won;t go into detail you'll be glad to know(!) but ds2 has D & V, hoping that its just a 24 hr thing rather than this nasty illness that seems to be doing the rounds. Hes fine in himself just sicky and pooey.

What i want to know is, is there anything that i can do to help him? and a really daft question...what do i use to clean up sick from the carpet?... never needed to know till now lol! i know bicarb gets rid of the smell but do i wipe it then use water or disinfectant?? i am embarrassed by my lack of knowledge on that topic loL!

dd has v & d too Sad. Thankfully hasn't been sick on carpet today but was a few weeks ago. I used kitchen towel, 1001 carpet cleaner and then bicarb as suggested by wonderful mn.

Hope you manage to clean it ok and that the v & d doesn't last too long for either of us!

MerlinsBeard · 12/03/2006 19:48

:( delgirl, fingers crossed its just a 24 hr thing

Its cleaned ok but wondered if i needed to do something special lol! can't belive i don't know Blush

why would you? your child's not been sick before. Yeah, lets hope. My dd has been ill since January with one thing after the other (since she started nursery 2 days a week) Has you ds got a high temp as well?

DelGirl · 12/03/2006 19:51

or at least not on your carpet!

MerlinsBeard · 12/03/2006 19:52

no hes fine in himself, a bit mopey and hes not eaten since breakfast. he has had milk tho (hes 11 months)

can't believe i haven't had a sicky bug in the house b4! ds1 is nearly 3 lol!

u have temps too then?

OP posts:
DelGirl · 12/03/2006 19:59

yeah, dd seems to have a high temp every other week. Last week she was on 3 hourly nurofen/calpol for 6 days after advice from the gp. I don't want to keep giving it to her. She'd not had any for 9 days until today and she's only had 3 doses since 3am this morning. She's had milk too and some weetabix and a petit filous, she's also 11 months. She was sick in the night but has kept everything else down but has had some diarroea (sp) but just the temp now. She's on long term anti b's for a urine infection so I wonder if that affects her.

I overheard one of the other mums at the nursery on Friday that her girl had had a tummy upset and thought uh oh at the time! Hey ho.

DelGirl · 12/03/2006 20:02

they tell you that they should only have water with v & d but tbh, I think it would make her feel worse without anything. I don't mind later on when they can tell you that they don't want anything but it's hard when they can't tell you, isn't it?

MerlinsBeard · 12/03/2006 20:02

sorry to hear ur dd has been ill for so long. maybe worth having alook at the side effects of the medicines she has been having, maybe diarrohea (sp?) is one of them?

OP posts:
DelGirl · 12/03/2006 20:04

Possibly, but i've had it a bit too yesterday and today. She's got an appt at the hospital on Thursday so i'll have another chat then. Thanks

calebsmummy · 12/03/2006 20:32

Oh no, MoM, not yours as well!! Have I been passing these bugs through cyber space? You don't wanna talk to me on MSN again Grin

Poor little man, it's horrible when they are poorly. Thankfully Dylan has only had diarrhoea without vomiting (though we have had our fair share of that with Caleb over the last few weeks Sad) Think D has turned a corner today though, eaten well and no explosions.

I just pretty much kept him off food, if he wanted to eat he had toast, breadsticks, biscuit (helps to give them energy a little sugar) and I gave him half strength milk. The doctors etc tell you that you don't need to do that, but I found he was much worse after full strength milk. And I just gave him milk more often as it replaced the fluids.

Umm getting it off the carpet...well thankfully 11 month old sick isn't too bad (not 11 month old sickShock, but from an 11 month old Grin) I just use 1001 and I find that does the trick.

Delgirl - AB's can worsen diarrhoea. And can also cause it. My DS3 had an ear infection along with his diarrhoea, but I coped without AB's as I knew it would make the diarrhoea worse. If it's going on for a long time, then I would cut out milk and dairy for a few days, it could be irritating her tummy.

I hope these small people are better soon (and mine stay well now....pleeeeeeaaaase)

calebsmummy · 12/03/2006 21:02

Hey one good thing about these horrible bugs is that I can spell diarrhoea now Grin Well I think I can [confused emoticon]

DelGirl · 13/03/2006 08:42

well dd's temp has gone down thankfully. She had the last calpol at 10.30 last night and temp normal now 36.8 which is right for her Smile. She had a small bottle of milk but didn't want her weetabix this am and still has diarrhoea so I think it'll be water and maybe toast for a while. Just glad the temp has gone down.

Hope both your ds's are ok too.

MerlinsBeard · 13/03/2006 12:59

Thanks for msgs calebsmummy. lol @ u being able to spell diarrhoea!

Delgril, glad things are looking better for you

things not so good here, thought he was better so went to a party today and ds2 threw up everywhere Blush ds1 then came running in whilst i was covered in sick saying he needed a poo NOW and he has a poorly bum :( DP currently lying on sofa with D &V too and i have an ominous grumbling :( i am hungry and nauseous at same time

calebsmummy · 13/03/2006 14:51

Oh no, no Cowboy Hotpot for you this week then Wink

Awww, big hugs to you all (from afar...don't want it again!) One consolation is that at least you all sem to be getting it together so it won't go on for weeks.

I hope yours is just psychological (I find I always feel like I am getting something cos I dread it so much) and you all get better soon.

BTW Dylan absolutely fine this morning Smile

DelGirl · 14/03/2006 09:27

well, twas a hideous day yesterday on the nappy front plus mega washloads! DD's temp stayed down though thankfully. That's the bit that worries me most is when she has a temp. I can cope fine when her temp is ok. She didn't eat yesterday and I gave her diluted formula and water all day. Nice wet but clean nappy this am so thought hoorah, it's over. Hmmm, gave her a bottle of normal formula and a few spoonfuls of cereal and just as I was thinking we'll be able to go out this afternoon, she promptly threw it all up.

I'm inclined to think it's because it was too much, too soon and too rich rather than the bug still. Does anyone else agree and if so, should I just give diluted formula, water and maybe a biut of toast later??

DelGirl · 14/03/2006 09:28

btw, hope your ds is ok now m o m

DelGirl · 14/03/2006 10:19

hope you dont mind me hijacking this thread Grin

bump

muma3 · 14/03/2006 10:25

dd3 is on her third day of this now. she hasnt eaten for 3 days and has only touched dirolyte and water. she is constantly filling her nappy and they are constantly leaking (pampers baby dry) going through no end of clothes and i cant get rid of the smell. she just isnt herself. doc said 48 hours but it has been longerSad

DelGirl · 14/03/2006 10:31

sorry to hear that Sad. dd's ok in herself which i'm amazed at. If I hadn't eaten since Sunday, i'd be unable to walk I think. Dd is still playing, sort of. I can't get out to get some dioralyte until this afternooon. I'm going to try her with some diluted formula again I think as I can't get a decent amount of water into her, she's 11 months.

muma3 · 14/03/2006 11:06

dd3 is 91/2 months but wont eat or have milk. she isnt crying for it and when itried yesterday she drank an ounze and brought it back up . gp said as long as she is having diorylte then she isnt going to go without the vits and mins she needs so i am just percivering(sp?) . i have changed her 6 times and bathed her twice today already and she doesnt seem to be getting better apart from the sick has stopped. gp said leave it 3 days and if she still hasnt eaten or if the diahrroe hasnt stopped take her backSad

MerlinsBeard · 14/03/2006 11:11

well, my ds was much better yday but after i posted i was horribly ill. Still wobbly but at least not being sick now.
ds1 is ok so far apart from the one incident the other day, but ds2 is back in bed. hes had watered down formula and managed a bowl of weetabix this morning, so we will see how he goes.

Hope it doesn't last much longer for everyone, it is truley horrendous.

Thanks for passing me the virus cyberly calebsmummy Wink yey for Dylan much better

my 2 yr old had it a few weeks ago and we cut out milk altogether as he threw it up every time. only gave him toast and dry biscuits and water. he was in a bad way for 3 days but got over it and is now back on form. it is horrible while you are in it though as they are so forlorn!
my 7mth old now seems to have a mild form of it. squits and is throwing up savoury food, not milk and not pureed fruit and rice...hmm, is the fussiness starting early?!
he has just had a course of ABs for a chest infection, would that make him sick/squit? i reckon he is also abot too get his first tooth, is it really true they get bad nappies when they are teething? i cannot remembebr from ds1. any advise please as i have had to take a day off work kand keep ds2 at home as childminder won't take him when puking. btw, he seems fine in himself and is sleeping ok too. just really gross nappies and the odd chunder.

Tinker · 14/03/2006 14:15

Poo and sick arrived here on Saturday - we've all had a go. What is this diorylte you're all mentioning? Should I be using it. The baby (9.5 months) is only really taking breastmilk. She did eat soem Greek yogurt last night which we thought was progress but, no, sicked it up in her sleep. When will it end?

TheBlonde · 14/03/2006 14:20

it is rehydration sachets - from the chemist

if baby is drinking breastmilk I wouldn't worry
might make you feel better though also works on hangovers

Tinker · 14/03/2006 14:21

Ah, cheers. Think we're ok on teh liquids bit.
