Am wheeling the trolley over....

That's a really long time in theatre Turning - very hard for you having to wait it out. It's good they are keeping you updated though, poor chap is going to be pretty wiped out for a while after such a long anaesthetic, - how long does he have to stay in hospital?

Smee- not quite sure how she did it, - I think she might have slept awkwardly on her arm. But she compounded it because old lady dog went upstairs. slipped on the stairs and DD reached out to grab her so she didn't fall (lucky she was there actually) but it hurt her arm even more. Of course it could be basically caused by overuse, - she has been playing an awful lot recently - she practices very hard.

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/11/2012 17:30

oh poor dd KK - what a pain- hope it gets better soon.
Hope Mr turning is out of theatre and recovering- what a marathon- sending him healing vibes.
Secondary support group was good- both lovely bcns there and very nice ladies, all different ages. There were mince pies and kitkats too - limited myself to 1 kitkat. We're going out for a pre-Christmas lunch too, which will be a jolly thing.
Kind dad has taken T to piano so I didn't have to rush back.

Oh I'm pleased the secondary support group was good MAS, I'm sure it helps to meet people who understand your situation, - mince pies and kit kats sounds excellent, - and the lunch will be fun too.

I made falafels for tea - but they sort of dissolved in the pan when I cooked them - had to scrape them out and shove them into pitta breads quickly before they fell through the slots of the fish slice. Recipe was from an Anthony Worell Thomson book I got in a charity shop, - the last thing I cooked from it ( flat breads - imagine eating an asbestos mat with sunflower seeds on it) was shit too.
Am beginning to suspect he may not have actually tried the recipes Hmm, or maybe he likes his food either very sloppy or rock hard - who knows?

NedSchneebly · 21/11/2012 17:58

The thought of smee and copthall flashing their bits at rude choir lady has made me chuckle!

kurri Sorry to hear about DDs wrist - has she been told to strap it up or anything? I sometimes used to get tendonitis if I did too much playing, (round Christmas or school show time) and had a splint to give it some support. Hope she can keep practicing gently.

MAS glad support group was good, and that they didnt let you down on the tasty nibbles too! Nice idea to go out to Christmas meal too - should be fun!

Hope MrTurning will soon be out of theatre. Good that you've had progress report. Must be such a long day for you, turning sending you positive vibes x x

Am being evicted from the computer by DS and his Flash games obsession. . .

Laters lovelies x x

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/11/2012 18:04

bah about falafels- love them v much- I used to take them to the meditation day silent lunches as they seemed a suitable zen-like snackerel. (also quiet to eat as the chomping is excruciatingly embarrassing_)

Great news about your scan gig.
Love to everyone on here,I read nearly every day but often have nothing useful to say so read and run iyswim :)

graciesmall09 · 21/11/2012 19:33

Waves to greylady.

Aw poor DD kurri that sounds very painful. Would an ibuprofen rub help at all? Now you know why AWT receipe book was in the charity shop Grin

mas glad the secondary support group was enjoyable. pre-christmas lunch sounds fun.

Hope mrturning is out of theatre soon. My goodness that is a long day. Thinking of you both.

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/11/2012 20:01

Turning if it is any consolation, it sounds such a long time in theatre but Surgeon admitted to good friend when she had reconstruction that although it was 10 hours, not to worry because they would not be working on her for all of that time, when they had tunnelled the bit of her stomach up into place, they had a break and went of for lunch and a chat and left it all to settle down before finishing it all off??!! She did find that reassuring in a strange sort of way as in if they were that relaxed and comfortable with it.... I hope all is well.

KK that Paracetamol gel is a marvel. I nursed a strange painful lump on my knuckle for ages, reasoning it probably wasn't anything nasty but I really didn't want to go through all that again and when I finally went to the doctor because it was stopping me doing things she recommended it and it sorted it out completely, in fact having just checked there is no lump at all. Mind you if it is her wrists telling her to take a rest, maybe that is the best thing. Grr AWTs Falafels(which DDs tell me I pronounce all wrong, like advertisement and poem) Actually for that sort of thing I find Chef google quite handy, much better than his doctor friend, just look for someone who seems local IYSWIM. I am a very happy bunny today as grabbed Manchurian for a late lunch, oh yes!

MAS So glad the secondary support group went well, when it works it is great. I do hope it is as good support for you as it was for us. We met a lady who had been living with secondary's for 18 years and still going strong.

Copthallresident · 21/11/2012 20:49

I mean grabbed a Manchurian lunch not a Manchurian Blush

Ned We could be available for bah mitzvahs and parties Wink

KurriKurri · 21/11/2012 22:24

Have got some ibuprofen gel for DD, but one of the choir members is a physio and she gave DD's arm, neck and shoulder a good going over after rehearsal tonight - manipulating it etc., and DD says she thinks it does feel a bit better.
She's also been asked by someone she did some accompanying for at a festival a while ago if she'd be interested in applying for an organists position - apparently there is a shortage of organists, and they will train you and pay you while you are training - sounds good!

I apparently pronounce falafels wrong too (actually although it was initially a mistake I now do it on purpose for annoyance value Grin)
I am determined to find one recipe in this AWT book that is edible - not going to let the little bastard defeat me - I will keep cooking from it until I win!

I've never had Manchurian - I am guessing it is Chinese food, - but what sort of dishes do you have? - it sounds like the sort of thing I would like, - I love all kinds of Asian cooking.

KurriKurri · 21/11/2012 22:25

Hope Mr Turning is out of theatre now, and doing well.

Hello greylady Smile - always lovely to see you, hope all is well with you.

Turningupsidedown · 21/11/2012 23:07

Hi all - update - it was about 10 hours in the end they seem happy with it. He is still attached to monitors and oxygen but sats are improving repair is still looking healthy and he is not in pain. So all good. I am very tired now. Thanks for all good vibes Smile

Can I have a Brew- 5am start today as opposed to 4am yesterday.

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/11/2012 07:21

poor gig

OP posts:
smee · 22/11/2012 09:33

Smile Smile for Mr Turning. Hope you got some sleep and he's awake and feeling okay.

5am's not good ever, but especially not at this time of year. Which gig was it? Baby or mini? You must feel like it's lunchtime already.

MAS, how are hands?? Any better?

Copthallresident · 22/11/2012 10:40

gig hang in there, just think in ten years or so you will be struggling to get them up at 4pm!

Mrs Turning Hope all is still well but don't forget to look after yourself too Brew

KK It's the opposite end of China to Guangdong and the Cantonese food you usually get in the UK so we had kebabs with cumin, lovely pork ones, and a really nice Spinach salad with chillies and sesame seeds. www.fuchsiadunlop.com/manchurian-legends/ If you want to explore Chinese food Fuchsia's books on Hunanese and Sichuan are brilliant, and her memoir on living in Sichuan (so she knows what she is talking about unlike AWT Angry, and her blog. I'm always giving out this recipe for Gong Bao Chicken to guests, www.fuchsiadunlop.com/cooking/ you'll never eat the orange gloopy version they serve in restaurants again!!

Herrena · 22/11/2012 13:47

Hello ladies, sorry I haven't checked in for a while....

I just wanted to ask a quick question. My mum (recently diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer) went for her MRI today. Apparently they were focusing primarily on the breast area, to check size/extent of the tumour. I mention this because it surprised me - I thought the whole body got scanned to check for metastases (sp?).

Anyway, my question is: how long did you have to wait for analysis of your MRI results? Does it take ages or is it quite fast?

Thanks and good wishes to all :)

Gigondas · 22/11/2012 14:15

Has she had a ct scan? That is usual first step for checking for metastases but MRI would likely show them too (plus give more detail on lump size for surgery).

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/11/2012 15:09

waves to herrena and everyone- am back to my desk in a mo...anything on the trolley to keep me going ?

OP posts:
smee · 22/11/2012 16:37

Hi Herrena. I had Bone and CT scans, which was maybe just what they did back then (2010). I have had an MRI for back problems. I think it depends how quickly the person doing the scan writes up the report, but should be within a day or so. Ring BCN to ask? Mine rang me when I was out shopping to tell me my CT was clear. Was lovely of her. Smile

MAS, will hurl some crispy cornflake cakes onto trolley for you, along with clementines. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/11/2012 17:45

mmm, thanks smee Grin
I think, possibly, that I may have finished my joke book - a few corrections to do - yikes !

OP posts:
graciesmall09 · 22/11/2012 20:28

Well done mas on finishing your illustrations. They look fab.

herrena I had a CT of my liver, pelvis and lungs and full body MRI. I then had a bone scan. My consultant was on holiday when my results were due so I plagued phoned my bcn and she gave me the results. They were through in a few days. Hope the results for your mum are good.

How is your DD's arm kurri hopefully ok. Organist position sounds fab.

Hope mrturning is recovering and I hope you are looking after yourself turning.

Waves to smee, gigs, copthall and anyone else lurking.

smee · 22/11/2012 20:48

Wow, MAS you are clever. I seriously think you deserve a medal. At the very least a trolley load of your favourite fbs. Grin

Waving back to Gracie. How's the skin today? Smile
