DS1 has been to A&E today, he has had very high temps, and has been diagnosed with an inner ear infection...

I dont know if this is linked but it is cause him pain..

His testicles are red and very tender, I have just put a nappy on him for bed and my fingers just brushed them and he flinched and cried out that it hurt. They are very hot (his temp atm is 103) but extreamly tender. He said it doesnt hurt when he wees but hurts to sit, lie down and roll over,

whats causing the pain?? What can I do?? He has been having calpol to reduce temp but it doesnt seem to be helping ease the pain in his testicles.

I hate seeing him in pain. Am tempted to go back to A&E and demand a cure

I don't know if this will reassure you or not but when my dh has an infection or is ill, like a couple of weeks ago he had Gastric Flu, his testicles hurt. He actually commented on it and said it was everytime he feels unwell they hurt.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 21/01/2006 22:01

Maybe thats cause there are glands in the groin that swell when there is an infection in the body? Like they do in the neck. I hadnt thought of that, thanks for reminding me NBG

And thats Hausfrao, for helping

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 21/01/2006 22:15

Thanks iota

Just called MHS but will have a long wait as they said 2 hours to call me back.

Me feeling slightly desperate at this point asks if he has any advice in the mean time..

"sorry, im not medically trained" says he..

"yes, but youve got some" says me

He recommened a cold compress.

Poor baby, I dont know what to do.

It might just be swollen glands, Tamba - if so, they will go down as he gets better.

Hope you get an answer from NHS Direct soon ... you're really going through the mill at the mo, aren't you!

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 21/01/2006 22:19

I am getting v.stressed wiggy...

Out of hours docters isnt answering.. what do I have to do to get medical advice?????

DS2 crying, think hes coming down with it. Ds1 wide awake in my bed with me, just lying there, not at all himself wincing each time he moves

Darling, if you are as worried as you sound then get him down to A&E and get someone to have a look.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 21/01/2006 22:24

Ive already been there once today - they said he had an inner ear infection but didnt need anti-bs

Ive called NHS direct 3 times over the last few days..

They are going to think I have munchousans by-proxy or something and call SS on me if im not careful!!!

I am tempted to go to A&E but dh is at work, I have both kids, dont drive and its late.

Nightmare!

starlover · 21/01/2006 22:25

agree with wwb! take him down to a&e

WigWamBam · 21/01/2006 22:27

But this is something else that he hadn't presented with at the time you went. They weren't looking at his testicles at the time.

Please don't worry about feeling like a paranoid mum, or thinking that they'll label you - your primary concern is your son's health and if you can't get any joy from your emergency GP then what option do you have?

Can dh get home from work to help you out? Otherwise can you get a taxi to A&E?

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 21/01/2006 22:29

I could call dh (he would be annoyed but not angry, he knows ds comes first) it would take him over an hour to get home though.

I havent got the money for a taxi, but I do have dhs credit card so could ask the driver to stop at a cash point.

Why is ds always poorly when dh is on nights?? sods law! they doc his pay too the tossers!

Nbg · 21/01/2006 22:31

I don't suppose you have one of those gel filled feme pads do you?

WigWamBam · 21/01/2006 22:31

If it were me, I would ring him and ask him to come home and get ds to the hospital. He's obviously in pain and I really think it should be checked out.

Is there anyone who could have ds2 for you - a friend, neighbour?

soapbox · 21/01/2006 22:34

I suspect it is just a side effect of having a horrid infection.

Double dose him with calpol and neurofen and see if that does the trick.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 21/01/2006 22:35

Is a femme pad a sanitary towel? I have tampax but i dont think they will help (oh well at lweast i have a sense of humour...)

I will call dh. I dont know any of the neighbours round here, I have spoken to the woman next door the other day when i wanted to borrow her phone (to call nhs direct last time!!!) but wouldnt trust her with Michael. I will have to get him up. Im sure he will think its a great adventure.

OP posts:
starlover · 21/01/2006 22:37

it's a fantastic adventure!
hope he's ok though... let us know!

Nbg · 21/01/2006 22:38

You could damp some tissue in cold water and put it in his nappy/pants just to keep them cool and relieve any discomfort.

Have you called your emergency doctor too. Call your own gpand they should have a number left on their answer machine of who to call.

I have the number for Primecare but I don't know if they operate in your area. I can give you it if you want.

Flossam · 21/01/2006 22:45

HI Tamba, sorry it took me a while. It could be several things, main things I can think of would be infections, ?thrush, bacterial. I don't know how old DS1 is (sorry) but I'm thinking he wouldn't be teething anymore? What squash is he drinking? Could it be making his urine more acidic? I think a doctor needs to look him over. Has the calpol reduced the temperature? If it is below 39/40, I would be tempted to visit docs in the morning. Try to cool the area as others have suggested and wait for NHS direct to ring back with further advice. Just a thought, do you have any of those cool and sooth sheets? They don't have to be used just on the forehead!!

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 21/01/2006 22:53

Our out of hours service is the badger unit and they are not answering the bloody phone grrrrrrr.

Just left a message with dh's boss for him to call me, he should phone back soon. could hear the sigh in his voice "yes, i'll get him" whilst thinking "omg its her again, no doubt the kid is poorly yet again...yeah right..."

I tried to put something cool in his nappy but he wont let me anywhere near them.

DH just called

Said that i sounded worried so to call his mom to watch Michael (no good shes away..) then suggested calling my mom (will try that) He cant come home until after midnight so looks like I will be getting a taxi there and back with boths boys (hopefully just one if my mom will watch them)

OP posts:
starlover · 21/01/2006 22:55

tamba... where are you?
it's a long shot really but a mumsnetter might be near by!
