Ooh that's spooky MAS. Our smoke detector's bleeping too...

SparkleRainbow · 11/06/2012 11:00

Ok I can freak you out too....our smoke alarm started off this morning!

Hi guys, sorry to have been awol again. Half term is over now, so will have a little time to pop in again. I am going to have a scan back with a nice Brew anyone else want one?

PessimisticMissPiggy · 11/06/2012 11:32

smee thanks that's reassuring to know. My DM would be holding my ed telling me not to be so bloody pessimistic

PessimisticMissPiggy · 11/06/2012 11:35

ed = hand.

Please excuse me I'm on my mobile at work.

smee · 11/06/2012 11:38

Waving to Sparkle. How was half term. Is DS in good health atm? Smile

PMissP, it's definitely far more treatable these days. When I was diagnosed (2 years ago), I immediately assumed I'd be dead sometime soon. That was based on seeing a couple of my mother's close friends die from it. I've been amazed though how things have changed. I'm not saying it can't get you, because of course it can, but the odds are much better these days. I reckon you need Amber with her reassuring stats. Amber, are you out there?

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/06/2012 12:08

waving to sparkle ! hoper you and dcs had a good half term... very spooky about smoke/fire alarms Shock !

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 11/06/2012 12:11

PMissP - smee speaks wise words, hopefully amber will be along shortly, with her equally reassuring statistics.

Smee - Ds is doing ok, it has been an up and down week, needed fairly substantial pain meds this morning to get to school. We came down to London last week, so I took him to the Natural History Museum, we borrowed one of their wheel chairs for him, and that wa fab, gave him the opportunity to really enjoy the museum and see as much as possible.

SparkleRainbow · 11/06/2012 12:12

MAS - Our smoke alarms are in tune, iyswim, given that no smoke alarm is tuneful!! Is ds back safely from his trip?

smee · 11/06/2012 12:18

Sparkle, wheelchair sounds like a good idea. How does he react to that. I know from all you've said that he's fiercely independent, so can imagine he might not like the idea of being put in one. Hope he gets through the day today then. Must be impossible for you to see him in pain all the time. Sad

SparkleRainbow · 11/06/2012 12:21

He loved the chair, he was very reflective and said, he'd rather not need one, but this way he could see everything!!! I hate seeing him in pain, it is just awful.

amberlight · 11/06/2012 12:58

I'm here! Hello PMissP. Heck re loss of your Mum Sad but fear ye not re modern odds of survival. All the new treatment regimes have happened in the last few years and are making huge difference to outcomes. Even if it's spread into another bit of the body the odds are 82% positive now. And if it's just in the chest, more like 95%. And of course 9 out of 10 lumps turn out not to be cancer at all. So the odds of it being something really rudely behaved for DH are around 1 in 100 at the mo.

We are here to hold your hands/provide ample virtual goodies from the snack trolley.

Hi all.

Sparkle, heck re wheelchair situation, but there's days when I'm close to needing one myself now. When will they invent proper pain relief Hmm ?!
How hard can it be!! Grr.

smee · 11/06/2012 13:00

Well that's wisely pragmatic of him. And also can imagine it made your day a whole lot brighter. Can guess you spend the whole time worrying he'll tire himself out, so a wheelchair must have been a great help.

smee · 11/06/2012 13:02

x-posted with sanity inducting Amber. I do love those stats. Smile

PessimisticMissPiggy · 11/06/2012 13:27

Amber yes, that does sounds more optimistic. My DM started Tamoxifen in the mid 90's but stopped after 2 years after a DVT.

When it returned in 00 she was given

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/06/2012 13:30

bless junior sparkle - my boy is back and now going into a GCSE Maths exam poor love- hope he doesn't fall asleep over his equations..
chocolate raisins for the fbs trolley -(they've been to New York and back because T forgot to eat them !)

smee · 11/06/2012 13:32

Tsk, MAS. Is that the best you can do??

PMissP, good for your mum. 5 years is v.good going, especially then. Keep nattering to us. You can be as freaked as you like on here. We totally get how scary it all is.

Gigondas · 11/06/2012 13:33

Welcome miss piggy- sorry you are in this worrying wait but I hope Amber's reassurance has helped.

Shoulder pain is strained trapezoid muscle so it's painkillers and exercise for me.

New nanny started today and she seems lovely. Kids seem to like her too.

What questions do I need to ask re chemo/picc lines? Got chat with my care nurse.

KurriKurri · 11/06/2012 13:35

hello MissPiggy - I'm sorry to hear that your DH is having problems at the moment. But he is doing the right thing getting it investigated, I know its very worrying for you both, especially with you losing your Mum, but fingers crossed it will be nothing sinister - there's a good chance of that. And if it does turn out to be something that needs further treatment, BC is very treatable and treatment are advancing at quite a rate. I was DX years ago, and things have changed and improved quite a bit since I had my treatment.

The worse thing is the waiting game when it comes to tests and so on, once you know where you stand and what needs to be done, it gets a bit easier to get your head round it all.

Anyway stick with us, and hopefully we can give you a bit of support (and of course your DH is very welcome to come on here if he wants to ask any questions, or just talk through his worries Smile)

Ned well done for surviving the MIL - its a shame she is unpleasant and hard work, - makes life a bit stressful.
The chocolates sound lovely and I'm sure they'll be appreciated by the nurses Smile

Smee - that cove is fab, - I'd love to live somewhere like that, - I'd wear shorts all year round and eat seaweed and be a total hermit Grin

Sparkle - I'm glad DS was able to enjoy the museum, and how very mature of him to cope with using the wheelchair, he is such a trooper. My DD's best friend has the same syndrome that your DS has (I think it is the same at least - EDS is what she has), and she is contemplating a wheelchair, atm she copes on crutches but is in a lot of pain. I am full of admiration for your little lad and you having to deal with it, its very tough Sad

Good luck to T for his exam MAS, poor chap must be exhausted, but I expect adrenaline will get him through the exam then he can fall asleep as soon as he gets home!

Saw a nasty cycle accident on the way in to yoga this morning, - DH and I stopped to help, and had to wait for the police and paramedics because we'd witnessed the accident. Luckily the young lad wasn't too badly hurt, just bruised and very shaken, and had hurt his knee.

Fortunately I had my yoga blanket in the car, so I damaged his street cred by wrapping a bright pink fleecy blanket round him. And I told him off for not having helmet - he probably wished it had been anyone rather than me that stopped!

KurriKurri · 11/06/2012 13:40

x-posted, - Neck sounds painful Gig, but the exercizes will help - even though it can be a bit uncomfortable doing them, its worth persevering.

You will probably get a folder full of info about chemo when you have your chat, if you are offered a line, I would take it (I didn't have one and wish I had been offered one).

KurriKurri · 11/06/2012 13:41

oh for goodness sake - I mean exercises, - I thought it looked wrong when I typed it!

Gigondas · 11/06/2012 13:55

Thanks kurri- they are offering a line . Also folder seems to be full of stuff that has been mentioned on here.

I am sort of resigned about it now.

smee · 11/06/2012 13:56

Gig, shoulder sounds ouch. Last thing you need atm. Can you swim?? That helps a lot whenever mine gets stuck. Which chemo are you having? Do you know yet?

SparkleRainbow · 11/06/2012 14:05

Paramedic Kurri, with pink fleecy blanket to hand. Grin I am sure he was very grateful. You are right it is EDS that ds has, small world.

MAS - hope ds gets through exam ok, he probably needs to sleep for 36 hours to get himself round!

Why do you have to exercise the starined muscle Gig, surely a bit of rest, feet up on sofa and fbs trolley is what is needed? Fingers crossed for new nanny....I have missed what happened to the old one, did you finally reach the end of your tether?

SparkleRainbow · 11/06/2012 14:05

strained obviously!

PessimisticMissPiggy · 11/06/2012 14:13

Thanks for the reassurance all. I'm smiling about the yoga blanket.

Thankfully our dd Is at that lovely age where everything she does makes me smile (13m) and I'm so looking forward to collect her from nursery at 5pm.

Hope everyone has a lovely pm.
