And I'm really really scared.

Is anyone up to hold my hand and tell me it'll be ok?

Dear stopeatingthatmud thank you for taking the trouble to update. So glad that the different parts of the NHS are working together for your little girl. I hope her seizures get better. Holding hands and saying prayers that she wakes up better.

Just adding, again, my thoughts, prayers and best wishes for you and your family. Pleased to hear she is in the right place now and fingers crossed for a move out of PICU. Scary times, but you will get through this xxxx

Quip · 15/06/2012 20:05

You're all in my prayers. I'm glad that little B is in good hands.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 15/06/2012 21:25

Just checking in Mud....hopefully little B is doing well...she sounds like a proper tough cookie fighting them! I hope the ventilator comes off asap....it's always the little tough nuts who put up a fight against the doctors and nursed according to my friend who is an ICU nurse. She sounds like an amazingly strong baby.

xxxHugs for you and B.

Lcy · 15/06/2012 21:52

Gosh I feel for you. I can't imagine how hard this is for you and your DH. I am so glad you got some sleep xxx

hellymelly · 15/06/2012 23:45

Checking in again, I am thinking about your little girl all the time , and I wish there was something I could do to help. Hope things are on the up now.

Rosa · 16/06/2012 06:16

It sounds as if B is in capable hands and so glad you got some sleep it will help both of you. Positive thoughts for a positive day....

oricella · 16/06/2012 08:08

hi, still here thinking of you.. sorry to see things didn't get better and a transfer was necessary, but glad you were able to get some sleep.. I found PICU a strangely calming environment.. actually felt lost when we made it to the wards

Have they given a forecast on treatment yet? IIRC my DD (pneumococcal as well) was on benzylpenicilin and cefotaxime IV for 2 weeks

beatofthedrum · 16/06/2012 08:20

Good morning, sending a hug and hoping there's some positive news for you xxx

SpanglyGiraffe · 16/06/2012 09:00

Just checking in again. I've got everything crossed for you & your little B. You're all ok my thoughts x

StopEatingThatMud · 16/06/2012 09:22

Morning,

B had a good night last night. She slept from about 8 til 3, woke up for an hour then slept again til about 8 after we got here. She's on regular calpol but nothing stronger and of course her antibiotics.

They're talking about maybe moving her onto the ward today. Doctors rounds start at 9.30 so we should know more after that.

Oricella, nothing specific yet. She's on Cef and another one beginning with A that they started yesterday. Initially they were saying 2 weeks IV in hospital then back in as a day patient for continuing doses. Given what's happened since and as we're now a week in I think that may be extended but I guess it may depend on how the fluid collection on her brain responds and if she has any more fits.

I've been much happier while B has been on PICU too, I think knowing she's getting the very best 1:1 care has meant I can relax and having had 2 full nights sleep has made a massive difference to how I feel.

How old is your DD now and hows she doing? Sorry, I know you've probably said upthread but my memory isn't at its best at the moment!!

Glad she had a good night mud

PeanutButterCupCake · 16/06/2012 10:14

Glad B had a settled night and you managed some sleep Smile

Hoping she gets back to the ward later, scary but is a step towards home and they will only discharge her if she's improved.

Thanks Brew

Madsometimes · 16/06/2012 10:16

Mud, I know that things have been up and down for B so it's too early to say that she has turned a corner, but this sounds cautiously optimistic. I'm so pleased that you have managed to catch up on sleep, and are feeling more human. The PICU staff sound fantastic, and I'm sure that B will be well looked after if she is well enough to go to the ward.

kingbeat23 · 16/06/2012 10:16

Thinking of you Mud and B. Hopefully this is the start of the good and onwards and upwards from here on in x

ripsishere · 16/06/2012 10:19

That does sound hopeful. Keeping you in my thoughts.

Buntingbunny · 16/06/2012 10:24

Checking and glad to hear positive news,

oricella · 16/06/2012 10:40

Hi Mud - that sounds encouraging. DD was 7 weeks when she got it and, now at 3, is absolutely fine. She also had quite a bit of fluid on the brain, but any effects that had (the droopy arm, slightly strange muscle tone for a while) seemed to have rewired itself. She was sedated and ventilated for 3 days, but once she came off recovered remarkably quickly. Initially they were aiming for 3 weeks of AB, but it was reduced to 2. The difficult thing at that age was that so young they don't really do much yet, so it was impossible to tell if and how she'd been affected. She was also closely monitored for hearing loss, but all OK there as well (apart from endless ear infections).

Lcy · 16/06/2012 11:17

Just checking in to see how you are getting on. So glad you and little B have had a better night.

beatofthedrum · 16/06/2012 12:19

Very glad to hear some positive news. You sound really quite amazingly strong. Am so pleased she sounds more comfortable xx
