To go to the loo a few times in the night.

Thingiebob · 18/02/2012 21:18

I keep reading on here how it's unusual or strange for an adult to get up and go to the loo in the night.

I know my SIL has an issue about me going at night when I stay at her house and it is often commented on when I stay at my mother's and friends.
I try to be quiet, I really do, but I wondered if it really is that unusual.

I am not pregnant, I am on a number of drugs but I've always needed to pass water in the night.

I probably go about twice and I drink nearly a pint of water at night as well.

I'm not diabetic either.

Anyone else wee a lot at night? Or think this is strange?

I often go in the night. I am not pregnant neither do I have a weak bladder.

Always been like it, even as a kid.

TessTosterone · 18/02/2012 21:20

When not pregnant I go 2-3 times a night. Currently now pregnant can be up to every hour. I can't ever remember not going. It used to worry me when I slept over at friends houses as a child so it's normal for me.

duckdodgers · 18/02/2012 21:20

Nope, I get up once during the night to, Im not on any medication. A bit of a pain but at least I get back to sleep mostly.

TheFeministsWife · 18/02/2012 21:38

I get up to go around 2-3 times a night too. Not pregnant and not on any medication. I've been like that since I was a teenager.

Tee2072 · 18/02/2012 21:39

It depends but if I don't get up in the middle of the night, I get up very early instead and then go back to bed.

pranma · 18/02/2012 21:40

I usually go once in the night and very occasionally twice.

troisgarcons · 18/02/2012 21:41

All the time! At least twice a night.

bushymcbush · 18/02/2012 21:43

When not pregnant I usually get up once, occasionally twice. At the moment it's almost ever hour (pregnant).

izzyizin · 18/02/2012 21:43

Are you taking any diuretic drugs? Why do you drink a pint of water at night?

Grockle · 18/02/2012 21:45

Me too! Always once a night (since having DS) and often 2-3 times. No idea why - age? I'm mid-30s. I am now on an assortment of medication for various issues and none make a difference to this.

Blu · 18/02/2012 21:46

I always go about twice.
It feels like a blissful night's sleep if I only go once.

Sapphirefling · 18/02/2012 21:46

At least once, usually twice. I also drink a huge amount of water in the night but I get so thirsty. No health problems and able to pee all night in peace now that twatty ex isn't constantly commenting on how 'abnormal' it is.

Grockle · 18/02/2012 21:46

I am on diuretics btw but taken in the morning so doesn't impact night-time weeing. If anything, diuretics have helped - now I go for a good & proper wee rather than millions of mini-wees Blush

MrsPresley · 18/02/2012 21:49

I used to get up 2/3 times a night but I also went to the loo about 20 times a day.

It wasn't till a friend said she thought this was a lot (I thought it was normal) that I went to see the doctor.

She said I had an over active bladder and prescribed Solifenacin and what a difference.

I actually feel "normal" now, can go shopping without constantly thinking about where the nearest toilets are.

I still go to the toilet some nights but only once and most nights I dont.

Dozer · 18/02/2012 21:53

It's not ideal, as disrupts sleep cycles etc. Also, people get used to coping, but this isn't necessarily best for long-term health.

After dd1 I always had to go lots in the day and at least once in the night, turns put had undiagnosed bladder / uterine adhesions from a C-section, sorted out during C-section for DD2, now fine. I had just got used to it, but now OK realise that it wasn't good.

Shutupanddrive · 18/02/2012 21:58

I never used to, but find after having the dc's that I do normally go at least once. I have mastered it in the dark without hardly opening my eyes!

Grockle · 18/02/2012 22:05

Oh, I easily go 20 times a day. Maybe more like 10-12 now I'm on diuretics. I did mention it to GP but he seems to think it is depression-related (everything is. I think if my leg fell off, he'd say 'I think you may be depressed')

Lueji · 18/02/2012 22:08

I only go 3 times a day. Never during the night.

Are you sure you are not diabetic?

fortyplus · 18/02/2012 22:11

Lueji 3 times a day isn't normal, either - you need to drink more!

squeakytoy · 18/02/2012 22:27

I only go about 3 or 4 times a day, and have done all my life... I drink plenty....

I wouldnt drink a pint of water during the night, as that would make me want to get up and wee.

cambridgeferret · 18/02/2012 22:53

Growing up in parents' house with prospect of a trip downstairs in the pitch black to find the sole loo...I had bladder muscles of steel then.
Usually once in the night now we have an en-suite.

tardisjumper · 18/02/2012 22:58

I go once a night sometimes. I go through phases. There is nothing wrong with me.

It really annoys me that people comment. It is unbelivably rude and potentially embarrassing. They wouldn't mention it if you had the squits!!!! IBS is not something you criticise by apparently overactive bladder is.

ballstoit · 18/02/2012 23:01

I only wee in the night if I've drunk more than a couple of units of alcohol in the evening.

I don't think this is normal, and don't see how it is depression related Confused. Although, having said that, I could see that constantly interrupted sleep could be a contributing factor to depression. Have you considered changing GP?

puds11 · 18/02/2012 23:02

twice a night like clock work and im only 24

eurochick · 18/02/2012 23:03

I find it changes for me through the month. When I am retaining water, I don't need to go. When my hormones decide that I am not retaining it any more, it needs to come out and I often end up getting up (once) in the night.
