What is living inside me, and how can I kill it?! (TMI warning)

Last night I went for a wee before bed and when I wiped I noticed a black, inch long, 'thing' on the paper. It was very thin, and I thought it was a hair, but a very thick one. I looked a bit closer and one end sort of reared up a little, so I'm sure it was a living creature. At that point I flushed it down the loo in panic!

I thought it might mean I had general 'worms' but when I googled about them it said they are white. This was black.

Today I inspected the paper after wiping and there were a couple of shorter thin things that looked lighter in colour. If I hadn't seen the black moving thing the night before I would have presumed they were just little bits of hair, but now I don't know.

Does anyone have any idea what this is and how I can get rid of any more that might be in me?!

I do have 3 cats, so don't know if it's some kind of creature caught from them? I do always wash my hands before eating and after cleaning their litter tray etc. But I don't always wash after every single time I stroke one of them. And I admit, they do often sleep on my bed.

Any ideas? And will I have to go to the dr? I hate going to doctors about 'embarrassing' inflictions!

I would go to the chemists and get some ovex, then make an appointment on monday if there is no change.

Just get some ovex for now. Dd had a worm come our if her nose. That was worrying but GP just prescribed ovex same as for arse worms.

Any other symptoms?

Could it be something that you have eaten rather than something living? I ate a load of beansprouts once and had a terrible shock when I went to the loo the next day. I thought I had tapeworms or something then realised it was the beansprouts!

Apparently, bum worms can get in your nasal passages and so on if you inhale the eggs and they hatch up there. We were a little shocked. It could've been a roundworm - which is what I feared. However, even more scary worms are treated with same stuff so we just super dosed on that.

Try and 'catch' one and take it to a pharmacist. We did that. Everyone left the shop but it was very helpful. Pharma lady said we have all sorts of parasites everywhere, she was quite unphased.

Don't think Ovex will work for this type of worm it's too big to be a threadworm. Easy to get a prescription from the GP though.

I've had them too, got them from my skanky pets.

My dad got worms from the dog years and years ago and one got into his brain and made him have a fit. They saw the worm in his brain on a scan.

Its given him epilepsy.

This worm brain was diagnosed 40 years ago. Its possibly bollocks, not on my dad's part, but maybe the Drs got it wrong. It does sound odd, he definetly has epilepsy and didn't before he got worms.

Can I just add that the worms that about 40 percent of your DC and their schoolmates have and you are not caught from household pets. Roundworms are (rarely) and they will travel all over your insides and come out of your eyes, brain, lungs, whatever...

Nicer worms, such as the familiar threadworms, are only as adventurous as your colon, nose (evidently) and occasionally fanjo.

I have no worm symptoms but think I might dose myself up with Ovex after this thread. Does Ovex work on roundworms?
