what age did you use soap on your baby?

Not for quite a while, 6 months or so I think We use one made by Green People now.

she's a bit greasy smelling and I am tempted to wash her (4 weeks). maybe I'll just scrub her with warm flannel (shes been having the odd bath but just water)

a few weeks old but all of them were all natural organic ones.

although the nurse who washed the blood out of her hair in hospital used regular baby hair and body wash stuff and she was only a day old

mears did something on this I seem to remember - can't remember how long she said to just use water but was a long time!

I like by baby to smell good - bubbles from couple of weeks and a nice clean baby to boot

I've used the Boots Sensitive range from when mine were newborn. It's fragrance and soap free

we still don't use soap/bubbles (unless kids are caked in mud and we absolutely have to) but then both mine have sensitive skin

I didnt use any soap products for about 6 months. Use soap things rarely on dd.

I rarely use soap/shampoo on them now, but def didn't until about 9 months (i.e. until they were old enough to sit up and appreciate the bubbles)

I wouldn't use any product containing SLS on DS until he's at least 2. But then, I'm a paranoid label-reading lentil-weaving first timer! When bubbles are absolutely necessary we use either the halos 'n' horns stuff or the organic bubble bath from Blooming Second Mortgage Required Marvellous.

Oh, and for the first month, you're only meant to use water on a baby - even for nappy changes. Or so the midwife told me.

I'm another anti sls person - use a baby range available in boots (can't remember the name of it...) do babies really get that dirty/smelly that they need bubbles?

We've only just stated using them now. ds is a year. Before that - water only. We use Penaten baby hair and body wash, but when I was in the UK last week I bought some frighteningly expensive organic stuff I will use occasionally.

I think it's Simply Me, Blackduck. We use it too. Especially the lavender one - really nice.

Thats the stuff (I like it too....so pinch it...- prefer it to Halos and Horns stuff...)

great link Mears - I try to avoid this stuff of me and dp as well as ds - use products from health shops with no sls/sles etc...

I think the Little Me products have parabens in, don't they? The Green People products are wildly expensive but you only need the tiniest smear so they last forever. They are my favourite for all of us.

dd1 has sensitive skin and even now reacts to a lot of stuff.

been using Napier's infant wash on her from about 6 weeks.

now dd1 and 2 take a bath together and dd2 is nearly 6 calendar months, we use Earth Friendly chamomile and summat else bubble bath - a little goes a long way and I get it locally on my way home from work at Seesaw Nappies.

just get a bit of fleece and give her a dunk.

crikey, I read about all this ages ago (and was advised by hospital not to use products on DD) and I still don't - she's nearly a year old! Maybe I should chill out and use some of the stuff the rellies bought us!

What is SLS?

Parabens are preservatives which mimic oestrogen in the human body which could have a worrying effect on male children. In females they have been found in breast tissue and linked with cancer :(

SLS is sodium laurel sulphate, an industrial degreaser. You don't really want it on your skin, or in your mouth (it's often added to toothpaste as a foaming agent)

I use Aveeno oatmeal bathoil for DS (11mths) but don't nkow what SLS are & if there are any in it.
