Catching a cold from a teething baby

Every time my son is teething he seems to get a cold with it but I always seem to catch it. I always thought you could only catch colds from viruses. So does this mean that when he's teething he's picking up a virus due to being run down because otherwise surely if it's not a virus then how could he possible pass it on?

My mum and dad as well as myself have managed to catch it and they always seem to be the worst colds of all.

I've had loads of colds in the past but when I get one off my DS whenever he's teething it seems to really hit us all pretty bad which is weird because i'd have thought that we'd be equiped to deal with it better than he is. Last time I got one off him I contracted a sinus infection that lasted for 3 months. This time i've had full blown flu which has now managed to manifest itself into a chest infection which I just can't shift. My DS is coughing loads also. Thank god it's his last 2 teeth as we're tired of picking up these colds and infections off him.

Is this normal?
