am watching The Apprentice - had it on pause for a while - anyone else see it tonight?

thenightisyoung · 03/07/2013 22:32

Hi all, I'm still plugging away at the horrific application form - thanks for the encouragement copt and topsy

Yay for last chemo ruby and also for a drain-free smee

PictureThis · 03/07/2013 22:34

I've had my eyebrows tattooed, only had them done on monday. I haven't started my treatment yet so still have my own but I wanted to be prepared (it's the control freak in me). They've been tattooed as individual hairs rather than a block line and look fabulous, I'm very pleased. It didn't hurt because I was given local anaesthetic cream to put on my brows an hour before my appointment.

Sorry, that last post was for Malteserzz and not just some random statement as it looks on the new page Grin

malteserzz · 03/07/2013 22:40

Picture thanks for that I'd never heard of it Smile I will look into it, anything to make it less obvious must be a good thing

amberlight · 03/07/2013 22:54

Our blinking critical illness policy did not pay out. Grr.

Cold head at night; not in summer. But in cooler months wore a soft beanie hat in fleece material etc.

kitkat1967 · 03/07/2013 22:59

thanks Amber - well I can't tell with mine - could go either way I reckon - guess I will find out tomorrow.

Copthallresident · 03/07/2013 23:06

picture Yes I did get a cold head in bed and I wore a bright blue fleecey mountaineering hat so mountain rescue would find me easilyI fact I developed a big fleece thing generally as I felt the cold, and appreciated wearing something soft and cosy, so an entire fleece chemo wardrobe, fleece trousers, tops, socks, hats..... I don't think it is likely to catch on as high fashion Grin sadly they do not do fleece mastectomy bras or knickers......

My eyebrows and leghairs never gave up, the result of years of experience of fighting to survive I guess. It sort of added insult to injury to still have to get out the razor.

Apprentice was a bit dull, but looking forward to Margaret v Luisa, next week. There is an upside to her not being chucked out yet.

Copthallresident · 03/07/2013 23:09

amber On what grounds? You had Cancer, a critical illness surely. I was going to comment to kitkat that they paid up on that with a lot less fuss and bother than they kick up over a £200 bill for a bone density scan .

amberlight · 03/07/2013 23:23

Brokers said something about it being treatable therefore not terminal therefore tough luck. Hmm

kitkat1967 · 03/07/2013 23:26

Cop I've never had any reason to claim on insurances until now but got my holiday money back and all my private health without any quibble so fingers crossed.
I just have this view that critical illness never pays out but obviously that is just based on info in the press rather than first hand experience. I also think in my head I have confused Terminal Illness cover with Critical Illness cover which is why I had not looked at my policy until now. I have the later so will see what they say.

kitkat1967 · 03/07/2013 23:29

re TV viewing I have just got the box set of Grey's Anatomy to put on my tablet ready for the sleepless nights following my next chemo. I've never watched it so I hope I like it now I have series 1 to 8 to get through!!
I pretty much got through everything I had recorded last cycle so know I will need something for the early hours.

Malt with your sleeping struggles I hope the steroids do not affect you too much. Hopefully you will get your letter tomorrow.

Copthallresident · 03/07/2013 23:30

So the wording of the policy specified only terminal Cancer? I doubt it. Maybe they have tightened up because there are so many cases like ours but I wonder what the parity is with, say, prostate Cancer? So now I wouldn't have to be fighting my employer in court after being screwed over but would have to fight the insurance company Hmm

Copthallresident · 04/07/2013 00:14

Interesting (sorry I am turning geeky on this but I smell a rat ) A quick google shows that insurers clearly have a problem. "Last year, cancer was the most common reason for critical illness claims from our customers and over a third of these were for breast cancer, triggering pay-outs amounting to around £12m." So they have started to introduce partial cover policies where they pay out according to the severity of the treatment......

amberlight · 04/07/2013 02:33

I wonder if the brokers were correct...might ring insurer

malteserzz · 04/07/2013 06:14

On steroids I will never sleep ! Still struggling now Hmm
I have the downton abbey box set to watch so think I'd just watch that
I've not seen greys anatomy either

Gigondas · 04/07/2013 07:14

Morning all- my critical illness did pay out as my condition is not curable.

Greys anatomy is great- I need to get back into it. Also it doesn't upset me as any reference to cancer is done in such an American tv way it's laughable(plus focus is more on relationships than medicine).

Malt- when do you take steroids? I took em in morning which minimised up all night effect.

Very croaky sore throat here so may have to resort to communication by writing.

Hope smee doing ok and all those on/just off chemo plus anyone else in need of tlc.

I would definitely have another go on insurance amber based in what Copt says.

Copt yes insurance was a bit of a let down -boys were rubbish but next week is my favourite week Smile.

OP posts:
kitkat1967 · 04/07/2013 07:26

Malt - I had to go to India for work (was fab!!) at the end of last year and watched the Downton Abbey box set then - it was fab - hard to believe I had somehow missed it all on TV.
DH has the West Wing box set which we have never watched so that'll be next on my list.

Also my steroids were given in a drip when I had my chemo - so no additional tablets to take at home but the effects still lasted about 5 days (onc confirmed that this was what had caused the 3am wakeups).

I can ring re insurance after 9am so will report back. Based on my googling last night it looks like DCIS has been given partial cover by lots of companies - and in fact they require you to have mx to even qualify for that.

Gigondas · 04/07/2013 07:46

Not insurance - apprentice Blush. Can you tell I was awake last night?

OP posts:
malteserzz · 04/07/2013 08:43

Gigs not on steroids yet just anticipating problems in advance !
Getting fed up of waiting now, was dx 1st may, lumpectomy was 4th June and now it's 4th July and I'm still waiting to see the onc about chemo. Had a holiday booked on 17th July which we cancelled I'm thinking now we could still have goneHmm
I will phone if I get no letter today just seems so much effort finding the number and going through everything
Sorry for my moan hope everyone else is ok or okish

kitkat1967 · 04/07/2013 08:51

wo ho - insurance says Yes Grin. They will write to consultant to confirm details but they said it should be fine (from my basic description).

Gig - is it your last but one rads today?

Anyone else got any apppointments today? I get to have my picc line cleaned - oh the excitement!!

Gigondas · 04/07/2013 08:56

Yay for insurance kitkat. Was laset rads yesterday but got dressing change on pump today . Could do without that as want to rest my back without two hours in a car which is about what it usually takes to travel there and back.

Malt dont be shy- just ring as you have been waiting ages.

OP posts:
malteserzz · 04/07/2013 09:10

Gigs and Kitkat hope your appointments go ok today gigs hope sitting in the car is not too painful
If I don't get a letter in the post today I will definitely ring

kitkat1967 · 04/07/2013 09:13

Malt def phone as you have been waiting ages. We had our Ops around the same time and I will be having second chemo next week so they need to get their act together for you.
