Cabbage Soup/Negative Calorie Diet - Anyone with experience?

Happy New Year All...

I thought I might try the Cabbage Soup diet this month (after reading about it here)... I went to the website given and found reference to the Negative Calorie Diet (which I've not heard of before) it sounds too good to be true...

Does anyone have experience of this diet?
Does anyone know if the book is currently available in the uk?

TIA

Beety sorry you feel crap it must be athe caffine thing. Personally I haven't cut out caffine. I am drinking 3 cups of weak black tea (earl grey) so I don't have much caffine anyway. I don't usually drink coke, and I have coffee perhaps once a week, so my caffine intake is pretty low naturally. I am drink loads of water, which seems to be flushing me out, but (Bitch of all Bithces) I got on the scales this morning and haven't lost a thing!! Just my luck I am the biggest fan of this diet, although I do see it as a detox more than anything, and I haven't lost weight!! I am off to Slimming World class tonight so I will know for sure, but hopefully by the end of the week I'll still have lost a couple of lbs. I think it is because I had a bit of a dodgy tummy the day before starting this and had already 'lost' a couple of lbs!!

I wasn't in the office yesterday so no mumsnet

Day 3 today and I feel great - not hungry at all but I must admit I have weakened and had a white coffe from the machine this morning first one since Thursday as I detoxed over the weekend!

Went for tea yesterday with my friend - there were lots of lovely cakes but I DIDN'T have one - I desperately wanted one at the time as everyone else dug in to their Eclairs but I felt very proud of myself afterwards.

Weighed myself this morning and have lost 2lbs!

I too started feeling a little bloated but that seems to have gone today.

I need to ask - are you all going to drink lots of milk tomorrow? I don't like skimmed milk so was planning to repeat today - do you think that will be ok?

Salt I know what you mean about tomorrow, it is my worst day. I do tinker with this diet as I don't believe that making yourself feel ill is good. Last year I did do the full skimmed milk and banana thing (organic skimmed milk is slightly nicer) and it did kill any cravings for swet food, which is the theory behind it, but I felt sick all day. I am going to do low fat yoghurt, up to two pots, and bananas. Perhaps some other fruit like apples.

Since I don't eat meat I will do fruit/veg/soup on Friday and on Saturday treat myself to prawns and veg. Sunday I am looking forward to brown rice with a veggie casserole - yummy!!

Crunchie, What do you mean by 'other fruit like apples'?

So far I'm not having cravings for sweet stuff so I might try to go without the milk but have will couple of bananas and may have one in semi-skimmed milk after dinner.

I have to confess I'm really looking forward to the beef day!

Days one and two over and I nearly broke last night. Finished all my first batch of soup and made more last night and decided that plain was the way to go then I could add spices as I went along. Ate loads of salad and loved the potato!
No headaches as I don't drink caffine anyway but I have wind!!
Foul foul wind!! I am not nice to be near at all!!

I have some nice smoked cod for Friday, but am finishing then, can't do it over the wekend.

salt · 07/01/2004 11:37

I have about half my soup left. I'm hoping it'll last me through until the end so I don't have to make anymore.

I must admit today is the first day I've really felt hungry... really hungry. I was doing so well until about 30minutes ago but I'm struggling not to eat something nice now.

This diet was formerly a diet in hospitals around the country, for patients who were over weight, yes it does work, I tried it a few years ago but ended up being sick...I didn't go near veggies for a long while after, just the smell of it turned me green as the cabbage ...yuk.yuk.yuk.. if you can do it, its only a short term thing, most of the weight loss is fluid, you burn up the calories by eating the soup alone, just like eating celery stick, it takes more calories than are actually in the dam thing...Good luck anyway to all you out there, well done for trying.

salt, tomorrows 'official' food is soup and 6 - 8 bananas and 6 - 8 glasses of skimmed milk. I may have a couple of bananas and yoghurt, but also eat other fruit. It is hard sometimes, I find the day easy enough as I am at work, I bring food in, I am slowly munching through a punnet of plums. The problem time is 6 - 8 pm, so I eat 2 or 3 bowls of soup while I make dinner. Tonight I will make a veggie cassorole, squash, courgette, leeks, mushroom, peppers, passata and loads of herbs.

mothernature, I do suppose it depends if you like cabbage. I don't like green cabbage, so I do this soup with white cabbage therefore it doesn't take very strong at all. Also being a veggie I probably find this easier than others.

salt · 07/01/2004 16:02

Crunchie - oh I see what you mean, yes I think I will just eat normal fruit tomorrow (might avoid bananas too). I used white cabbage to make my soup as well and I quite like it actually.

It will be difficult tonight as I've ad a rubbish day and would love some comfort food!

Morning, I've only lost 2lb too. People who lose 14lb must be quite big to start with, I think.

I'm supposed to be onmy banana day but am repeating day1 instead. I had to eat a meal last night but kept it to cod fillet and handful of brown rice.

Does anyone else have bad breath? I think I might

I bought 2 bags of frozen fruit (summer and forest) at the start of the week and on fruit days I've been filling 2 little tupperware boxes with the frozen fruit - by about 11am it has defrosted and makes a nice change from fruits that are in season.

I think this week might change the way I eat regularly - for the better I hope.

This diet is meant to be more of a detox than anything else I think. For me anyway, it is meant to kick start good habits such as drinking loads of water and eating less processed food. This is my goal anyway!! So like you beetroot I think I haven't really lost much weight, normally I do lose 5 - 6lbs, however I have only about 8 - 10lbs to lose overall. Also both of us are used to eating reasonaly healthily - being veggie etc - so who knows!!

Also most quick weight loss is only water, but how can this be if I am drinking 2 - 3 l of water as well as at least 1.5 l soup and 3 cups of tea? My theory is that if I lose weight it will be actual fat!!

I had my SW weigh-in last night and I haven't lost anything - but I last weighed in 12 days ago and I knew I was going on this, so I think I may have compensated before I started (if that makes sense!!) My next weigh-in is Monday, so then I'll know for sure at the end of this week how much I have lost.

A batch only lasts me 2 days, my pan isn't big enough for a weeks supply - would need a cauldron!
