..It really hurt when i did a wee and the dull achey feeling i had in my lower back and tummy was, i thought, due to the fact that AF was on her way (should have arrived sunday).
Anyway, went to go to the gym this am and i felt so ill and so achey, i cant remember when my body felt so weak and tired actually, its a struggle to get up, so i gave the gym a miss but now i feel even worse!
Do you think this sounds like an infection rather than simple cystitis? Is there something i can get over the counter for this or is a trip to the drs?

Not at all. Is weeing still hurting?

georginars · 24/01/2006 13:18

Try to get to the GP - could well be a kidney infection and they can be very nasty (i have been there!). Aches and fever go with kidney infections, better to be safe than sorry!

Nixz · 24/01/2006 13:18

Yes and even though im trying to drink copious amounts of water, it still burns like hell!

Get it checked out at the doctors. It could be a kidney infection, and if it is then the sooner you see the doctor the better.

Lonelymum · 24/01/2006 13:19

Oh ring the GP and be seen today. Don't take no for an answer. I too have had a kidney inection and cystitis moretimes than I remember - it is not trivial at all.

Nixz · 24/01/2006 13:20

A kidney infection?
So would that be just a course of unclebiotics to clear it up?

Sounds like cystitis to me. I went through a period of repeatedly getting it and my temperature would go haywire, I would get all shaky and come out in a cold sweat, and very weak and tired.

I would go to the gp's tbh - last time I had it I went to gp's and she was shocked by how much blood there was in my urine. I needed anti b's IIRC.

melrose · 24/01/2006 13:20

I used to get Cystitis all the time and although unpleasent never felt "ill" as such so def think it is worth getting to the GP, in the mean time drink as much water as you can and lots of cranberry juice if you have some as will stop the wee hurting as much

georginars · 24/01/2006 13:21

yes prob antibiotics, but get drinking lots of water ASAP as well. I suppose cranberry juice, which they tell you to drink for cystitis, would probably help if it's kidney infection too. Def get drinking though!

Lonelymum · 24/01/2006 13:21

Yes ABs will clear it up but do please ring your GP now and don't be put off until tomorrow. I have been so so so ill with complications from this.

Nixz · 24/01/2006 13:22

I too have had cysitis once or twice but to be honest, its usually gone in 24hrs.
Im wondering if the achey feeling is due to AF tho?

OP posts:
Lonelymum · 24/01/2006 13:22

No, I imagine you have a temperature. Honestly, don't hang about!

Nixz · 24/01/2006 13:22

i will call gp - better to be safe.

Oh phew, I was getting panicky for you! Let us know how you go.

WigWamBam · 24/01/2006 13:23

If you are feeling ill with it then you need to go to the doctors. If it's a kidney infection they are very nasty and get worse very, very quickly.

Do as you're told

Nixz · 24/01/2006 13:23

Thanks Lonelymum for your support

Rickman - i have some fertility problems so the likelihood of me being pregnant are very very slim.
My cycle is not very regular so i am not 'worried' by being a day late.

Get back on the phone!

georginars · 24/01/2006 13:27

yes and make the dragon receptionists give you an appointment, as WWB says kidney infections get worse very quickly and they are truly vile

Oh yikes, definitely sounds like kidney infection, you will feel shocking if so, but the antibiotics work very fast. I have had this several times including on New Years Eve 1999/2000 . It's when the cystitis goes untreated and travels up the tubes, I think. If it does turn out to be a kidney infection I would advise you to get every bout or possible bout of cystitis treated with antibiotics as I found the infection just kept spreading each time. Hot water bottle on the back helps in the mean time, but don't hang about getting the doctor - it's a nasty infection

Nixz · 24/01/2006 13:30

Rickman - please dont apologise - i am greatful for your feedback, theoretically - yes i could be pregnant but sadly real life always prevails!!!!
I have an appt for 3pm, hate the drs
is it just a wee in a cup test?
