OK I succeeded in inserting it OK. It didn't feel very uncomfortable, but just not completely comfortable iyswim ... I felt a bit heavy/dragging. Anyway I left it in for about half an hour, then successfully removed it - Phew! Grin

Do you think I should take is gently, and just try for half an hour at a time, then have a rest. Or should I keep trying until I get it in 'properly' and it feels entirely comfortable?

It's up to you. Do you have a period pending?
I was going to change my name to answer this to a mooncup superheroine but I can't think of one...the 'cupped ' crusader, perhaps..

When it's in properly you should not feel it all, just like a tampon. Maybe you need to push it further up before 'releasing' IYSWIM Winkand then try to twist it slightly to make sure all the sides are open.

And engage those pelvic floor muscles to help you - squeeze to seel the vacuum and push to break it when taking it out - makes it much easier.

CarolinaMooncup · 01/04/2006 10:54

ah, was going to post and then MT said it all Smile. Squeezing with your pelvic floor muscles definitely helps.

Have you trimmed the stem?

monkeytrousers · 01/04/2006 10:57

Like the name CarolineaMooncup! Grin

overdraft · 01/04/2006 10:58

wet it under tap before inserting helps too

Caligula · 01/04/2006 11:00

Every half an hour sounds a bit dire, tbh. I'd leave it in a bit longer unless it's very uncomfortable.

flibbertygibbet · 01/04/2006 11:54

Thanks - I'll let you know how I get on!

Grin

what did you do differently?

flibbertygibbet · 01/04/2006 19:17

Well I trimmed the stem, and followed all of monkeytrousers' instructions. I'm not sure what made the difference, but it worked, and it's so easy!

The Cupped Crusader saves the day! Smile

fastersleep · 02/04/2006 18:38

I am definitely going to try this next month! Do my bit for saving the planet.

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 02/04/2006 18:43

That's not me, seriously this isn't a joke...I don't know what's going on but that's not me.

They're posting on really sedate threads what's going on!

jellyjelly · 02/04/2006 21:11

I havent used one yet but have seen the thread then saw it in the boots magazine, do you not get blood all over you? does it not tip when you pull it out?

CarolinaMooncup · 03/04/2006 13:55

jellyjelly, you get some blood on your fingers, but prob not any more than you would if you were using Lil-lets type tampons.

Somehow, the blood stays in the Mooncup and doesn't tip out - the instructions say to pull out one side and then the other once it's nearly out and that seems to keep it upright. You tip the blood down the toilet (this is a bit gory) or fertilise your plants with it Grin and then rinse the mooncup, which is fairly bloody by this stage but rinses clean easily.

there is loads of info \link{http://www.mooncup.co.uk/menstrual_cup_faq.html#top\here}

monkeytrousers · 03/04/2006 18:58

You change it over the toilet - and there's nothing wrong with blood anyway, us there. We don't have to fall for all that unclean nonsense when we're on our own with our moon cups, do we??

poppiesinaline · 03/04/2006 19:08

I used my mooncup for the first time last month. I am a convert too Grin. Glad you got the hang of it flibbertygibbet. :)

fuzzywuzzy · 03/04/2006 19:13

I have question, posed by one of the girls I work with...
What happens when you are in a public toilet and you need to rinse out the mooncup, what do you do, wear a sanitary towel whilst you make your way to the wash basin (and hope nobody sees), or ummm re-insert it without rinsing it out???

CarolinaMooncup · 03/04/2006 19:23

you are supposed to just wipe it with bog roll, reinsert and give it a better wash next time you empty it, or you can take a small bottle of water in with you to rinse it over the toilet (and hope you don't drop it Grin).

I've haven't had to change it while I'm out though. it holds a fair bit of blood and doesn't leak if it's in properly.

pesme · 03/04/2006 19:27

or go into a disabled loo and use the handbasin in there.

fuzzywuzzy · 03/04/2006 19:35

riiight I shall tell her...don't think this will convince her at all though.

poppiesinaline · 03/04/2006 19:35

I also have a question! DH and I are due to go away in for a weekend (without kids YIPEE). Our first weekend away alone since having children (9 years) and AF is due that weekend :( Anyway, what do I do about sterilising mooncup if AF appears while we are away? I cant exactly take it to reception in the hotel and ask them to boil it for 5 minutes for me!! Shock

fuzzywuzzy · 03/04/2006 19:43

could you not cold water sterilise it??? Or put it in a cup of boiling hot water for a few minutes???

fuzzywuzzy · 03/04/2006 19:43

Why can I not leave this thread alone I don't even use mooncups.......

poppiesinaline · 03/04/2006 19:50

LOL fuzzywuzzy! You should. You would be an expert before you even started Grin

Rhubarb · 03/04/2006 19:52

Apparently you shouldn't try to sterilise them in a pan on the stove in case you forget to turn it off, the mooncup then becomes flammable and before you know it, it's burnt your house down! Try explaning that one to the fire investigators!

There was a thread about it's flammability!
