To think I'm gonna bleed to death? tmi alert

Ok bit of a daft AIBU, but needed a quick answer.
Due on this week, period as normal for past 2 days, this evening its been pouring out of me, especially when I stand up. Is this normal?
I had my friend and her partner round, I stood up and my cream fabric sofa had a bright red puddle. Mortified.
Changed myself and sat down.
Stood up to let them out and my always extra long with wings wasn't holding it in.
Big clot on pad, sorry tmi.
Got in bed and mattress is ruined.
Should I be worried or go to sleep?
Those who have seen my other posts will know its been a stressful week and I def don't need anymore hospital visits!

Also (sorry to drip - literally) had terrible back pains and head ache but put that down to carrying 4 yo DD and lack of sleep.

Ok if that is not normal for you and you have headaches and you don't feel right then personally call NHS Direct.

I'd be worried if that was me... Give nhs direct a call.
They'll have an idea of whether you need to be concerned or not.

No I'm alone with 2 DC and DD especially needs her sleep tonight. Now I'm lay down in bed for 10 mins it doesn't seem quite so bad. Ok I'm making excuses but no way am I going to hosp!

No, its been a couple of months since I. And I am sterilised plus its at exact time when period due so I think with those odds its unlikely.

Are you near the menopause? Could be hormonal fluctuations.

Thankyou, had a read but still unclear if any of those require immediate attention. I can feel it trickling now lay down but no sure if I should get up or stay lay down all night so its less.

I believe that ladies who have been sterilised can sometimes find that their periods are worse afterwards. I really sympathise OP.

I've suffered from heavy periods for about the last 5 years.

At their worst I have to use a superplus extra tampon and a pad, and if I left it any more than 2 hours during the day it would go through both.

The first time it happened I felt really light headed and faint, but I don't know if that was just because I was worrying and panicking myself. I had something sugary and felt a bit better. I reasoned to myself I'd give it a few hours - it slowed down overnight, and since then has followed same pattern (though never quite as bad). I get really bad pains with it, a bit like labour, normally when - sorry this is a bit TMI - there's a clot passing.

So based on my experience you should be ok, but as I'm just some random off the internet :) you should prob call NHS Direct just for some reassurance.

I was sterilised 4 and half yr ago and all well til now. Ok velvet that's good to know. It hasn't gone through this one yet (I don't think - scared to move!) so I think I'll lie here and not move. Sure if it was something more sinister it'd pour out whatever the position.

My main concern is I'm already anaemic.

I was sterilized about a year ago and my periods have been like this for about 6 months now. It's a nightmare! I also get bad cramps now too and big clots. (Sorry for TMI!)

Ok I think I will try and sleep and see what its like later. Pad holding in at the min.

Goodness hot air, if that's the marker for going to A&E I'd never be away - until the last couple of months I'd literally be changing tampon and towel every half hour and would sometimes flood in between. Just have always had heavy heavy periods. Interestingly enough switching to a low carb diet seems to have settled everything down and the last three have been way more manageable.

If its unusual for you to be so heavy OP it would be worth getting checked out in the morning. I feel your pain, such heavy bleeding is a real nightmare.

Light for most a bit more heavy in the middle which I guess this is but normal never heavy.

I was mortified with friends being here. I got up to put kettle on and my 7 yo DS said what's that mummy pointing to large red puddle and as 7 yo do, wouldn't drop it!

My mum always had heavy periods but when she hit her 40s she would have periods like you're describing every few months with them gaining in frequency as she approached the menopause. She would have to change her super plus tampons and 2 x night time towels twice each night and even then, in the morning, with an actual towel between her legs, would drip blood all the way to the bathroom. Nice.

She had to have a hysterectomy in the end as she was so anaemic, there was no let up and no way of knowing when the menopause would finally put paid to it all.

Hopefully it's a one off for you (I get the odd horrendous Niagara style one every Niue and again) but please seek medical advice if it continues.

I had this last month, it was so horrible. The funny thing was it wasn't at all painful like a normal period. My GP gave me norethisterone to stop the bleeding, it worked within 6 hours. I'm going back for a check up soon to discuss it. From what I read, it can be caused by failed ovulation, so lower than normal levels of progesterone.

You have my sympathies. I've actually used a baby's nappy as a ST in an emergency!
