Amateurs only - no marathon types welcome.

I intend to do a mile every couple of days I used to do this ages ago and finally need to get back to it.

Any takers? I am not a runner But cant be arsed to do organised excercise....

I guess that's my totally unsporty side coming out - I was never one for sports teams either. I really hate wearing proper sports kit too when I'm out. I feel such a fraud I usually wear an old t shirt and trousers and comfortable flat shoes - change in to my work clothes at work. I know I should wear the running shoes my ds nagged me into buying, but I find them so utterly displeasing to the eye. I do wear them for longer runs, but not for a 15 - 20 miniute jog.

codswallop · 20/11/2003 16:11

Tigermoth - that sounds hilarious!! Think you def should wear trainers....

My way of motivating myself is that I hate that guilty feeling of not doing it and it only takes 15 mins! I would esily wate that on the tv or Mn

YOU FEEL; SO GREAT AFTERWARDS..and can go to bedwith a clear conscience

Saying htat dh has to go out tonight and I had planned to go

how's everyone doing?

twink, I'm sure you've done lots - you are so motivated, I really admire you (I have been a bit worried that you think I am poo pooing the idea of anyone having running partners - hope it hasn't killed this thread, and I wanted to say I am enjoying having virtual running partners)

I have run to work twice this week so haven't made my target. I might drag myself out at the weekend.

codswallop · 28/11/2003 14:19

No tbeen since?monday if that...dh away an late back form work and the rain...Must go tonight

Blushing now

Actually I have been a few times this week but as no-one else had mentioned it I didn't want to stand out !

Not at all Tigermoth, I think you are right when you say it's nice to do your own thing, be alone with your own thoughts, stop when you want etc.

Sometimes though I find it too easy to kid myself that I'm due a break and if I'm with one of the others we tend to keep each other going. It's also a good chance for a natter without the kids in our case.

Also, (I suspect I'll be chucked out of the club for admitting this) but I've entered a race so I'll be going at least 3 times a week from now on. I'll get me coat ...

Twink · 01/12/2003 18:13

You've gone very quiet over here; stop composing rhapsodies & get out there !

codswallop · 01/12/2003 18:39

No have been crap - dh late back from Brum tonight and raining all the w/e

will go

hana · 01/12/2003 18:57

god no haven't run for a couple of weeks. swimming tonight tho - it doesn't count I know, but too dark and miserable for a run...

tigermoth · 02/12/2003 16:43

ran on monday, but I'm on a course so won't be back in work till Thurs. Weather permitting I'll be out then.

HOw do you all feel about running in the rain? I don't mind a little drizzle (it's actually quite nice in a cooling sort of way). I do get worried about slipping on wet leaves, though.

tigermoth · 02/12/2003 16:49

ps - I find the best way to increase my motivation is to be very tolerant and kind with myself. If I miss a couple of weeks I just put it behind me. Never worry about it. That's why I am no athlete, but at least I never quite give up.

codswallop · 02/12/2003 18:49

dh late back from London tonight.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

OP posts:
Twink · 02/12/2003 22:34

If it's any consolation it was quite chilly out there tonight ! Does your dh do golf or football or similar ? If he does you could maybe threaten to make him forfeit a session so you can run (although I suspect he probably doesn't want to be late home anymore than you want him to be)

Anyway, Coddy's got a decent excuse, what about the rest of you ??? From an encouraging start this thread seems to have declined into a trio (I'm sure ks would have a more correct term).

Northerner, Hana, Sonnet, MO2 where are you ? Twinkie has a permanent passout at the moment although it would be nice to see her here.

Tigermoth, I find running in the rain ok once I finally stop prevaricating and get out there; I need to wear a hat to be able to see, but apart from that I find it no worse than running in the dry, sometimes even better as I don't get so hot.

Leaves are becoming less of a problem here now but I WON'T run on ice.

tigermoth · 03/12/2003 17:03

agree, twink. I draw the line at ice.
