here we go...

Zut alors! tried in vain to post a while back, now tucked up where i belong (in bed), and will try again. Yhough connection v dodgy here - too far frm router, or we're too far from 'whatever' (word has gone), with too many hills around. You get the drift.

I wanted to say to Autumn - children have an amazing ability to adore their mammy whatever she looks like. They are programmed to love you. It will bother you if you have scarring more than it will bother them. And the surgeons will try very hard to use natural lines that are already on your face and neck to get at your lump. Also they might do some some stitches internally. Sorry, a bit vague and too tired to do better, and I know you're a young thing but I hope you know what i mean about lines. Everyone has them, no matter how young, 'unfat' etc.

I've read all your words, some good, some not so good, and send my best wishes and as much cake as this lot, my 'housemates', will spare you. ( I have 4 boys - I have some fellow feeling with Jennie's dh - no cats here but if there were I'm sure they'd be big toms!).

In deference to gig and mr gig, in Paris, sans enfants, I think, and because I can ..... Bonne nuit, tout le monde!!

smee · 01/06/2012 09:27

Morning all. Brew on the go. How are we all today? I've just dropped Henry V at school Grin

KurriKurri · 01/06/2012 09:39

Hope you said 'Once more into the breach...' as you waved him off Smee Grin

I was supposed to go to keep fit today, but my neck is very sore, so I'm sitting drinking coffee instead Smile

crumpets on the trolley (with jam or marmite, take your pick)

MJennieJ · 01/06/2012 09:43

marmite every time :)
yummy

KurriKurri · 01/06/2012 09:52
  • that's what I had on mine too, Smile

I think I've got addicted to marmite and lettuce sandwiches - I've had one every lunchtime this week!

NedSchneebly · 01/06/2012 09:57

Morning all! Crumpet and jam please kurri!

Just got back from dentist - does anyone know if I am OK to have a filling and a possible extraction during chemo? I have a persistent ulcer in th very corner of my gum/mouth and dentist says oddly growing wisdom tooth is rubbing and should be removed to solve the problem and allow the ulcer to heal. Also need filling repair elsewhere. It will be 5 days before chemo. Any thoughts?

Hope everyone is OK this morning x x x

KurriKurri · 01/06/2012 10:02

Ned - I was told to keep invasive dentistry to the minimum during chemo, I presume because of the infection risk. But I guess it depends on the urgency, - you can't hang on for ages with toothache, - what does your dentist say? (might be worth asking the chemo unit for advice).

Removing a wisdom tooth might be rather a big job while on chemo, but maybe the filling would be OK to have done?

I broke a tooth during chemo and needed a crown, but my dentist just did a temporary filling (no drilling) to tide me over until I'd finished chemo.

Baskets45 · 01/06/2012 10:15

Ned - just a quickie as haven't got dressed yet (tired day here, it's been a busy few days, by my standards ....). In view if your problems with neutrophilia during chemo, I'd be especially cautious about invasive dentistry. Did you tell dentist you'd been in hospital? twice?! You could talk to chemo unit yourself, but also dentist could/maybe should talk to your docs professional to professional, if in doubt. Isn't ti nearly your last dose of chemo soon? So you should be able to get it all sorted 'properly' quite soon.

graciesmall09 · 01/06/2012 10:15

Morning all, would love a crumpet and jam kurri if there are any left. Boy this syringe driver really does the job.

ned I was told to have a dentist examination pre-chemo as my onc said he really didn't want me needing any work during treatment and told me especially an abscess would be very hard to treat Might be best to speak to your onc before getting any dental worth done. If it itsn't urgent you could always wait until after your LAST CHEMO WHICH IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER [GRIN]

Morning to everyone. I suppose gigs is lapping up the lovely Frence sunshine (or possible packing her bag with nice fbs for her chums at home), topsy is probably making lists of ways to spend her winnings and hrh has probably decided to have a lie in before her big weekend. Enjoy everyone.

topsyturner · 01/06/2012 10:18

No to the dentistry Ned .
If its an emergency , speak to your chemo unit . They might want you on a course of anti bs before treatment or poss refer you to hospital dental unit .

Who has crumpets and marmite ?

Over did it this morning .
Hoovered .
Can't believe quite how weak I am .
Ridiculous !

KurriKurri · 01/06/2012 10:31

You're OK topsy - minty aero = mint= herb =one of your five a day Smile

Put that hoover away woman and settle down - you'll knock yourself back if you overdo things. If you're going to use energy at least make sure it's doing something nice, not hoovering - pfffft!

morning baskets and gracie - plenty of crumpets left (found a load in the freezer which I must have bought when they were bogof)

smee · 01/06/2012 10:36

Ned, I was told not to have any work done during chemo by my dentist, as the drugs can affect your gums. I ended up with a teeny bit of gum disease by the end of it. All sorted now, but was yet another bloody side effect.

Marmite & Lettuce sandwiches..?! Kurri you are puts it politely unique. Grin

Though am more shocked by Topsy hoovering. Get back to the sofa woman.

Baskets45 · 01/06/2012 11:08

of course i meant neutropenia, not philia. Note to self - dn't use big words when not concentrating.

Crumpets sound good, REALLY good. Maybe keep one/ some till I get back. Please? I feel sl sick just now. Off to med centre shortly to get bloods done. i can feel almighty 'strop' coming on, shoudl i find my notes aren't up to date and HCA asks me yet again to go through my history and say exactly which tests doc wants me to have. Not her fault and GP is lovely, and probably very busy, but I just want a quick and simple experience today, no massive bruises, no questions, no muddle, no dealy while she runs round building looking for doc. Muddles have happaend before at this place, you see, more than once, and I don't want it today. Small fry, I know, just how I feel today. So stressed I might have to do some cleaning when I come back up the road. This says it all really.

I have just groundd ds3 who had plans to meet GF this afternoon. She sits last Higher as we speak; he finishes next Th. He needs good grades and has lots of revision to do. He is grateful, in a kind of a way, I think/hope. Toddlers are lovely, so straightforward.

Bye for now.

PS, Topsy, no wonder you are tired. You've been through alot lately. Duct tape at the ready.

xxxx

Baskets45 · 01/06/2012 11:10

Marmite and lettuce here too. KK not that unique. Maybe it's a 'linked with Scotland' thing?

Sometimesiwonder · 01/06/2012 11:19

Yep, Ned, dentistry needs to be kept to an absolute minimum. Sorry.

Autumn - you do sound like you have a mountain to climb, but don't worry about the kids' reaction. They will just love their Mum whatever - and I'll bet the scars will soon fade and you'll look great. x

Baskets - hugs and positive vibes coming your way.

Trip yesterday went completely fine - we stopped for a walk about half way and there were no problems. We had a nice (if virtuous Hmm ) salad lunch, and came back with some new plans. Saw five hares in a field on the way down! I think hares are my very, very favourite wild animal, just because years can go by without ever seeing one. Though there were loads in Islay last year, I must admit.

KurriKurri · 01/06/2012 11:46

thank you baskets - its nice to know I am not quite as mad as everyone thinks Grin Good luck with the doctors appointment - hope its not too stressful. Have you reached any conclusions about your holiday yet?

Hares are lovely Sometimes - I never saw any until we came to live in Norfolk, - but they like it here because of the flat open fields I think. (I suspect some of them have been eating my plants, but I will forgive them because they are beautiful Grin)

Talking of wildlife, - we have a pair of collared doves trying to make a nest somewhere on our roof. But they seem to be a bit hopeless at it, - every morning I find loads of twigs scattered all over the ground just outside my front door, - I brush them up and within a couple of hours there are more, - they just keep dropping stuff.

(I was blaming our ghastly neighbours - thought they were throwing twigs over the fence Grin - before I discovered the real culprits.)

HRHQueenMaryAnnSingleton · 01/06/2012 11:55

marmite and watercress is my favourite combo- or peanut butter & watercress- lovely stuff watercress and hugely healthy !
Hope you can make an informed decision on the dentistry ned - and hope it isn't painful if you have to wait....
Am going to nip out to shops quickly, then later am collecting my charge from rounders club. Got a card to finish too.
Love to all- chocolate cookies on the trolley Smile

HRHQueenMaryAnnSingleton · 01/06/2012 11:56

aw,collared doves are so sweet- we have loads on our bird feeders, fortunately our assorted cats are too slow to grab any.

HRHQueenMaryAnnSingleton · 01/06/2012 11:57

good luck too with bloods baskets

KurriKurri · 01/06/2012 12:36

Have PM'd you MAS Smile

KurriKurri · 01/06/2012 12:42

Have PM'd you Topsy. Smile

Sometimesiwonder · 01/06/2012 13:39

Ooh, is it my card, MAS?

Collared doves are v messy nesters. We have lots of those around here. Such lovely colours though - not sure what to call that greyish pink but it is very nice. Dusty pink, possibly?

Baskets45 · 01/06/2012 13:40

Och, I'm fine. Doc had clearly written a spiel as hca sat reading for ages, looking v serious (that kind of freaked me out, but I know the gist of what's there so not a shock really). Odd when no small talk, but this one doesn't chat much so that's fine too, to be expected. Then she gathered her blood tubes, took the blood first time, all very effortless. She is v good at taking blood. Last time, different nurse, I had bruises and sore arm for 3 weeks.Shocked: Shock Felt a bit hot and sweaty but i had on my winter wear, and the sun is out again. And jeans getting a bit tight. Too many FBS. I know I am being retested for blood borne viruses, which I am unlikely to have (Hep B and C), as tested negative for those a decade or so ago, when nall this palaver began, and no new exposures since then. But mistakes can happen and I will be furious if that ahs happened, as they will have been fannying around for all those years when i could ahve had effective treatment, while my condition progressing. One step at at time, everyone ....

On way home I dropped into Coop to get toilet cleaner (what i really want is a toilet cleaner, as in a person to clean, not justa bottle of bleachy detergent). So some raisin and cinnamon bagels on trolley.

Holidays - not sure about budget, but think if we do go away I could go without insurance IF I could find ds4's EU card which has been awol since the last trip. ds1 came back last weekend, reminded me he needed help (ie £150 for trsain and accom - no doubt nearer time he'll need beer money too)to get to cousin's stag do, 2 nights in York. The hen do is one night in Glasgow. The old hens (ie mums and aunties are invited too).Wedding is in august and all my boys need shoes - all they ahve are wellies and trainers. I'd forgotten the small matter of nephew's nuptials which will be lovely event _ they are lovely couple - and I am looking forward to shin dig. I must just organise something and then go. Money will be fine enough ......

I'm off now to check wednesday's washing which is still out - got a good 'rinse' yesterday. Lots ot do. xxx

Baskets45 · 01/06/2012 13:54

Hares. lots of them here too, and we are in hilly country. When we first moved to Perthshire we lived ina field (well, in a cottage in a field). Now in town so fewer opportunities but I do love to see them running around. Islay a lovelyisland too. wE HAD TRIP THERE A FEW YEARS AGO. Sorry, . Cap locks on, not angry at any of youBig grin: :o . very windy there. Boys were amused to see birds flying backwards, or so it seemed!!

Not very good at this posting malarkey, esp the emoticon mallarkey. Either I need more practice or to give up ....
