Is sickness & Diarhea (sp?) catching ?

Apologies for my thickness but DD seems to have come down with a sickness/diarhea(sp?) bug, she been sick once this morning and have just changed 3 extremely loose nappies in the space of about an hour, she's now walking like John Wayne bless her :(
I've given her an apple to eat purely because she wont touch dry bread and she wouldn't eat ther tea last night, trying to get her to drink water but she wont touch it and waiting for DP to get back from the shop with diaralyte for her.
Has suddenly dawned on me that being 16 weeks pregnant I seriously don't want to catch this but is it likely to be catching ?

I'd say yes it is catching but if you're really strict with hand washing and hygiene you could be ok

I can't keep away from her, she is poorly and just wants lots of hugs. She is all shakey and its absolutely roasting here

It is catching but you can limit risk by strict hand washing

By handwashing do you mean after I change a nappy or everytime I touch her in general ?
God I sound so thick, she has been poorly before but its never bothered me catching it before.

Wash hands well after nappy changes, don't let her drink from your cup (saliva)

Have already failed on the kisses front, didn't even enter my head.
No bodily fluids, right, would help if I could just get DP to deal with nappy changes, hugs, kisses etc but she is a right mummies girl when she is under the weather.

Like others have said - D&V bugs can be very catching, but being ultra strict with handwashing & hygiene, will help prevent it being passed on to you.

She is lying on the sofa now watching CBeebies with a beaker of water and her little heart is pounding.

What can i give her to eat or should i avoid giving her anything at all. Like i mentioned before she hardly touchered her dinner last night although she was at a party in the afternoon where she picked at sandwiches, fruit, sausage rolls etc. All i have given her today is half an apple but its gone past her usual lunch time and i wonder if i should try her on something

if she's being sick don't give her anything to eat.

IME if they eat to soon after being sick they'll just bring it up again and it prolongs it all.

they say 24 hours without food but I've never manages to get my kids to go that long....

Best to go without food for the first 24 hours. If she is hungry, stick to very dry food, like toast & rice cakes. Do not give her any dairy products, as this will irritate her stomach.

She's only been sick once and that was at about 6.30 this morning, she has had the apple since then and not brought it back up, although the diarhea has continued.
I will just leave her while she is not asking for anything and see how she gets on with the diaralyte.

Have taken the yoghurts etc out of the fridge and put them in a freezer bag so she can't just go and help herself. She wont be interested in any of the other things in there.

shit! I've just had a little yoghurt! I'm recovering from the gastric bug! Bugger bugger bugger! Only just finished it too!

rich tea biscuits are my stand by for this..but if she doesn't want anything then be guided by her

btw, I was told to eat rice or drink rice water to stop the diarrhoea. As I was puking too I didn't bother, but if she's keeping stuff down, might be worth trying.

When were you last sick?

I would be worried too Rhuby, i hate being sick (not that anyone likes it) and the thought of getting over it then maybe getting back again would make me very sad.
I will give the rice a try as and when she is hungry, not got any rich tea's and still waiting for DP to return with from the chemist.
Also, her sick this morning was a very yellowy orange and just pure fluid, was actually quite thick. Any idea what that would be? DP thought it looked a bit like bile

yesterday. Just trying to go easy though as the diarrhoea has only just stopped, I though a teeny weeny yoghurt would be harmless enough!

btw, my sister gave me this gastric flu bug via email. Her entire family had it, she sent me an email, I get it! Coincidence? I don't think so!

Oh no, nightmare! Don't e-mail her when she is ill in future!!

dunno really. dd was sick a week last Tues 4 times but that was it, she was right as rain afterwards. A week later, this last Tues, ds was sick too and a bit floppy, but he wasn't really really ill. Then I get it and BOOM! I'm laid out all day yesterday and this morning. Not eaten for 24 hours and have just started tentatively to get something down me. Damn that yoghurt!

Sounds like you may have caught something from your kids then.
My DS1 once had a bug very mildly. He was literally sick once & was running around straight after. Four days later, both H & myself came down with the most hideous bug ever!!

Nope, I'm laying the blame on sis, have already had her on the phone apologising profusely.

Esmummy, if your dd has what I had, it is horrible. Try to get her to drink and try the rice to bung her up. Your pregnancy should protect you from this, so I've heard anyway. She'll be ok this time tomorrow.

OK, need help again.
DD has not drunk a thing all day, she sipped at some water this morning but will not drink her diaralyte and now will not drink her water either. Have given her a cup of very weak orange corial which she has drunk half a cup of in one go and its coming out the other end already.
Surely this is better than her not drinking anything though ? Right ?
I have tried putting diaralyte into her orange juice but she knows (think its the salty taste) and wont drink it.
