The one kidney that was working fine developed a blockage and they have had to do surgery to try and save it. Otherwise it will mean he will need dialysis and ultimately a transplant. Poor little mite is just 8 days old. Please all say a little prayer for him over the coming days.

Today's news - he is continuing to feed well (I would like to congratulate my sister big time here as she has been expressing and a small amount of actual breast feeding for the past 11 days since the birth), but output is still low. Yet they say if there is an output the kidney must have function so continue to monitor. On the downside, he has developed jaundice, and is now having phototherapy, but they aren't sure if it is just "natural" newborn jaundice or related to his problems, so will need more tests tomorrow.

oooh I was just looking for this thread to find out how he is CM - Sad that the news isn't any better but well done to your sister and dn for hanging in there.

bubble99 · 01/06/2006 21:12

Let's hope that it's the 'normal' newborn jaundice, CM. XX

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/06/2006 21:15

Oh no CM! Ive only just seen this. Have been working (am at work now...)

I really hope he recovers well. He is obviously a litle fighter. I dont have any medical background but it sounds good that there is some urine output.

Well done to your sister, it must be a really rough time for her atm.

Thinking of you all

Is she feeding him breast milk only, or is she giving formula as well? I can't remember why, but formula actually clears up jaundice faster than breast milk.

Hope he recovers soon. Will say some prayers for him.

\link{http://www.kellymom.com/newman/07jaundice.html\This is what kellymom has to say about jaundice and bfeeding, but for specialist advice, I would suggest ringing a bfeeding counsellor}

Sounds like she's doing brilliantly with feeding, CM - and he sounds like a fighter too.

Don't feel guilty, sweetheart.

Thinking of you all x x x x

Big up!! - For your sis with the expressing, good for her!! Smile I am glad he is doing ok, but Sad about jaundice. Really hope it is only the newborn kind - Hope the phototheraphy works, my DD2 had that when she was born and she was heaps better within days. She had an NG tube as well (does your nephew have one or is he taking a bottle?) and I expressed like a maniaic!! (Filled up SCBU's fridge!! Grin) Have they named the little mite yet btw, or is that info you'd prefer not to share?? Praying hard. xxx

Any more news comeoveneer?

Uwila · 05/06/2006 21:00

So, how is the little man now?

sunchowder · 05/06/2006 21:16

Yes, let's have an update--I hope he is diong better now.

ComeOVeneer · 06/06/2006 13:30

Sorry not to have psoted recently, was away from the computer at the weekend and at work yesterday.

GOOD NEWS - his kidney has "kicked in" well and urine output is good. Feeding is going well (he is now fully Bf'd, no more expressed milk via a feeding tube). Also the phototherapy has cleared the jaundice and he is ptting on weight. They are waitng on the results on one more blood test and he is havong a final scan this afternoon, and if both of those are ok HE WILL COME HOME TONIGHT. Grin Grin Grin . He will need weekly checks and blood tests for a while but all in all they are very hopeful that he will be just as healthy as any other little boy.

Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts and prayers. All being well I am off on Thursday to see him for the first time.
