F*ck it, think my hole is infected (wisdom tooth)

arsing buggeration. Had 2 wisdom teeth out last sat and Ive been in quite a bit of pain, and still bleeding. spoke to the hospital yesterday, and they said it sounds like deep tissue bruising.

fair enough

woke up this morning with funny taste in my mouth, finally able to open my mouth wide enough to have a look and there is a whitish/yellowish lump in the hole, my ear and cheekbone are throbbing and I feel rotten.

its infected isnt it?

waiting for hospital to call me back, again.

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE SOLUTION AND GARGLE!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 28/01/2012 15:46

Have you tried swishing salt water around it?

(or is that an old wive's tale...)

I'm sure I was told to do that when I had one out.

OracleInaCoracle · 28/01/2012 15:50

Ive been gargling 2-4 times a day, with salt water and antiseptic mouthwash, but they didnt put a stitch in. Ive been very careful with oral hygiene (but my breath still pongs a bit)

Another vote for hydrogen peroxide. Those anaerobic bacteria lurking at the back of your mouth do not like a good dose of oxygen.

Dumbledoresgirl · 28/01/2012 16:11

Corsodyl mouthwash if you can bear it. Sympathies. I had a tooth out last year and had healing trouble with it, though I didn't get as bad as you sound.

OracleInaCoracle · 28/01/2012 16:17

Its so annoying, its taking such a long time. Dont have any hydrogen peroxide, but have been using corsodyl, as well as salt water. My mouth tastes horrible.

You have pericoronitis and need antibiotics. In the meantime add a large teaspoon of water to a cup of water as hot as you can stand it and let it pool in the areas for up to minute, then spit and repeat. Do this every three hours.

Avoid all bitty foods like toast or museli and get thee to a dentist. Avoid aspirin and alcohol take something like Nurofen. You will probably be given Metronidazole and under NO circumstances drink alcohol because you WILL be very, very sick and make sure you finish the course.

Hope you are ok OP.

redrubyshoes · 28/01/2012 16:18

teaspoon of SALT. Dagnamit. NOT water. Obviously. Blush

OracleInaCoracle · 28/01/2012 16:21

thank you RedRuby (I think I've "spoken" to you about this before) I can't take ibuprofen, but I do have some impressive painkillers.

Its never bloody simple.

Go and get Peroxyl mouthwash - is hydrogen peroxide based and will kill (by oxidising) the bacteria and make you all better.

bonzo77 · 28/01/2012 16:35

its probably not going to settle without professional treatment. In the mean time peroxyl or hot salt water or corsadyl plus ibuprofen (if you can take it) 3x a day and paracetamol 4x a day.

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 28/01/2012 16:36

Sounds like dry socket, effing hurts, when I had it I had the holes stuffed with some weird brown stuff. I would go to hosp if it continues, I ignored and it made me quite ill.

perplexedpirate · 28/01/2012 16:39

I'd ended in casualty after my wisdom teeth were taken out and needed 5 different tablets to sort me out . You need antibiotics. Quick smart.
Poor you. Sad

AKissIsNotAContract · 28/01/2012 16:43

Don't bother with corsodyl, it's not very good on anaerobic bacteria and it will stain the rest of your teeth brown. Is there an emergency dentist you can go to?

ILoveGreggsSausageRolls · 28/01/2012 16:45

I'm sorry but your title made me laugh v childish

I really do think you need antibiotics. Otherwise it could get more painful.

I do feel for you, I remember having my wisdom teeth out and looking like a hamster . I was like you, it got worse before it got better.

chipmunksex · 28/01/2012 16:50

I clicked on this thinking you meant a different hole. Grin Shock

Sounds to me like antibiotics are called for and your hefty painkillers, I hope you feel better soon; dental pain is the pits.

crazynanna · 28/01/2012 16:54

Oh my Lord I have had a dry socket

£ labours and one c section...I can hand on heart say it was the most painful thing I have ever ever experienced in my whole entire life.

Jesus God

crazynanna · 28/01/2012 16:55

That was meant to say 3 labours...not £ labours Blush

Lissie go to A&e, I was so sick from swallowing the manky stuff that was coming off my gums, I had a raging temperature and felt like I was going to pass out, if your getting worse then go!

OracleInaCoracle · 28/01/2012 18:16

Im going to ring them again now, and pop down tomorrow. I dont feel ill enough for A&E, just taken some more painkillers and am wearing a hat and scarf to keep my ear and mouth covered. however, I do have the most horrendous taste in my mouth and all my other teeth feel a bit funny.

OP posts:
PurpleWithaBlueBun · 28/01/2012 18:24

It affects the jaw bone my dentist said

chipmunksex · 28/01/2012 18:31

Let us know how you get on.

I really think you need to see someone tonight and get started on some antibiotics.

EverSchlong · 28/01/2012 19:36

Have you been 'holding' mouthwash/salt water over the hole? When mine was infected, I had to do hot salty water, hold a mouthful over the hole for 3 mins, 3 times a day. To make it go properly in the right place, I would lie on my side for three mins.
