Well, I was going to post but thanks to cop got distracted by watching lots of Hugh Jackman videos on YouTube! He's so scrummy Grin

Hope everyone is having a good day, enjoy your roast topsy

Not much exciting to report here, I also did some gardening yesterday which was lovely but then had to have a long nap :) am lazing around today doing some knitting and enjoying th sunshine while it lasts.

Race for life sounds good ned how far is it? And when is it taking place? I'd love to sponsor you :)

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/04/2013 13:37

oh well done ned -fab ! I toyed with that a year or so ago, but bottled out of it.
Hope gig slept well- the bucket will be handy for when topsy has been to hnd's for a sherbet. I got my dad a similar top in green and navy which am sure he'll love, seeing as he really does sail, unlike me. And some sailor socks for him.
Hope granny's roast is yummy- am always envious of your proper Sunday lunches- we are nibbling on some taramasalata today.

Hugh jackman is rather lovely. I saw him in Oklahoma too copt he was rather gorgeous excellent, wasn't he?

ashokan race for life is 5km, so only 3 miles or so. Am doing mine on 19th May. Did it in 2007 in rhe pissing rain when I was 6 months pregnant, so hopefully will be a bit easier without carrying gestating DS along too! Thanks for saying you'll sponsor me - I'll try and get a justgiving thing set up and link it to FB.

We had rather tasty mini pork pies and bread and cheese for lunch. Going out for supper tonight so need to leave some room Smile

So what was the roast of the day then topsy??

What was on your lunch menu gig? Something fortifying and delicious I hope x x x

Am needed to assist with DSs complicated computer game. I don't know why he asks me, he's far better at it than me!

Love and Brew to everyone x x x

NedSchneebly · 21/04/2013 14:09

Have done Just Giving linky thing on FB. Anyone else who might feel able to chuck a few quid in the sponsorship pot could PM me?

graciesmall09 · 21/04/2013 15:15

Popping in to hug gigs very gently. Take it easy and just enjoy being waited on as you will be home before you know it back to running after little and mini.

ned well done on Race for Life.

Nothing much to report here just very busy. GB display last Friday which resulted in a row with my mum as she moaned the whole way through about how long it was, how she was bored, etc. By the end I had had enough and told her she wouldn't be invited again and to think herself lucky she was getting the chance to see her grandchild as I may not get that chance Blush. Off to my friend's dad's funeral tomorrow. He was only diagnosed 3 weeks ago with liver cancer Sad

Love to all x

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/04/2013 15:38

oh gracie Sad about your friend's dad - how awful. And grrr about your mum.

OP posts:
Gigondas · 21/04/2013 15:49

Gracie AngrySad about your mum- that's not good. Very sad about your friends df.

AmEnvy reading about all your food as started to feel quite hungry now. Am able to move laboriously about too.

Need someone to do spell on box for me as have had way more heavy duty conversations about medical stuff than want to - just want to hide my head and ignore it.

amberlight · 21/04/2013 16:21

Gigs, fear ye not; my substantial backside is more than enough to keep any paranoia box firmly shut.
Meantime, have a choc and a Brew and a decent hug.

HerNextDoorAt21 · 21/04/2013 16:28

Lovely to see you posting gigs .... I was a bad patient too..... Wanted to do everything for myself.

gracie poor you ..... That was not very nice of your mum and such sad news about your friend

Everyone else .... Gardening in shorts et al ???? The ground is still way too wet here. I am also concerned about my inability to
Bend easily and the fact my back is still very tight .... Feel a bit of a whinge but hate to see my garden getting too out of hand and DH is not a keen gardener at all !

notJenkins · 21/04/2013 16:53

Hello all and lovely to see you are back gigs

I have a lot of this thread to catch up on. We had a lovely night away in the van although giant hooligan puppy almost killed the dog boarder that he spent the night with and her daughter.

We have been on a mission to paint, tidy, clean, declutter and generally prepare our house to go on the market.

Tues I am excited about having lunch with ned but I am seeing the lovely onc after so I can't pretend any more cancer is not in my life. I am worried as will get the initial scan results. My head is firmly buried in the sand and real life has elbowed it's way back in so I am pretending it all is not happening.
Seeing my horrible boss tomorrow morning as I am back to work next week. Gulp. I am really really not looking forward to it despite having a graduated return.

amberlight · 21/04/2013 17:10

PS Gigs - any chance of reminding me (here, fb, whatever works) of which potions and stuff they've had you on so far?

Gigondas · 21/04/2013 17:24

So far surgery, targeted radio (on original op site) then doxorubicin and ifosfamide 6 rounds. This shrunk most of lung and bone mets except one on neck ( which may have shrunk but they wouldn't know as Didnt spot it so can't measure) and got tiny lump near original lump site that is coming out in week (may be nasty or could be infection pocket).

Haven't discussed more chemo or radio yet as guess that is for post recovery.

Also have to hold onto fact am generally well and wouldn't put me they this if wasnt life in me yet. Pain dr was impressed by low dose of drugs on.

Watching les mis now- Anne Hathaway is amazing but SadSad as forgot what a boo fest it is. Hides face and snuggles up to amber

Gigondas · 21/04/2013 17:25

Meant to say chemo improved all known mets so that's good.

smee · 21/04/2013 18:26

Any news on when you can get home yet, Gigs? How's the pain? Has the old pain you were having before gone?? Really hope it has.

Sad Gracie about your friend's dad and good on you for losing it with your mum. Sometimes a few home truths are essential.

Sunny here too. Have been off on my bike to try and find a present for my dad's birthday. Got him a dvd of Mash. I kind of want it myself now. Remember watching it as a family when I was a teen. I'm sure he'll like it. Smile

jchocchip · 21/04/2013 18:29

hi everyone. Sorry I'm not really here today. Popped on to say hi. Good to see you posting gigs .

Saw old friend with kidney cancer + mets this morning she said she had been told that a few years ago prog would have been 1-2 years but is now 8-10. Her chemo is going well at the moment w/o side effects.

Been tracking a friend run the marathon. Didn't see her on tv but she has finished :)

amberlight · 21/04/2013 19:37

Ha!

I see there are promising combinations of imatinib, BMS-936558, ipilimumab, pd1 antibody treatments, dasatinib and ibrutinib, Gigs.
Jolly good!
Plenty more ways to slow anything down whilst they are getting the new genetic therapy working.

Gigondas · 21/04/2013 19:47

Oh thanks amber- and just had note from onc to say will do radio on my neck when ready and also going to scan my stiff hip again and zap nasties there if necessary. I know it's good can do something but I just feel so battered with it all right now. Surgery is tough isn't it?

Well there is drugs for me and Winefor you and endeavour to watch.

amberlight · 21/04/2013 20:10

Well believe it or not, that's good news. If you were a gonner, they wouldn't be doing stuff. Especially not expensive tricky stuff. Bet you do feel battered, yup. Ooo, wine! I'd think they'll have a bash at ipilimumab if they can get private funding for it. But who knows. Lots of combinations to toy with.

Gigondas · 21/04/2013 20:24

Have private funding so maybe that's an option.

And you are right amber that can't be quite done in yet.

Back to endeavour (you know a duvet is exactly what I need as hospital blankies aren't same).

topsyturner · 21/04/2013 21:09

Yoo hoo Mr Gigs

Please can you take Mrs Gigs a comfy duvet in ?
And (if my hospital memories serve me right) some decent pillows !

Have paused Endeavour whilst DH and DS do battle with his WW1 diorama of a soldier being executed in the trenches !
They have modelled the trenches from clay and corrugated cardboard .
And he is presently building his own barbed wire fencing .
We are trying to persuade him to stop for the night , but he is talking about making some dead bodies now ...

Can't wait for everyone to go back to school and work tomorrow .
Weekends do me in .
I crave the peace and quiet that Monday mornings bring me Grin

jchocchip · 21/04/2013 21:22

Why is homework always discovered Sunday night?

Was having a good weekend until ds took excepton to me cleaning his room while he was out... Watching endeavour curled up with the cat :)

Gigondas · 21/04/2013 21:23

Got pillows - just missing duvet.
This endeavour quite dark.

topsyturner · 21/04/2013 22:26

But who did Morse not save ???
Gah , I hate it when they save a twist for a future episode !
My bil told me that the uniformed copper Morse is sort of friendly with , is his boss (chief con I think) in the Morse episodes !

AshokanFarewell · 21/04/2013 22:36

gigs yep surgery is just horrible. However good the results are, the actual process is pretty brutal! It's no wonder you feel battered. Hopefully you'll start to feel better soon :) I found it was definitely a case of two steps forward, one back. Are you being woken in the night for obs?

jane hope cat snuggles are making your evening better again and that the homework got finished in time! That change in prognosis is amazing in such a short time, and hopefully will continue to improve as more research is done.

topsy that sounds fabulous, sounds like DS has a very vivid imagination, but can see why you are craving a bit of peace! Hope things have quietened down now.

amber you really are brilliant! And love the image of you with your potions. Maybe one of those ball things? Something cradle, can never remember the name. Or a van der Graaf generator to help with your Einstein hair Wink

Hope everyone has had a good day, goodnight :)

Copthallresident · 21/04/2013 22:46

Very dark, I hate any sort of horror type stuff so it was all a bit errrgh, and I also hate anything where people are up high so quite a lot of wimpy watching through fingers. Thankfully had Wine and chocolate. and could have done with duvet too. Roger Allam was brilliant though and in danger of eclipsing baby Morse. I love him in everything he is in, he was really good in last series of Thick of It and of course he made a much better Javert than Russell Crowe, he can actually sing..........

gigs Horrid when you have all those doctors reducing you to their easy to digest statistics and paradigms, and rubbing it in. All very well but they don't know you. If you feel well and you have good police to deal with the random idiots, and are now bionic then..... WONDER WOMAN

Ned Yes he can slap my thighs anytime Smile Yeehaw

Topsy DS's trench sounds great. I loved making helping DDs make models. It was with great sadness I threw away my DD's prizewinning "Eggquarium" from the Easter Egg decorating competition. The secret of --my- her success was that it actually looked like the work of a six year old, as opposed to the work of a mother who had been to art college.. Why do they do it when they know the parents will be up until the wee small hours getting the thing done. I thought DDs going to seriously academic school, as gigs knows, would be an end to it but in Year 9 DD came home and said Geography Teacher had tested them and found they were tactile learners and so they had to make a sand dune Shock I won that too, it was on show for a while Grin

I have SUNBURN, very red nose not just the wine
