My team of raccoons all finished their race for life in 45 mins, about double the time they managed last year but they did have a baby in a pushchair, some older aunts and 7yr old dd this time around.

They had pink portaloos at the start and a number of women were dressed as pink fairies, one deluded woman ran the whole way in a pink morph suit which looked very uncomfortable indeed. There was some extremely cringey cancer talk at the warm up which I ignored. Then a lot of dancing which teen nieces boycotted due to the one direction soundtrack (too uncool - even if you are dressed as a racoon holding a waterpistol). They all got a pink medal and came back to my house for a barbecue. A really fun day.

malteserzz · 21/07/2013 22:58

Well done raccoons ! Glad you had a good day trice

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/07/2013 22:58

Yep, rads varies from hosptital to hosp and whether they do a shorter but more intense dose, so between 15 - 25 - every day though the machines often break down, so sometimes get cancelled. The actual time of treatment is a few mins each session. No deo or scented stuff, and I was advised to use aqueous cream before and throughout. You may well burn afterwards too, so be aware that your skin may break down, though it heals pretty fast.

Nighty night. Much cooler this evening. +ve vibes for your scan gigs
Hope amber and mas have lovely holidays.

Was introduced to Morrisons when moved oop north 21 years ago. Was soo much cheaper and nicer than Sidcup Tescos! None in the midlands or south then, but my Mum has one now. There is a Morrisons local in Ilkley which I was rather fond of popping into for lunch. Not many shops where I work now, although suppose town centre Morrisoms is walkable at a push. Sorry am rambling. Will put rock buns on the trolley for breakfast. Best zappped warm.

jchocchip · 21/07/2013 23:02

Xpost. Well done indeed to the racoons. and a pink morph suit in this weather! Hmm

topsyturner · 21/07/2013 23:17

Yippee for the raccoons !
(Not a phrase I ever thought I would type Grin )

Rads - it just gets boring going to the same place , at the same time , every day for 4/6 weeks Malt !
The bit I was dreading most , was the getting naked from the waist up.
But after the first 1/2 sessions , you get quite blasé about it all .
And the rads people (in my hospital anyway) have actually been the nicest of all the clinic staff I have met
They knew I was nervous and uncomfortable about seeing me , and they made it all so much easier .

trice · 21/07/2013 23:34

The thing I hated most about radiation was that they tattooed dots on my chest to line up the machine. And I have to look at those dots every day even now five years later. I hate them. They did it so casually without even really asking. Pet peeve. Such a small thing but it made me feel like an object.

I would get them removed but it seems like too much fuss and expense when my chest is ruined anyway.

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/07/2013 08:53

Yes, hated being naked and prodded and positioned, and didn't mind the tattoos, they are just tiny, like freckles ( though blue. ) and you can't really see the side ones. They should ask though. If you really object then it's possible to ask for semi permanence marks but that seems to be a faff.

It is a bit like being a piece of meat at the butchers when you have radio so try to prepare for that. I agree that staff are nicest tho.

Legs ouchy so left a message for dr lovely. On plus side it has pushed my worries About scan to one side as just worried about tackling pain. Seeing specialist nurse after for a chat .

malteserzz · 22/07/2013 09:04

Morning all
Hope you get some help today gigs
I'm off for our group meeting and look round the chemo unit this pm oh what joy. Not good at seeing very poorly people as it reminds me how ill I am

kitkat1967 · 22/07/2013 09:06

Good luck Malt - are you asking about the cold cap and are you getting a line put in (sorry I can't remember if we already talked about that?

Hope you get some help today Gigs

Gigondas · 22/07/2013 09:13

Malt- you aren't really ill-hold onto how you feel. You are having treatment to insure that don't get unwell so think of it that way.

Listening to ambridge extra ... It's quite addictive mas.

topsyturner · 22/07/2013 09:15

Good luck for today to both Gigs and Malt
Hope both of you have good apts .

Got dermatology apt this afternoon .
Prob another one where they tell me I'm not aloud the light therapy treatment cos of the fecking cancer ...
Grin

BetsyBoop · 22/07/2013 09:25

Thinking of you today gigsand hoping for less pain and good CT.

malt - I haven't really seen any ill looking people on the chemo unit, yes some are a bit pale and bald, but generally most folks are quite chatty and just getting on with it (you can't do much else really...). As everyone wisely said to me the anticipation is the worst bit honestly, it's really not the stuff of nightmares. This time next week you'll have the worst days of your first cycle behind you. :)

Trying to catch up on washing today. DH has been fab at entertaining kids cooking meals, washing up etc, for the past few days, but washing clothes, no never entered his head Grin

topsyturner · 22/07/2013 09:34

Grrrrr "allowed" not "aloud" !!!

Gigondas · 22/07/2013 09:39

Is skin really bothering you in heat topsy? It thundered here earlier.

malteserzz · 22/07/2013 09:51

Yes I'll be asking about the cold cap and I don't know about the line yet. Not going till this afternoon I'm dropping grandad and the kids off at the space centre 1st, tempted to sneak in and hide in a rocket Grin

malteserzz · 22/07/2013 09:52

Topsy good luck at your appointment too Smile

Copthallresident · 22/07/2013 09:59

Just rushing on to hug gigs and hope for good Scan results and lovely pain relief. Mum shouting at Little Copt and I to get ready Grin

smee · 22/07/2013 10:04

Malt, what Gigs says helped me through chemo. So you're not ill, you're doing something positive to make sure you don't become ill. It's a weird mindset, but it made a massive difference to me. Hope this afternoon's reassuring. On Rads, they're fine just a bit tedious as you have to go each weekday. I had 25 over 5 weeks.

Betsy Grin at your DH's washing by-pass.

Gig, hope DrLovely can give some answers. Is he good at calling back?

Topsy, hope appt goes well but if they insist on saying no surely light therapy substitute is lolling in the back garden in your pants. Grin

Still running to catch up, so apologies for not posting more. Envious of MAS and HND on their holidays. My DS still at school - is he the last to break up?! He meets his new teacher today, but it's one he adores and his best mate's back in his class next year. All makes for a blissed out boy. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/07/2013 10:26

Absolutely agree with -gig and smee - it's just really an insurance against future illness and remember that your cancer has been removed.
Hot here today- off to Southwold ! There's a lovely fan too( in cottage!)

gig yes, love Ambridge Extra - I listen again when working...fab.

Hellooo, just popping in to send good wishes for today to gigs, I hope it all goes well and pain is sorted too. Video of big and mini is just about the cutest thing I have ever seen! :)

malt hope the tour is useful, yes gigs and smee make a good point, not ill just having preventative treatment :)

It's been well over a week since I took my last chemo tablets but the side effects are really lingering Angry heat is definitely not helping but I think I'm going to have to give in and go to GP for a bum inspection Hmm as the skin is completely raw and the pain is unbearable at times.

That aside, all good here :)

trice yay for raccoons and you not needing any sharp objects, and glad you're feeling happier.

smee poor DS stuck at school in this weather! Good he's got a nice teacher :)

topsy good luck and fingers crossed they say yes to the light treatment :)

I hope everyone is having a good Monday! Hugs to anyone who needs them

Gigondas · 22/07/2013 11:58

Poor ds to be in school but sounds good news about new teacher.

Ruby I do hope Gp can help as that kind of sore sking no fun ( I got blistered lady bits after radio).

Dr lovely did call but is reluctant to do anything until my scan done and oncologist looked at it . This is fair enough but no help for pain and am now in bits that it is sign of something more sinister.

Had very uncomfy and painful journey to dressing change . But if it looks ok I am off hook and can change it at home with occasional checks.Grin

Sorry to be moany- video is cute as big gig being very sweet to mini gig and will make her walk for miles if holds her hand .

kitkat1967 · 22/07/2013 12:13

Malt - I was casually told 'a month of rads' which I assume to be daily. I had no idea about the tattoo bit though so good to have some warning.
I'm already fed up of getting my boob out - because I'm having chemo before the Op the onc wants a prod everytime I see him Sad - honestly i wish it was chopped off already so I could be left in peace. I understand why we're doing it this way but can still be fed up Wink

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 22/07/2013 12:14

Moan away gigs you've got plenty of excuse. Good news about dressings though :) how long until the scan? And will the oncologist be able to look at it right away? I will take first shift on the paranoia box for you x
