my plants.....

amberlight · 06/08/2013 10:55

Gigs, Brew for you and for everyone else in need.
I see it as good news re back op. Given that's about 30k of op and stuff, another sign they're pretty confident of the results. But it'll be good to be the other side of it.
Malt, love the new wig!!

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/08/2013 11:01

So I had my Bronchoscopy on Thursday and am now waiting for the results.
The consultant said they will be sent to my GP, does anyone know how long it takes till the results usually take to come through?
I do find the waiting the worst.

topsyturner · 06/08/2013 13:39

Core biopsies can take up to 10 days LadyB
Not sure about broncoscopies .
Phone your gp and ask when you should be checking .
How are you feeling ?

Gigs the thought of any surgery is daunting , but like Amber said . They must be feeling quite confidant about you to want to do this surgery !
Is the Viking museum the one where you can smell what it was like to live in Viking times ?
(Apparently pure rank , bring a large bottle of perfume Grin )

Copthallresident · 06/08/2013 13:47

how it smelled to go for a poo topsy www.andreahendry.com/the_man_having_a_poo.jpg a lovely scenic multi sensory tour of the midden (as my mum used to call my room back in the 70s, she is a tad Viking)

Copthallresident · 06/08/2013 13:49

gigs 5 year olds love it!

Lady Beagle The waiting is the worst. I think if varies according to hospital processes but I would ring your GP to find out.

malteserzz · 06/08/2013 14:46

Waiting is the pits hope it's not too long ladyB

I remember the smell at Jorvik also the queues, if you dont prebook you spend longer in the queue than going round !

HerNextDoorAt21 · 06/08/2013 15:27

Hi folks I am in the day ward after my wee "fix the hole" surgery and will be home in time for tea .... Will know how successful the op was in a week or do x

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/08/2013 16:18

I AM HOME !!!! I don't have to go away again for a bit- so yay ! will catch up once we've sorted ourserlves xxx

kitkat1967 · 06/08/2013 17:24

Advice reqiured please......

I just need you to tell if I am being a drama queen or not?

So had chemo on Thursday but am still feeling really nauseous (and very fed up). As I've not actually been sick this time do I need to just get on with it and accept that it is not meant to be a walk in the park or should I tell the onc I need some more drugs?

At the moment I seriously don't know how I will get through the door next cycle as any thought of going in sets the nausea off and I am nearly in tears if I just think about it.

Also he may change me from FEC to T depending on MRI results - what's the view on the relative SEs?

amberlight · 06/08/2013 17:38

Suffer nothing. If you are very nauseous, ask for something for it. Definitely. Have you tried sea bands and sipping ginger beer? Made a difference for me.
I got on better with T than with FEC. Hardly any nausea at all. Though the fourth set of T was a s*d because I was tired by then. And there were worse diarrhoea effects/gastric pain around day 7, for me. But it was doable.

malteserzz · 06/08/2013 17:40

Kitkat I would ring and see if there's anything else they can give you I don't think you should still be feeling nauseous now Hmm I've read that the tax causes less sickness but has other SEs like bone aches, obviously not experienced it myself yet. How long did the nausea last last cycle ?

Mas yay to being home Smile
Hnd hope you're home now and comfortable

kitkat1967 · 06/08/2013 17:46

thanks both. DH reckons it lasted 6 days last time so hopefully will stop tomorrow or next day but the nausea seems worse this time.

I don't need to get anything now it's just whether to ask for something more for next time (already have Emend Sad) - don't want to be too pathetic.
On the plus side I have slept much better without the steroids.
Perhaps Tax will be my saviour (actual plan is to stick on FEC but MRI may change this).

BetsyBoop · 06/08/2013 17:52

kitkat - what drugs are you still taking (if any)? I got on much better last cycle with doing the ondanestron for longer - onc left it up to me when to stop and I did my last doses on the Thu a week after my chemo. (First cycle was only prescribed til the Monday and I had awful sickness again on the Tue). I was still a bit nauseaous but doable as long as I grazed all day!

Definitely ask for some more/different anti-emetics - I got them via my GP as it was easier than another trip to hospital - also they do ondanestron melts - which dissolve on your tongue which is easier if you are struggkling swallowing (and they don't taste too bad) ondanestron has the unfortunate SE of bunging me up good and proper though, so up your fibre/fluids!

feeling sick is crap :(

in the middle of cooking tea so will catch up with rest of thread later.

Gigondas · 06/08/2013 17:54

Kitkat there is more they should do so ring and ask. It's not enough just not to be sick.
I second amber advice about ginger - it does help.

Hnd- glad its done and fingers crossed that op worked . I have had a couple of tidy wound ops and they always worked well. But think topsy should be pouring you Wine to help recovery.

Thanks for all the sensible kind and lovely comments. Day at beach (and two morrisons trips as got dinner there too- well mr gig did while I was mesmerised by the dry ice vegetable Copt Grin).

I promise that the balcony will be open for op . Also I was rubbish about sorting meet up so we really should revive that idea I reckon .

Am now ConfusedShock as we are off to Jorvik tomorrow . It will be big gig thing if its about poo (a word she has taught mini gig).

BetsyBoop · 06/08/2013 17:55

x-post - I had Emend AND ondanestron AND I'm going to ask if there is more we can do for day 1 vomiting - it isn't being pathetic it's called not suffering more than you have to Grin
