I was full-steam ahead about having one until someone told me the fitting was "awful" and that they put some sort of clamp on your cervix?! Sounds like torture!

i had side effects with pill but none with mirena - hav v light periods now last 3- 4 days max and just spotting and not too painfull !

Kidstrack2 · 01/03/2006 20:39

mcmum does the mirena release hormones?

expatinscotland · 01/03/2006 20:40

yes, kids, the mirena secretes a small amount of progesterone - is compatible w/breastfeeding, however.

expatinscotland · 01/03/2006 20:41

no periods at all w/this pill :).

mcmum · 01/03/2006 20:42

kids yes as per expat !what pill are you on ?

expatinscotland · 01/03/2006 20:45

cerazette. i do have some spots, but i had those before i got pregnant, too.

i read too many horror stories about the mirena here i decided against it. i went for an exam to make sure i could get one, and it hurt like a b*stard. so i thought, 'there's NO way i'm getting one of these things put in. ever.'

Kidstrack2 · 01/03/2006 20:50

Mmm won't be having that one then, i need the one that doesn't release anything, i had the implannon in my arm and i bled for 6m solid, had it removed and was on the pill, now off of pill because of mood swings!

carrieholes · 01/03/2006 20:56

was on the pill before i had my 2 then after the 2nd went on the injection after 4 years told me no more so i decided to have the mirena fitted the day i had it done i had the most painful period pains told the doctor he said i could be rejecting it but woke up the next morning with nothing felt wonderful and i have had it in 4 2 years and have had no periods or pain and i will never look back go for it just remember everybodys body reacts different .

notalwaysperfectbutclose · 01/03/2006 20:56

i use yasmin and ove it it agrees with me iyswim

chapsmum · 01/03/2006 20:59

not always perfect there are very few gp's who will prescribe yasmin now it has other side effects not commonly asociated with the pill, although i used it for ages with no problems.

mcmum · 01/03/2006 21:00

Social services are on the way!
Am listening to him cough away on the baby monitor, sound distictly croupy, my house is full of steam and methol, dont know what else to do!!!

mcmum · 01/03/2006 21:08

CHAPSMUM, dont envy you !! have you given calpol ? also he he gets croupy wrap in blanket and stand at door as cold air helps as much if not more than steam, my ds used to get admitted to hosp with croup as he is asthmatic and he got it really bad so im but of expert when it comes to croup, when he passed 12mths i used to giv him robinson lemon barley with hot water (from kettle but cooled) with a spoon full of honey! keep him propped up in cot, when ds was baby and had bad chest/cold i used to sleep him in his car seat in the cot and that helped too! dont let room get too hot as this makes croup worse. giv him big hug off me (O)

chapsmum · 01/03/2006 21:12

he is doped up on medised, that is fab advise his we room is a steam room just now, will go and open the window and see if that helps thans mcmumm

jellyjelly · 01/03/2006 21:27

Jco they can and they do it just happens to hurt more generALly if you havent had your cervix open.

Have never given 'birth' but have had a child but not vaginally as i am very tight or so i have been told and it went in ok.

Bibiboo · 22/03/2006 14:40

Tomorrow's the day - eeeek! I don't want to go, but know I have to.

Not so bad honestly if you have had kids, it's over very quickly, not that much worse than a smear. Do take a couple of paracetamol beforehand and expect some cramping/heavy bleeding for a couple of days - don't try and move house like I did! However it doesn't last long and if you are lucky like me you might not get any more bleeding/periods while you have it in.

Bibiboo · 23/03/2006 12:46

Well I'm alive, but jeepers! It wasn't nice! Cervical clamp - should be called torture implement!!!

I am a big, yellow-bellied wimp!

I had the strings hanging down and boy were they painful when they pricked me in the fanny. thought that might make you feel better.

Finbar · 23/03/2006 14:58

bubblez · 23/03/2006 15:16

ooooooooohhhhhh... i was considering having one fitted...... think i might stick to the pill after reading this.... [extreemly scared face]

Twinkie1 · 23/03/2006 15:18

Took a ibuprofen 600mg just befopre I had it done - think they could have given me a ysterectomy and not felt it!!

Is the best thing in the world - stopped my heavy bleeding each month and saved me a fortune on sanitary products!!
